Race For Chatfield Heating Up

I don't think this quote bodes well for the Irish. In speaking of his leader LSU, he said:

I heard the campus life and the food is good. If your campus and food are good, then you've won me over all day.

However, if by "campus life" he meant "high academics" and by "food" he meant "a 40 year decision", then maybe we're in better shape than I think.

Hopefully he has a burning desire for shitty hot dogs that cost a quarter.

Ain't no Bruno's, Barnaby's, Rocco's or Polito's in Baton Rouge.

I'm sure the Chipotlesque Pizza... Blaze is better than anything at LSU.

I seriously don't know how people can live in areas with sh!t pizza.

Why does he like him better than any of them?

Not to mention, the guys listed all play a different position. Chatfield is a WDE.

Read his post and it seems obvious he likes him more than Vann. I don't understand your question.

I think you may want to read it again.

Yeah, sign Chatfield, and the name of Vann will never be spoken again. Meaning, we'd be happy with taking Chatfield over Vann. Hence, asking what he likes more about Chatfield.

I still don't understand your question. I'm looking for NDinCrusader to tell me what he likes more about him since he's a film guy.

Can you not read? You really don't see in that same sentence the names "O'Rourke" and "Waggoner"?

I read that as he likes him more than all three of them, not just Vann.

Yeah - but Vann is included and I'm asking specifically what he likes more than Vann. I do not understand how that's hard to figure out.

So can we let NDCrusader answer the question now?

What in the hell are you talking about? You asked me, ya weirdo.

I'm not asking you anything man. I'm asking NDCrusader what he likes more about Chatfield than Vann, which his post indicates is true.

Relax - nothing here concerns you.

You literally quoted me and asked me the question. Now you're acting like you didn't because you clearly can't read.

Better quit back talkin' me too, boy.

"Why does he like him better than any of them" is the question I asked Koon and he told me that he was only talking about Vann, asking me to clarify.

You're right... it is clear as mud.

NDCrusader - what do you like better about Chatfield than Vann? Size? According to your Fickle theory, the size might not be a differentiator, so wondering what you think between the two.

Looks like they're a couple again.

You better hope he doesn't like Cajun food.

Criminally underrated at this point. Probably won't be for long. Ideal fit for Elko at his Drop end position.

Wow just watched his film and he flies off the edge with great bend. Would love to get him on campus early.

Even though his head coach is a Miami grad he really, really likes ND

I think I've watched 20 minutes of his highlights and he dropped once. He's the best pass rusher in this class but would that make him the best for Elko's Drop position?

I just watched that one clip of him bending in the beginning and that sold me. I'll be honest I half ass watched that video and was texting. I saw enough in the first 30 seconds, all you really need.

IMO, this is getting completely overblown, because of the term Drop. He's going to have very similar responsibilities to most 3-4 ROLB's. Elko likes to bring exotic pressures, so at times you'll see him dropping into coverage, but if D. Hayes is your best pass rusher, then he's not going to drop him all that often.

Last year, his WDE/Drop end wasn't that effective as a pass rusher, but his Rover was. So he'd essentially replace his Drop with the Rover (move the Rover around), and bring in another DB. In fact, his Rover had more TFL's and sacks than his WDE. I think that has more to do with the player, and players around him, that what Elko wants of the position.

To me this example gives more credence to the idea that Elko is exceptional at putting players in the right position to be successful, than it is that, his Drop end plays in coverage a lot.

During one of Elko's interviews, I believe it was on the Jack Swarbrick show. He said that they are going to get pressure, anyway that they can. Ideally, it would be front 4 making plays. However, if that's not happening, then you make changes. Hence, the example I gave above. If Chatfield comes to campus and is a dynamic pass rusher. What Elko isn't, is BVG. He's not fixated on scheme. He's fixated on player development, and getting guys into position to be successful.

Fair. Let's say I want him to play the "smash the sh!t out of the QB" position in Elko's defense. And I can amend my statement above to say, "I like him most of all the prospects in contention to play the 'smash the sh!t out of the QB' position.

:)

I just really like his burst and he's physical.

i believe he would be the single most impactful D player for ND in this class not named Xavier and even that's close Would take over Parsons.

Ft. Lauderdale’s four-star ‘Jack’ backer Andrew Chatfield (6’2, 221, 4.6) is continuing to move up the Sooner charts after an impressive evaluation workout. Chatfield is ranked No. 14 WDE nationally but evaluations may bump that up as Alabama, Notre Dame and LSU have also ramped up their interest

Sounds like Wisconsin and LSU are the top 2
