Played at Princeton. According to their website, played every game the last two years. Ok. Can’t hurt

Kid should provide some nice depth and wouldn't be surprised if he plays a lot for us

At one time, I thought this guy might take the next step. I saw him play a few times in HS starting when he was a Soph at JSerra.

Led the Trinity League in sacks his Soph year at JSerra vs the best schedule in the country. Transferred to Bosco and broke the single season sack record and after just two years, was their all-time career sack leader. Finished as the Trinity League Career Sack leader. That's impressive.

Here's his Princeton Bio:

2022: Did not miss any games … Made 18 tackles, four for loss and two sacks ... Recorded a sack vs. Lehigh.

2021: Played in every game … Contributed 19 tackles and six sacks … Posted a sack vs. Penn …Had a sack vs. Harvard ... Dropped in five tackles at Brown ... Forced a fumble at Monmouth ... Recorded a sack vs. Stetson ... Snagged two sacks vs. Lehigh ...

2020: Season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

2019: made 10 tackles, 6 unassisted, with 2 tackles for a loss of 11 yards … had two sacks on the season for a loss of 11 yards.

Before Princeton:
St. John Bosco
– Bosco Season Sacks School Record (17.5) 2018 … Bosco Career Sacks School Record (32) 2017 and 2018 … Trinity League Career Sacks Record (42) 2016, 2017 and 2018 … team was nationally ranked #1 in 2017 and 2018 … Bosco Football Lineman of the Year 2018 … Bosco Scholar-Athlete of the Year 2019 … Pro Football Hall of Fame All-American World Bowl 2018 … CalHi Sports Football All-State 2017 and 2018 … ALL-CIF Football 2018 … Long Beach Gazette All-Area Football 2018 …All-Trinity League Football 2017 and 2018 … LA Times Football All-Star 2017 … LA Times Transfer of the Year 2017 … Valedictorian 2019 … Scholar-Athlete 2018 … Principal’s Honor Roll 2018 and 2019 … ranked 36th among all 2019 FCS recruits by HeroSports.com

JSerra Catholic – CIF Southern Section and Trinity League Sack Leader as a sophomore 2016 … JSerra Defensive Lineman of the Year 2016 … Scholar-Athlete 2016 … Dean’s List 2016

Personal – Son of Mike and Renee Aubrey … younger brother Ryan attends St. John Bosco and shot puts … grandfather and uncle played football at USC … plans on studying in the Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs

His HS ranking looks higher than some of the dudes that have been on scholarship the last 5 years.

Seeing how many of these Ivy League guys are transferring up for their 5th year, I wonder if more start trying to take redshirts. Could be a nice pipeline for roster depth for us.

There's no redshirting in the Ivy League... unless they've changed it.

They do get five years to play four, though, right? So if they don't see the field much as a freshman, they'd still have a fifth year?
Most of these recent guys would've sat out 2020, when the Ivies didn't play at all. So that gets them a 5th regardless. Not sure we can rely on that for much longer.

Unless they've changed it, you get 8 consecutive semesters to play 4.

A problem for a lot of ivy guys is that to stay at their school they need to be admitted to grad programs but that’s difficult if they are not academic high achievers compared to their non athlete peers (same issue Stanford has)

The NCAA rule is 5 years to play 4 seasons. Only playing 4 games their freshmen year might not allow them to play a 5th year in the Ivy League with its own rules, but it would allow them to use that season somewhere else. Considering the Ivy only plays 10 games, they could still participate in 40% of their games and save the extra season.

Will be curious to see if Ivy League freshman begin to take this route.

That's why I wonder if it will be more common. Now that there are so many examples of guys transferring up, more recruits might be interested in that path. Cooper Barkate last cycle said his plan was to redshirt (which he did by only playing 4 games this year), play three years, and if he was good enough, then transfer to a P5 school for his final year to try to get drafted. He had scholarship offers from P5 schools (including ND) and choose Harvard instead. Ivy coaches might be able to sell more kids on this exact path. And while not all of those guys will end up at ND, the more that do it, the more there will be depth guys looking for another good academic institution for that final year.

Fair, especially if the Ivy coaches see it as a way to recruit higher-level players (which, the smart ones may). I'm just thinking that basically everyone who was on an Ivy League roster in 2020 has an extra year of eligibility right now, and that won't always be the case.
Regardless, yes it's a good pipeline to develop for us. Chris Smith was a plus for sure.

Foyesade Oluokun could have used a 5th year in P5 to go from a late rounder out of Yale to a 1st-2nd rounder.

Cost him a ton of $ his first 4 years in ATL.

With the level of PWO players we've gotten this past cycle or two, does anybody really catch the vibe of how lazy BK and his staff actually are/were in recruiting? If this staff is talking dudes into walking on here, imagine what we've missed out on in years past. Just a rant, could be 100% wrong.

Man I've been saying this since Freeman joined and started bolstering recruiting. Even before Kelly left there was a marked improvement in the recruits we were looking at.

I mean when Kelly left there was tons of reports of kids like Bryce Young who grew up ND fans, and Kelly never even reached out to gauge interest. Kelly was fine sticking with the "RKGs" and coaching them up from there. Rather than do the leg work of recruiting the super talented kids who need a little convincing they're smart enough to handle ND.
