It's based off pro-potential and not impact this coming year. Freshman and sophomore transfers will grade out higher in 247's eyes than grad transfers 100 times out of 100 because of this. For example, Beaux Collins vs Merriweather. We know this year that Beaux Collins will probably start and probably get somewhere between 500-750 yards receiving which makes him very good for ND but probably a late round draft pick or UFA. Merriweather has 2 years to put it together and because of his potential has the higher ranking. It's a flawed methodology but that's the rationale. Further with Leonard vs Moore. If you're looking at 2024, Leonard is clearly the guy you want, but through 2025 or 2026, Moore's potential is way higher.
Many believe Leonard has first round potential, so his potential is very high with a single year remaining.

What is Dante Moore's ceiling for the following 3 years? Higher than first round? Again, it's not just flawed, it's bad.

Holden Staes, while a very good player, should not be rated above Leonard, no matter how many years he has remaining. Very strange system. They need more than a single number. They need a value related to current play and then perhaps something that represents upside and years remaining. Right now, their system just looks ridiculous.

I think they are factoring in you get Moore for 2 maybe 3 more years. As a coach that is valuable. So maybe their algorithm would be something like:

Talent + Potential + remaining years in school = grade.

Not saying its a good algorithm, but its probably the one they use... or maybe these kids have promised some kickback from their NIL deals if 24/7 ranks them higher.

Thanks 23, I know their rationale.
I just have serious doubts he'll get close to meeting that potential based on what i witnessed from Merriweather in game. It wasn't just the drops, which were numerous, it was the lack of effort on plays where the ball was designed to go to him.

That lack of fight was rare from a player at that level, which made it hard to fathom how he was still getting pt. Lack of healthy bodies dictated that....

Top 3 QB in his class that was stacked with QBs! Absolutely it would be 1st Rd the class had Manning, Moore, Iamaleava, Nelson, Arnold and Chiles.

Agreed. They definitely weigh their own high school rating too heavily in this and disregard on-field performance to an extent.

I understand weighted values in terms of value over time but projected potential vs realized potential over different time frames is impossible to compare accurately. They should take years remaining/time out of it because you aren't signing them to multi-year contracts. At best you are recruiting these guys for a year before re-recruiting them. There shouldn't be a time element related to it.

There should be current value + upside value. Then a column to show years of eligibility remaining.

Ha ha, perhaps I wasn't clear. I get that he has 1st round tools but he does not have 1st round production so far. It's inaccurate for him to carry a higher grade in the portal than some more established, high-end QBs.

247sports has a flawed ranking system and it shows. What they show just for NDs players going in and out is bad. Imagine that across all players entering the portal.

He looked great in his 1st 3 games and so-so in the others but in their rating system it weighs future potential/tools/measurables/talent in relation to the NFL Draft. His grade is higher simply because inbthose metrics its higher than anybody else except for maybe Chiles in the portal.
