Visited yesterday with Tyrone Sampson and Davontae Dobbs and other Detroit area guys. Coaches Alexander and Lyght with the immediate follows.

Ran a 4.41 / 40 at the Best of the Midwest Combine in Indy yesterday. Very good all around film for a Soph competing in Div I Michigan / Detroit Metro football. Could be a WR or a very fast FS prospect or maybe even SS if he keeps eating. His film shows the ability to play at the LOS and get after it.

Soph Stats:

10 G ... 25 rec ... 460 yds ... 6 TD ... 1 KR-TD ... 13 Tkl ... 2 INT

His stats from the Opening-Chicago:

6-1, 184lbs

4.64 / 40

4.09 / Shtl

37.5 PB

31.0 Vert

Score = 102.57

Almost great shuttle time. Wish he was 6-2 like he claimed. Vert is poor compared to shuttle. 40 is good enough for right now. Definitely a 4.5 something guy in college.

ND should offer him right now and let Kalon and Ovie work on him everyday.

Seems odd he ran a 4.41 40 in Indy and then a month later runs a 4.64 at Chicago opening? 4.41 not looking accurate.

Wiltfong (and Loy) with immediate CB's.

For Wiltfong to do that while he's covering an event in Florida (ND's loss of Houston Griffith to FSU) means he was going to do it if ND offered... which also means he got the vibe from Barnett that if ND offered they'd be the clear leader. <strike>OSU has already offered and Wiltfong didn't give them the CB.</strike> Hopefully he's on top of this like i'm guessing. Now if his teammate Mr. Dobbs just followed his lead.

Lol.

He's not going Sparty. Especially not after they go under .500 again. That guy is an MSU homer.

Agreed. Dantonio has bought himself the benefit of the doubt, but I'd be interested to see what happens if they only win 3-4 games this year. Especially with so much turmoil with the players. I feel like that has lost him some of that goodwill.

Saw a rumor that he reached out to ND and we told him we didn’t have room. He would be our highest rated commit on 247.

Where was the rumor? Also if that is true, holy crap! This is where ND is now. Turning away top talent.

Well it's because they're over the limit by a few bodies already. I'm sure if he was 2020 they'd say "get to campus!".

I get that but something else must be there to reject him like ND wasn't that high on him, attitude issues. Maybe it is like a Cam'Ron Kelly situation. Kelly committed too early and reached out after he knew it was a bad call. Seems like the staff wants guys who are all in.

So he reached out after the team went 12-0, or close to it? As much as I'd like to have a guy with that size and offer list, I'm not a huge fan of guys knocking on the door just because of team success. That never really works out at Notre Dame, I don't think they're attending the school for the right reasons, and it is extremely shallow minded to attend a school based off record.

If he was truly interested in Notre Dame, I think he would've committed before the season started or at least expressed interest before or shortly after the season started.

Notre Dame seems to be more successful when they recruit guys that fit what they are trying to do. You get guys like Tranquill, Love, Gilman, and others when they stick to recruiting kids that can meet the Notre Dame standard. I'm not saying that Julian Barnett wouldn't be successful at Notre Dame, but the timing of his sudden interest in Notre Dame is a red flag to me.

I agree. Cam'ron Kelly was similar and they also said no thanks.

I don't think we should be turning away talent, especially local talent. Truthfully, this class is incredibly average. Not a lot of reaches or bad prospects but most of the guys being recruited as the elite athletes on par with what Bama and Georgia bring in.

Especially at WR, there is a dearth of proven playmakers on the roster right now.

While I agree with this, bringing in more receivers, elite or not, isn't going to fix this problem. It is just going to increase the number of unproven playmakers. The talent/skill is there, they just need to get on the field to showcase it; Boykin, Claypool, and Finke being what they are isn't helping the cause.

I agree with this. I have a bad feeling we're going to realize the talent gap come December 29th and hopefully the game after that.

I know we always think we're recruiting at a high level because we kind of only pay attention to our class, but there's a level above ours and we're about to feel it IMO.

To be fair, only OSU, Bama, Georgia, Clemson, are there (I'm probably missing a school or two). Then Michigan/USC/FSU/Auburn are right behind them.

We're a slight notch below the 2nd tier, but not very far at all. And clearly close enough to that second tier that the difference is negligible since we beat 3 of them this year.
