I think it's important to remember that JJB came in as a good pass rusher but was a detriment in run support at OSU. He got a lot better here. Oben will have less of a learning curve in that regard.

While JJB deserves a ton of credit making necessary adjustments, I think Al Washington did a terrific job with the DL this year. I was quite skeptical of him after his first year, but he proved me wrong in 2023.

As awesome as the defense was last year. We need to get back to developing pass rushers again. I think Oben will be a upgrade. But even he is not the type of pass rusher we've had in the very recent past.

Hopefully that comes from Burnham, Traore, etc. Big off-season for Washington, IMO.
Bigger issue with pass rushing is on the other side, IMO. Foskey —> Botelho was a big downgrade. Botelho isn’t really built for that. Traore looks like a natural.

ND doesn’t like stacking announcememnts to maximize PR exposure.. I bet it’s in the next few days.

I think the inverse is true also they will space out the Alt, Bertrand etc decisions too

ND hasn't had a rusher who can execute a move like this since Julian Okwara

Was looking at 247s transfer ratings the other day. Some other notable grades:
  • Dante Moore 95
  • Holden Staes 93
  • Riley Leonard 92
  • Tobias Merriweather 92
  • Rico Flores 91
  • Braylon James 90
  • Kris Mitchell 89
  • Chris Tyree 89
  • Jordan Clark 89
  • NaNa Osafo-Mensah 88
  • Zeke Correll 88
  • Beaux Collins 88
  • Joey Tanona 88
Some of these are confusing to me.

It's based off pro-potential and not impact this coming year. Freshman and sophomore transfers will grade out higher in 247's eyes than grad transfers 100 times out of 100 because of this. For example, Beaux Collins vs Merriweather. We know this year that Beaux Collins will probably start and probably get somewhere between 500-750 yards receiving which makes him very good for ND but probably a late round draft pick or UFA. Merriweather has 2 years to put it together and because of his potential has the higher ranking. It's a flawed methodology but that's the rationale. Further with Leonard vs Moore. If you're looking at 2024, Leonard is clearly the guy you want, but through 2025 or 2026, Moore's potential is way higher.

They seem to overvalue HS ratings.
