Committing today. Down to:

Clemson
Ohio St
UNC
Florida St

He should have thrown in SC too. All of those choices suck.

committed already

They are in 3A which in NC's silly system means they are Div. 5 out of 8 divisions.

He's 6-4 220/225. Most kids are gonna look way smaller. ;-) His HS is about 10 miles from Duke's campus so it can't be complete bumpkinville.

Other good news, there's a Catholic Church a block from his HS. Someone get a hold of RDU, he's nearby in Cary (I'm ashamed that I know that). Tell him to set up a satellite recruiting office at Holy Family and lets get on this.

First of all Hillsborough is full of granola crunching hippies so I tend to steer clear of that part of town - although Carrboro definitely takes the cake in that category. Second - Cary is the Containment Area for Relocated Yankees so I am not allowed in that neck of the woods anyway. Third - you only have to go five miles north or west of Durham to get to the boondocks - south and you are on UNC's campus - all of which are highly preferable to being near Dook.

I know nothing about local football. Never even met Greer's dad who works in town. But if I hear anything I will be sure to let y'all know.

Oh, and Fourth - if they are homers and not relo folk - the local juices would be off the charts. Not surprised to see UNC - I mean moving from Hillsborough to Hillsborough Street.

Agree with the sentiment re: death penalty for the cheating coddlers of illiterates. Unbelievable how fans just shake that off and act like it is no big deal. Their expectation is they will NOT be punished at all.

Huge news. Another difference maker at LB that we are still actively recruiting.

He's got an offer from Alabama and an offer from Stanford. That sounds like an ND guy.

I think long term he remains a LB. You're starting to see a profile with Lamb and Wilson as to what Elko and Lea want at the LB position. Long, rangy and athletic.

Ovie moves to WDE before Wilson, IMO.

Justin A and Ovie as your DE class. Hopefully a legit WDE comes into play as we win.

Yeah, that seems like a good combination. Probably like their women hot, mute, and with big tits.

I'm starting to believe I'll wake up on X-mas and Bauer, Holifield, Wilson and McGrone will all be under the tree just like I asked Santa for a year ago. What the hell, someone call Channing Tindall and Teradja Mitchell and get them on campus too.

All the LB's!

God I would love for ND to land Payton. One of my favorites in the class and thought at one time that ND would have a decent chance to get him and Dax.

Figure this might be a tough pull trying to get him out of the Chapel Hill Area.

An update on Wilson.

Was injured last Friday. Should be info coming out in the next few days when he gets an MRI.

Without Wilson, Huss Throws 4 TDs as Orange Shuts Out Cedar Ridge 42-0 - Hillsborough Sports

There was adversity for Orange football before kickoff against its crosstown rival on Friday night.
Then they lost their best player.
Payton Wilson, an All-State linebacker who has played five different positions this season, suffered a right knee injury on the opening kickoff against Cedar Ridge. He emerged from the Cedar Ridge field house on crutches before the end of the first quarter.

He replied this on Twitter:

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Minor setback for a major comeback! <a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/godspeed?src=hash&ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">#godspeed</a></p>— Payton Wilson (@payton_wilson21) <a href="https://twitter.com/payton_wilson21/status/924298117830365184?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">October 28, 2017</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

Sounds like he may have blown his knee out. Rumor so please don't condemn me if it's not true.

Not surprised ND us making a move if that's the case....

The Duke247 analyst gave Wilson a CB to NC St today. Anna Hickey from Clemson247 had done the same a few weeks ago.

He hadn't had a CB anywhere else but to UNC since committing there in May.

ISD and their sources seem to think that the Wilson family is very loyal to the area and wants to represent locally.

ND and NCState have been negative recruiting UNC for the last few weeks.

I actually think ND is sitting 3rd out of the 3.

Wiltfong was on Bucknuts Morning 5 again and talked about Payton.

One of Wiltfongs favorite players in the 2018 class.
Was a State Championship wrestler and plays with tremendous leverage.
Thinks that while Payton would undoubtedly be a really good linebacker, he thinks he could be a truly menacing DE pass rusher
Distance from home was a factor initially, now not so much.
Wiltfong spoke with him yesterday and Payton said his best visit to date was to pOSU.
Possibly visiting pOSU and Clemson in December.

Freebie from ISD

They might not admit it, but coaches have their favorite players and they have their favorite recruits as well.

Payton Wilson* seems to be one of those recruits for Clark Lea.

The Notre Dame linebackers coach began recruiting the 2018 North Carolina linebacker back when he was still coaching linebackers at Wake Forest.

“As a matter of fact, he may have been the first or maybe at least the second coach to make Payton an offer last year,” Orange High School head coach Van Smith said of Lea. “So, he was first in line.”

The two clearly hit it off.

“Payton went to some games at Wake Forest with Coach Lea and Coach Lea really wants to coach him,” Smith said.

It appeared that was out of the question when the 6-foot-4, 225-pound Wilson committed to the North Carolina back in May, but as Wilson approaches the end of his process, he’s taking one last look at all of his options.

“When (Lea) went to Notre Dame, he stayed in contact,” said Smith. “He’s a great guy. I think Payton likes him a lot.”

Lea will get another shot with Wilson when the defender takes an official visit to Notre Dame this weekend.

Heard this visit went very, very well.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him return for the banquet.

Elko and Lea putting in some serious work here.

We've got a shot. Getting him and Lamb in this class would be incredible. Not to mention Simon at Rover. Close with Wilson, Griffith, Gordon and Bracy or Crim on defense would be outstanding work by the staff.

Probably my favorite recruit left on the board. Something about him just screams athletic play-maker.
