Did you watch the first play? 2nd or 3rd? 3rd play shows incredibly cutting ability, he juked out 3-4 guys in a row. Play at 2:46 shouldn't happen. There were a number of plays that show very good athleticism/acceleration.

Some RB highlights show a guy just blow through the hole but Kyren was rarely working with a clean hole. He was slicing through congestion to make these plays.

I'll say it again, I love his film and I think he'll be s a serious player for us. I don't blow smoke usually, I'll say when I think someone is a good safety option or perhaps just a contributor down the road. I think Kyren can make plays and can potentially be a #1 option for us on offense.

5'10" means he'll one day measure 5'9" if he got to the NFL combine. And he's listed at 187 on his HUDL, which is where I watched the film. So if it's 200 elsewhere, maybe he put on ~15 pounds. Would that even be a good thing since he's not explosive? IDK.

Greg Bryant was faster, more agile, and way stronger. There was no soggy body on GB, RIP.

Disagree. You want to be big and fast. But if you can't have both, you need to be one of them. I don't think he's either.

His own home state doesn't, and about 100 other colleges. I'll not harp on him anymore.

But I'll be OK if ND passes on him, or vice versa. I'll take the chances with the field and 9 months to go til signing day.

I'm not sure anyone is saying we should take Kyren and shutdown RB recruiting. He's going to be 1 of 2 RB's in this class. So we can take Kyren and then have our chances with the field. Definitely puts ND in a more favorable position to take Kyren early.

Also, I don't think he's elite in any area but he's good in a lot of areas. He made Jamie U's 5 favorite players from that loaded Junior Day back in January. Article below.

I wonder how big the guy on the left was when he got to ND? 4300 yards later he was 5-10/203.

KW is not too small and he's still growing. He'll be 1/2 of a very good RB haul.

He looks really darn good to me--like a pure RB with good speed that can also catch.

We can debate a lot of it and people break down film differently. I see legit short area quickness from a well built kid. I do see a different skill set and I look forward to him being the FIRST back in this year's class.

I am not as apprehensive as Koonja seems to be, but I would rather him be a 2nd back. I just didn't see the breakaway speed/separation that I saw with other backs. I am also biased, I like taller guys who can run people over if need be. I just didn't see that.

EDIT

I watched his JR film again, and while there was more contact then I remember, and I was decently impressed, I still think he is a good 2nd back. Could be a good Lightning if we fine a Thunder to go with him. Super slippery but I am not seeing that top end gear

IMO this kid was born to be on a football field. He’s the type of guy you take and at a minimum he pulls a Crawford and strips a ball at the 1 yard line and recovers it. I like his film at rb,wr, dB. I kinda see a little bit of golden Tate in him like NDC. Do want

Freebie from ISD
https://irishsportsdaily.com/s/6312/top-notre-dame-rb-target-kyren-williams-locks-in-official-visit

2019 St. Vianney (Mo.) running back Kyren Williams* released his Top 8 on Sunday afternoon of Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, Nebraska, Notre Dame and Stanford.

Williams visited Notre Dame in January for Junior Day and was blown away with what he saw, and the four-star prospect tells ISD the Irish will host him on June 15th for an official visit.

Notre Dame will also host offensive lineman Zeke Correll*, offensive lineman Saleem Wormley*, defensive end Aeneas DiCosmo* and linebacker Spencer Lytle* the same weekend.

Missouri will also get to impress Williams as the Tigers will get his first official visit on June 1st.

Williams was in Ann Arbor a few weeks ago and will return for his official visit to Michigan on June 22nd.

While academics are the driving factor in his recruiting, Notre Dame running backs coach Autry Denson had made a powerful connection with Williams and one that could be a tipping point later in the process.

“When we were at Junior Day, we were sitting in the running backs room, and he was very motivational,” Williams recalled. “Even my dad said he was ready to play after Coach Denson was done speaking.

“Our relationship is getting stronger. We talk on a daily basis, and he always sends a motivational quote or Bible verse every morning. We talk on the phone probably every week or every other week.”

Look for Williams to lock in a decision date in the near future, but the actual commitment might not come for a few months.

I'll bite my tongue.

We should recruit him solely because Harbaugh/UM want him, and there's nothing better than Wolverine tears.

In all seriousness, I think he's a quality APB.

I don’t see him as a game changer, but he reminds me of Theo Riddick. 4.65 speed, good cuts, tough to bring down, understands routes and has good hands. He won’t be a star but if he can acclimate to the college game he could contribute to this offense, moreso than 40 career catches/rushes

I like this kid a lot. Smart to come play behind this OL.. How are more top rated 5 star RBs that qualify not sold on what this line will do for them?!

Supposedly Zeke was going to announce on Wednesday until some local Cincy guy let it slip on twittersphere and forced him to announce.

Was this supposed to be a coordinated string of announcements again. Wednesday - Corell, Thursday - Williams, Friday ?

Because in BKs 8 seasons, we’ve had only 2 RBs drafted, and in hindsight, they are receiving backs. Whereas some schools, like Georgia, Alabama, LSU etc. are just pumping them out like an assembly line year after year. Top 5 RBs care about winning championships and going to the NFL as an early round draft pick.

The great backs either end up in the ACC or SEC, with a few sprinkled in the PAC-12 and Big Ten. ND needs to be able to show top RB recruits that they can guarantee success, as winners and as highly sought after NFL prospects.

History is against us.

I see a bit of Tate and a bit of Theo. And whoever said Theo wasn't a gamechanger is off their rocker. He had damn near elite cutting ability. He was a hard runner who couldn't run off the 65 yarders but he could pick up chunks of yards and he was dynamic receiver as well. We're not undefeated going into the championship game without Theo.

That's what I hope we are getting in Kyren, he looks like he can weave through traffic. He sees the field unfolding and I really like that.

Since the 2010 recruiting class (last 9 classes), the RB’s above .9500 rating

Notre Dame
.9768 Greg Bryant
.9564 Dexter Williams

Georgia

.9921 Keith Marshall
.9672 Todd Gurley
.9905 Sony Michel
.9846 Nick Chubb
.9838 D’Andre Swift

.9670 Ronnie Clark
.9918 Bo Scarbrough

Ohio State

.9694 Dontre Wilson

It’s amazing to see what kind of recruiting dominance these schools have put on display for this position group. They are kicking the crap out of ND in RB talent. To your point on the NFL, I think talent breeds NFL running backs and if you don’t have much then it’s hard to turn that into NFL draft picks. Nice Chubb, for example, was an NFL draft pick wherever he played his college football. He’s just too big, too talented to not make it there. I think they have good RB coaches at Georgia, but I don’t think they are soooo much better than everyone in the country that they will produce NFL RB’s no matter what. ND just needs to be able to get one or two headline dudes down the road who produce and end up being high draft picks for prospects to be able to check off the NFL checklist in ND’s favor. When you’re in a room full of top 100 recruits, the NFL talent will rise to the top and start which is why Bama’s starting RB are almost always NFL draft candidates. Same with Ohio State and Georgia. ND has a room with a QB, WR, and 2 3* RB’s and one top talent who hasn’t panned out, yet...

Josh Adams I’m sure went a long way to helping our reputation with RBs as well as Prosise. Now if Jones and/or Williams can break out we might see that RB recruiting get better.

Also, Kyren is a lot like Theo, came with little fanfare because of Wood but was the first one to play and more productive and a pro player. Here’s hoping Kyren becomes Riddick.
