I would put Julian Love up there as well (3*). Freshman All-American.

45 tackles - 2 TFL - 3 PBU - 1 INT - 1 FF - 1 FR

Then if we are talking strictly freshman seasons then Aaron Lynch also I'd say.

Also Freshman All-American.

33 tackles - 2 PBU - 5.5 Sacks (led team) - 7 TFL (3rd of team) - 14 QB Hurries (most since it was tracked for Irish)

Good call on Lynch, kind of forgot that even happened, lol. That would certainly be in contention. I'd say Love is comfortably behind Jaylon, Lynch, and what we expect to be Hamilton.

Let's just say he's having a pretty good season so far and leave it at that. I'd hate to put a curse on him. lol

While he has the physical traits, his field awareness is something you rarely see in freshmen.

Smith was the bigger signing. He was a top-3 recruit. Bigger impact? Remains to be seen, but Hamilton on pace to take the mantle.

Jaylon's career was "stunted" by playing under one of the worst DC's in the country as far as his ND legacy is concerned, so it has to be graded on a curve. Love has arguably the best college career of any ND defensive player in the Kelly era, I'd posit that even Manti, Hayseed, and Jaylon weren't as dominant at their positions for as long as as Love.

Hamilton is playing like a future top 10 pick.

Jaylon gets 17 asterisks for having to play under BVG.

But yeah, Hamilton is special.

I probably would not play him against BG. Play the veterans and the young guys with question marks. That said, once again I confess I have no idea what I am talking about.

This has been a conversation about freshman seasons and Jaylon's freshman season was played under Bob Diaco.

Having finally had a chance to see the game via the tube his interception was pretty nice. You can see from the replays that he was a step ahead of the QB from the moment of the snap, he watches the intended receiver drift across and you can see the moment he thinks this fool is going to step into my trap...basically he has million year old snake like instincts.
I doubt he will keep up this production of interceptions because QBs will stop throwing anywhere near him.

QB’s will underestimate his speed, due to his size when the see him in person. They will watch him on film, but still not realize just how fast he is and test the waters anyway.

That is exactly why he will be a 1st round pick. I just hope the coaches can go out and find the best 76 inch Safeties they can find under a 4.6!

Not as easy to avoid him as a safety like it would be if he was a CB. With his length and range he can make up a lot of ground.

The combination of those 2 stats makes my head spin. The 1.6 yards per target suggests the bulk of his responsibilities have been in the flat. That makes sense as most of his highlights thus far have been blowing something up on a play meant to stretch the defense. But the 27% completion rate seems really low, as short passes and throws to backs or WRs in space seem to be easier to complete.

The fact that ND's DBs have been much better tackling than in coverage is concerning for the SC game. We need our DBs to compete at a much higher level than they have all year when the ball is in the air.

I think the stats are probably also skewed because a larger percent of Kyle's targets have came against NM and BG, while the other DBs have had a larger sample size of better qbs/wrs.

Still, impressive.

I missed that play (had to run home because the fiance said she smelled burning... it was melted plastic that got into the dishwasher...), but wow that's just a great play.
