It'll be interesting to see what the staff does if Anderson and Spears come on board. They seem to be very similar players. Do they both grow into interior d-linemen or does one of them stay on the outside?

IMO Spears is without question a DT not a SDE whereas Anderson is a SDE who may outgrow the position but as of now he's a SDE.

Recruiting Wrap: Notre Dame, Tennessee and South Carolina are among the schools heavily in the mix for Anderson.

Performance: Anderson has dropped some weight since finishing his junior season and it's already paying major dividends as he looked much quicker and agile while working through drills. Ranked as a defensive tackle, it's looking more like Anderson could play end as well. That type of versatility is while colleges with different types of defensive fronts like his skillset and will continue to pursue him.

Rivals ranks him as a DT while 247 ranks him as a SDE. Regardless, he does seem to offer some position flexibility.

Not really athletic enough to really be an edge rusher, I think he ends up inside. Is really stout and sheds blocks well, would probably be a great 5-Technique in a 3-4.

What is an edge rusher? A situational player who only plays on 3rd downs or obvious passing situations? Because if that's what you are explaining, I totally agree. He's the prototype every down SDE, that will be able to play all 3 downs. Something we haven't had a long time. Though I do think Kareem is going to get there.

Yep. He looks like what we lost in Rochelle

I'd like more length at SDE but who moves like a "WDE" when in pass rushing. Someone longer than Rochell and Anderson. Bill Norton, Justin Eboigbe looks to have much more burst and a bit longer, JJ Weaver out of Louisville will be a 6-6/270 monster someday. Dontay Hunter out of Ohio is a tweener DE that I like too.

All that said, I think Anderson is Issac Rochell with better hands. He gets off blocks easily with either slick hands or straight power. He slips blocks with good flexibility. I see him inside with faster guys outside. Was really hoping him and Spears would come in as no brainer SDE's but with the offer of Norton and Eboigbe plus them following MI's 6-7 Berghorst it seems like they are targeting a 2019 version of Devin O'Rourke.

I hope Anderson gets on board in a hurry. I think he and Lacey would get to work and Stepp up the recruiting for #FightClub19

I disagree to an extent. I thought Jay Hayes had a strong year as a SDE. I think this kid is a more athletic version.

I think Jay Hayes had a really good year in certain aspects but clearly provided very little pass rush. So much so that he starting lose more and more snaps to Kareem.

Same goes for Isaac R. The last SDE we had that was an effective 3 down player was Tuitt.

The other thing which hasn't been touched upon regarding SDE & WDE. NOM didn't show up for Junior Day at the listed 227. Where's he gonna end up weight wise?

Where are they gonna stick Brandon Smith when reality hits and he's a DE?

There's so many variables in the 2019 line that they need to work out and the first thing is to figure out who's going inside and how many they are going to take because right now it appears they have the pick of the litter and not enough spots.

It thrills me to type that for once!

They can't get them all, but they'll get all the 4*'s they can take... and maybe a 5*

I've been convinced that DT recruiting would be fixed with the '19 class for a bout a year, same as I awarded ND the Joe Moore Award and the O'Line U title 2 years ago.

There's no stopping this train, the only question is who will be the passengers when it gets to the station.

I think we place way too much importance on the weight of Juniors and seniors, when projecting positions. A majority of these athletes are not on the right nutrition plans or effective workout plans. And some of the most advanced are already fairly close to maxed out. I still remember when D. Hayes was going to be 275+ SDE. Another example would be Khalid Kareem would has dropped 20 lbs. since his freshman year. It works both ways.

There is always a good amount of 4 stars it just getting the top ones here. We had a very well rounded class this year. I don't believe we'll sign a 5. But i believe we have a chance to sign some good players as long as we win 10-11 games again. We really need some one to jump out front and become a top recruiter.

I always thought Rochell was a highly underrated player for his time at ND but remember he was huge even for a SDE. We needed him to play there under BVG because our D-line overall was total ass against the run and we needed him as one of our better run defenders to protect the edge. He had 4.5 CAREER sacks despite being a 4 year player 3 of which he started.

I understand the scheme differences between a WDE and SDE, but if you can't get any edge rush threat out of your SDE it is a serious negative. Anderson looks like a good prospect but I see no explosiveness off the line that will make a good D1 tackle worry about a speed rush around the end. I think he plays inside assuming he can put on good weight, and I believe he projects better as a 5-Technique more than any other position. Regardless I would be thrilled if we land him

Bottom line. Kid has offers from Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State, Clemson, Penn State, and ND. That’s 6 out of the top 10 recruiting schools. Big time blue bloods. Kid has his academics in order. He’s a take. No getting cute on this one. And he’ll be a hell of a player for us if we get him.

Man I remember sophomore Rochelle destroying Andrus Peat and thinking he'd be a plus player for years. I feel terrible for those lost years of S&C for some of these guys.

Almost 2 months without an update...

Kinda freaked out when I saw a Foggy for him just now but upon further review it appears the Vols guy gave up his UT CB and couldn't bring himself to check the ND box.

I'll believe it when I see a picture of him on campus, after he's committed and the ink has dried.

He's the type of player I get super excited about and then he chooses another team in the final few weeks of recruiting.

This has nothing to do with his character

I've also had an odd feeling regarding him as the group of ND leans have become more defined. He feels like a guy who could get bumped from his spot as ND's SDE of this class by a longer athlete which they are recruiting. Does he then slide inside?

Most important question... Is this what he wants? How does he feel about the change in the class make up from when he and Lacey were the leaders of the projected class? He could be the jewel of a lot of P5 DL recruiting classes.

We'll see. I hope he's part of the class.
