Agree. without an exception, he transfers now without a degree, sits for 20-21 season and has two years of eligibility...or he stays at ND and possibly sits behind Book for 20-21, gets his degree and still transfers with two years of eligibility.

Well he was essentially publicly humiliated for no reason by the coach, and is clearly not part of the plan going forward. Why would he stay?

A lot of people here and elsewhere wanted him to replace Book post Michigan.

I'm pretty bummed about this. I think he is more talented than Book so someone screwed this up. Either he didn't do what was necessary to show the staff he deserved to play or the staff didn't give him a fair shake.

You guys are acting like the exception isn’t guaranteed. He’s transferring FROM ND not TO ND. Might not even need to fill out the paperwork anymore.

The 2019 Spring Game performance by him was remarkably bad. After watching that it was tough to imagine him ever becoming a quality starter at ND. Incredible because his high school highlights were some of the best I've ever watched.

I think the fact he is leaving indicates that he wasn't 1 play away from being the starter and was likely being demoted to third team by Clark. If he was the firm #2, then it truly doesn't make sense unless there's something else taking place outside of the rank structure in the QB room.

BK basically said he has no shot because and that’s why we don’t see him more. As to the gameplan comment, Book is returning so that basically limits PJ to junk time until Book inevitably gets injured.

Spring game means nothing. There are countless examples of players that were amazing during the spring game and failed in real games and vice versa.

The US Army Bowl was the one that mad me nervous for him. He looked terrible in that game and his bad mechanics really came to light. He'd do well in an offense that ran him alot but any sort of nuanced passing game wouldn't suit him. His family always said that Phil was best when "Phil was allowed to be Phil" which basically means don't try coach his technique just let him be an athlete.

Deshone Kizer Spring Game 2015 is the best example. Completely different by the time Week 2 of that fall rolled around.

I personally feel really good about having Pyne and my HERO, Buchner coming in! Not going to lose sleep over this . I understand that one play away from losing Book, but unfortunately Phil showed NOTHING to be excited about imo (spring or limited game snaps)

No need. You just have to wait for Brendan Clark to get his masters after winning the 2023 Tony the Tiger Bowl with a 10-3 record.

Kelly also made bizarre comments that just put Jurkovec down, unnecessarily. There was no excuse for saying he was reading the wrong play cards, even if its true. Why go out of your way to embarrass your backup quarterback? I guess he was just trying to proactively avoid a QB controversy but it's just bad form and I'm sure Phil and his family were pissed about it. It's not like he gets a chance to defend himself, he isn't allowed to talk to the media.

There is a difference in, being confident in your starter that the backup isn't going to replace him and publicly humiliating him. Again, more insane hyperbole on this board.

If he transfers, he's not going to be a part of any teams plan next year. At least here he has a clear chance at the spot for 2021 with a loaded roster. Got to Pitt and sit then win 7 or 8 games for 1-2 years. Gross.
