if this wasn't grades, F him.
if we pushed him out, hope he has a great career.
if he pulled a dirty, hope he fumbles every time he touches the ball.

I think this confirms what was being talked about in the Boykin thread. Personally I hope Markese does well but his team goes 0-12 every year. FUSC or SCU as Boykin’s friend refers to them.

I'm done with Indy like Lax is done with Cali.

My favorite Indy recruits since 2015 besides Asmar Bilal:

Cam McGrone = Michigan
Emil Ekiyor = Bama
Markese Stepp = USC
Pete Werner = Ohio St
Hunter Johnson = Clemson
Brandon Peters = Michigan
Chris Evans = Michigan
Jovan Swann = Stanford

If only Noah Burks and Darrin Kirkland had gone to The U.

Unbelievable. F*** Indy.

I think it's funny how fans typically have these serious, hardcore loyalties to specific teams.

Players, not so much. Players play the field.

It's cringeworthy for us. It's real life for them.

Good luck, Markese.

But really? USC?

I'm betting that Markese wanted with all his heart to go to ND and just couldn't make the grades. Then I'm betting that he took a sad shrug and said well, let's try to get the best spot I can, since I can't have my choice. ---> USC.

If true, hard to do anything but like the young man.

Since I'm assuming that this is the way it went, I'm hoping that he has a great career and a great education, and succeeds everywhere except that his team loses to us every year. He really wanted to help ND in recruiting for a long time.

Yeah, I mean, we would've liked him to stay blue collar and go for a more humble team like IU, but he has dreams to follow.

It makes sense that he would go for his best option.

Great post.

You can take this however .... He never was coming here even with his commitment... Has been openly dialoguing with schools entire time... Take a look at his tweets for some time a while back... Doesn't come as a surprise... Was told months ago he wouldn't sign with us... Peace out.. Also had some attitude issues too and not all coaches necessarily liked him

I mean I am not a smart man but I saw the writing on the wall months ago. I knew when his coach went to USC and he hesitated on signing early. Fairly certan I called it that he wouldnt be a part of the team. Might have been lucky.

Haha. Well said, and I concur.

I hate USC (as a west coaster) more than any school including Miami and Michigan; but somehow I actually feel good about this one. I think it is a great move for Steep, and wish him well. He will get to fulfill his dream of playing in ND stadium - but hopefully he gets stomped 49-14 or so each time. Great choice to get out of Indy for him. It may be a culture shock, but I hope he copes and excels as a person and student.

This proves once again that the most pro-ND commits on twitter are the ones you have to worry about the most.

Third on the depth chart. Don't know how much Helton splits carries, but if third I wouldn't expect to see much of him.

You'll see him. He had 10 car for 62 yds in their last game vs Washington. He's something like 25 car for 160 on the season and he didn't play the first game vs Fresno. Actually, has been the second most productive back since week 2.

Helton splits the carries much more than ND has this year. Stephen Carr has 30 car and Vavae Malepeai (Sp) has around 80.

Yup, he’ll see plenty of action. They’ll run some 2 back sets as well IIRc.

i follow usc reporters on twitter, seems to be a lot of fans/beat reporters upset he isn't getting more carriers as he has produced when he is in

He looked like he should have been the lead back in the game I saw. Seemed like the stud back they need.

Yeah, I think he's going to be a problem on Saturday.

I think he gets at least 50% of the carries based on how he's running as of late.

lol bro if we can keep Swift in check, we sure as shit shouldn't be sweating Stepp. Yeah, he's good and yeah we'd be thrilled to have him, but he shouldn't be a problem for us on Saturday.

Yeah I dont worry about him very much this year. Developmental wise he may be tough in a couple of years to handle. But being USC and the LA culture, he may not even be around by then.

I really dislike how people say he was a one time ND commit while leaving out that he couldnt qualify was the reason he isnt at ND today. Not that he just woke up and thought USC was the place he wanted to be.

I suspect ND won’t have as many in the box vs SC as they did vs UGA so Stepp may have an easier row to hoe than Swift did.
