Interesting visit. Maryland LAX commit will visit for Navy. Seen the word "phenom" thrown around a lot with him in LAX.

Dude looks the part in his highlights. I guess he's rated as such because they figure he will play LAX in college.

Jr stats:

Off: 10 G ... 27 rec ... 473 yds ... 5 TD ... 39 car ... 198 yds ... 1 TD ... 1 KOR-TD

Def: 10 G ... 30 Tkl ... 2.0 TFL ... 3 Int ... 111 ret yds ... 2 FF ... 1 FR-TD

Yeah he's really good, plays for one of the top clubs around here and Bullis is a powerhouse. Considered a top 10 recruit for lacrosse.

A lot of players recently forgoing lacrosse for football after getting late offers... Greg Pyke for Georgia; Sam Hubbard for Ohio State & Jack Coan for Wisconsin were both ND lacrosse commits at one point; lots of other examples.

Shades of Zbikowski.

The only LaCrosse in Zibby's life was Old Style... brewed in God's Country with sparkling pure Wisconsin spring water by G Heileman Brewing... LaCrosse, Wisconsin.

Looks like a heckuva player to me. Why is he only a 3 star?

Same reason Sam Hubbard was a 2:s: before he started getting seriously looked at for football. The recruiting services don't actually spend time evaluating players that don't have major offers or show out at camps... a lot of "rankings" is simply group think to get on the radar. And then once you're on the radar, then they take the time to be a bit more accurate (but even then there are serious flaws).

Lax,

I've seen Shaw described as a phenom and a freakish athlete on more than one occasion. Does he really stick out that much on a lacrosse field when looking at his lax films?

Two questions:

1) Do you think we will offer?
2) If we offer, do we have a shot?

Well, I haven't seen him play live. I do have a friend who coaches for one the premier clubs out here and he said that's he's pretty much always the best athlete on the field. The best defender on my team plays for one of those clubs and is only a year younger than him so I'm going to ask him this weekend if he's played against him and if so what he thought.

The honest answer watching highlights is "no"... he doesn't really jump off the screen as some freak athlete. He's obviously faster than pretty much everyone, but he doesn't display tons of "shake" nor does he look particularly big in his highlights. I imagine the reason he's getting a lot of love for football now is that he's filled out some and people see he has oodles of potential. Same thing that happened with Sam Hubbard who legitimately packed on about 60 pounds between his junior year of HS and now. As Shaw gets older, I wouldn't be surprised if he starts destroying people with his athletic ability, but as a freshman/sophomore he definitely didn't look to be on a "different level" athletically than the older kids he was up against.

Lax, ditto with Coan. He was a good lax guy with tons of athletic ability. Some coaches I know said he really didn’t “pop” on the field. I’m intrigued here.

Former Syracuse LAX commit, Casey Rogers is heading to OSU most likely.

6-5, 250lb DE. Prep schooling an extra year in CT to get his football chops in order. His Dad is the coach at Old Farms and he was born in Columbus while his Dad was coaching LAX there.

His dad was my college coach. He runs the defense for SU lax. I had no idea his kid was a football recruit. Pretty cool.

He must really love the special family member to flip his commit to be closer to them... just doesn't love them enough to go to Maryland, UVA, VT, Rutgers, Penn St, Pitt, WVU... those schools closer than OSU. Garbage excuse.

I mean Ohio State is ~6 hours from Maryland whereas Wisconsin is 12+... it's more than twice as far driving.

With that being said, if it was truly a family-first thing about proximity to home he would've stuck with the Terps, so yeah it's fair to give it an eye roll.
