Those three are mentioned because they are former recruiting coordinator (Elston), current RC (Polian) and DC Elko who is reshaping defense by targeting specific type players. More about the big picture and not individual position coaches. Lyght was a big influence on Wilkins.

It'll be a tough pull. He wants to stay home, but I have to imagine the way our LB's are playing, combined with the overall academic and athletic impact ND is having will sway him.

The other obstacle is that ND's '18 LB class is DEEP already, and even though Wilson is an elite prospect, he'll be behind because of his injury.

If he were to sign he would be the best of those LB's. And since the staff desperately wants another LB I guess they don't consider the class to be deep. Plus he doesn't play the same position as Lamb and Simon.

They don't need another LB, they're going after Wilson and Solomon because they think they're elite players at their positions. He would be going up against Ovie and Bauer presumably at the Buck position. I do think he's a better prospect than both, but the issue is that those two guys will be able to practice and develop while Wilson is rehabbing from his surgery well into the offseason. While Bauer and Ovie may not be the better players now, they'll be afforded time to develop and close the gap that Wilson won't have.

They most certainly do need another elite LB. It's widely known that besides Morgan, Martini and Coney, Elko and Lea are not crazy about the rest of the LB's on the roster. If they land Wilson with Lamb it would give them a pair of LB's that both Elko and Lea want for this defense. Guys like Ovie and Bauer will be nice depth players but they aren't difference makers.

Does that mean no current player on the roster next year, other then Coney is a player?

Or is someone like Jamir Jones an exception and a kid who is a player? Because again my understanding is the coaching staff is high on Jamir. And if Morgan went down this year Jamir would take over and not Coney or Martini.

I think the two players in question are White and Adams.

If they have to replace Morgan, Greer, Tranquill and White and Adams aren’t currently in the plans going forward ( could change) then they definitely need lb’s
