Personally, I'm not worried.

I think the negative recruiting aimed at our DB coach was very effective, because the defense was legitimately terrible. I think its going to take a solid season of defense from the CBs--which I think we are seeing--in order to really undo it.

If ND comes out of this season 9-3 and played good defense, I think we'll be fine, and we'll end up with 2 good corners and 2 good safeties, which is all we need.

If we stink it up, we are going to be on out third options anyway, and looking for a new DB coach.

I think that the board in January is going to look a lot different than right now.

I also think they have legitimately resisted stretching for kids who they didn't see as real players.

To me, you are expressing the 7-8 win view, and I still think 9 or 10 is within reach.

If we end up with 7, I'm with you.

I am expressing the 21 months without a corner commitment view. (troy pride on December 24, 2015.

The bolded doesnt add up to me though. We offered DJ but we dont see him as a real player. We apparently arent sold on Burton who has visited multiple times and got an offer. So this is a clear contradiction to this thought.

I didn't say we didn't offer, I said we weren't pushing. I think we've learned the lesson that you have to offer your Plan Bs and then try to manage the recruitment. You can't just not offer and then try to get in late.

As for the "21 months," the date of the Pride commitment doesn't mean anything. Why should it count against Lyght that he had his very good 2016 class locked up by December? Signing day is all that matters. We signed 3 guys in 2016 and zero in 2017. That sucks without trying to make it look even worse.

As far as 2017 goes, we looked terrible on defense, and we had 3 quality corners, all of whom got playing time, and a 4th guy with 3 years of eligibility left on the depth chart. That is basically the perfect storm from a recruiting perspective.

I think we'll steady the ship by signing day.

what's so hard to understand the recruiting? we have offered guys they believe to be worthy....most have eliminated us....these coaches aren't just accepting anyone...there is also some behind the scene stuff here regarding donte which could also be with some others which could be why some "no brainer" offers aren't handed out...much more than just tape and transcripts in play w/ these kids...plus why would a db come here? WHAT DB has shown anything to write home about in the past couple of years???? (KVR? pfff)db's by nature are usually brash and cocky...these aren't typically the kind of kids that generally work out well at ND

Not worried at all here. Mike Elko plays a major role in the recruitment of all the defensive players. He knows what he's looking for at each position. In Elko I trust.

Just revealed that Burton got his needed score on the ACT. Believe it was a 22. 3.7 GPA.
