Looks Skrong in the video. Nice pickup by the staff, should be a nice fit at ND. Welcome aboard.

I like this pickup but I just don't see a SDE, IMO his future is at DT were his size and skillset will be better utilized.

Last week we had several people lamenting our recruiting and now they’re coming in droves.

I know, right. Same thing every cycle. There is a period of time each spring where ND fans start freaking out about our lack of verbal commitments. Then we go on a run. Apparently the staff isn’t just super lazy, lol.

I still stand by my opinions with a few recruitments this cycle. But it has been a great last few days and I'll give credit where credit is due.

BGI podcast mentioned Cross committing at the SDE spot could have some filling up pressure for other recruits. Driskell mentioned Marcus Hicks, Rodas Johnson, and Adam Berghorst as 3 guys the staff is really high on, but there could only be 1 SDE spot left so it could be first come, first serve. I really hope Rodas Johnson pops to ND after his Penn State spring game visit. Cross was a great, great first step to add to the DE spot.

Good for this kid. Hope he exceeds his own expectations and gets it all done.

That doesn't make sense though. ND needs ends, and I'd argue that they need strongside ends more. The last 2 classes, ND took 1 DROP and 1 SDE in Wardlow and Justin Ade. I think NaNa can be a SDE but we're just robbing Peter to pay Paul at that point.

Basic math of it is 13 scholarship players with eligibility left on the roster for the 2019 season. Add 6 DLineman in the class of 2019 and you have 19 guys with the possibility of 3-4 defection between now and September of 2019. The 6 guys in the class that people have said on the board is...

2 DT
Hunter Spears
Jacob Lacey

2 SDE
Howard Cross
(Rodas Johnson, Marcus Hicks, Adam Berghorst, Ty Robinson, etc.)

2 WDE
(Nana Osafo-Mensah, Zach Harrison, Joseph Wete, Joshua Pakola, Laiatu Latu, Beau Robbins, etc.)

I think originally it was planned to be 7 but someone mentioned earlier on the boards that instead of 3 DT and 4 DE’s it would be just 6 total guys with 2 DT. So I hope they get Rodas Johnson and then just spend the rest of their time focusing on WDE which is a huge huge priority. Maybe the biggest in this class.

My vote for sleeper commit of this class. I honestly forgot about him until I saw this.

Gatorade player of the year doesn’t mean it will translate to Notre Dame but that’s an honor

Wouldn't disagree with this. I think he's going to surprise some folks. Definitely looks like he's going to be moved inside to 3T.

It will be interesting. Do we really want him sitting behind JayAde though if he's that good? Or in the mix with Justin.

He's a swing DL. I think you could line him up at a few different spots. And with the variety of fronts that we run, that'll be useful. He's probably an ideal 3T that will be able to play some 4/5.

Also, natural progression of building out a top tier depth chart is you're going to have good players developing and waiting their turn. The ideal being you are recruiting each position at a high level so there shouldn't be a need to play him out of position.

Justin is at Drop and looks like he will be for the foreseeable future. So when he plays some outside, he'd be in the mix with Ade/Foskey?.

I thought Justin was was popping in for Kareem when he did get PT. I know on Rivals they changed him from Drop to SDE. Thought I also heard or read something that they saw Justin probably growing into the SDE spot quickly? I could have confused him someone else.

Might be thinking of Jahmir Jones.

Edit: Who knows why Rivals changed it but the official depth chart that ND released before USC had Justin A as a Drop behind Hayes.

I agree. Kid is of average explosiveness on the edge but he's super physical. He's the kind of guy you play at DE against the Stanfords of the world, but will probably play a lot of minutes at 3-Tech, particularly on passing downs.

I think it might have been a Rivals article or PC that I was thinking about (where someone said they expect him to grow quickly into a SDE). Only so much stock you can put into the different depth charts... But like I said, I could have easily confused him with another as whatever it was, it was back when he got PT I think in September. I still could have sworn that he went in for Kareem. That's what is driving me nuts.
