A Jarron Jones / Terry Jillery like prospect. Could end up playing either side. I would guess they'll look at him as an OT first. they have a ton of great options at DT in '18. The OT's aren't anywhere as plentiful as they were in '17's loaded class.

So he's visiting same time as Ryan Hayes (Michigan OL)? Would be great if we got at least 1 of them.

Correct.

It doesn't sound like NPF will be making a decision anytime soon. So, probably a long ways to go here, but we have HH, Denson, and Long all recruiting this kid. Florida seems to be the de-facto leader at this point.

High school coach on Nicholas Petit-Frere

Tampa (Fla.) Berkeley Prep four-star offensive tackle Nicholas Petit-Frere is being recruited heavily by nearly every school in the country.

Alabama, Florida, Ohio State, Michigan, Miami, LSU, Notre Dame and many others have already offered the 6-6, 260-pounder from the class of 2018.

Does any school have an edge?

Berkeley Prep high school coach Dominic Ciao says his offensive tackle likes a lot of schools, but there isn’t a program alone at the top.

“We’re trying to deal with this and at this point, it is what it is,” said Ciao. “It’s wonderful he has all the offers, but I’ve been coaching a long time. You never know what will be there in the end. He’s open to seeing who is there at the end. He wants to visit Notre Dame and get a feel for the direction of the program and coaching staff. After that, we’ll see where things are heading. We’ll know more after spring football and have a better idea of things. Right now, he just finished basketball and he’s focused on the weight room and getting ready for spring football.”

Petit-Frere will be in South Bend for his first Notre Dame visit on March 24 and 25. Although Ciao isn’t fully sure of the trip details, he says that trip is the only visit locked in as of today. Petit-Frere has gotten to know the Irish coaching staff well and he and his mother are looking forward to the trip.

“Harry Hiestand recruits the area,” said Ciao of Notre Dame’s offensive line coach. “Along with the help of running backs coach Autry Denson, we’ve met with both of them and good talks. They’ve recruited Nick for a while. We are just dealing with the process of spring football and after that we’ll have a better direction of where things are headed. He is very humbled over the offers and looking forward to that trip.”

Petit-Frere has blown up this spring. Schools are finally recognize how talented he truly his. Some refer to him as a “freak athlete” and believe he could eventually be the best of the bunch in 2018.

“He’s a great player,” said Ciao. “He has a high motor. Tremendous run blocker and pass protector. Very agile feet. Dominant run blocker. Great student. Great young man. Everyone in the country has offered him. You hope at the end you have one. That’s where we are at this point in recruiting.”

The collaborative effort in how multiple coaches teaming up with a plan to recruit a kid is IMO why we're in it for so many kids. For example, it's what Tommy Bush is most impressed with. Having Long, Alexander and Kearney calling/texting him as well as some contact from Kelly, is what has grabbed his attention. Makes him feel wanted.

Denson is very well liked by every kid he contacts.
Polian is an even better recruiter than most think, IMO. The fact he was HC is huge to kids.
Long seems to quietly go about his business and does solid in collaboration with Del/Polian etc
Kellly is getting after it way more than years past.
Lyght is always liked and I think he learned from last year.
Mike Elston I doing a great job. He's a smooth guy. High charisma. Your quintessential high level college football coach who sits in a kids living room in his khakis and tells them why ND is for them and makes them feel comfortable and that he will personally take care of them.

I think in the end, we will have landed 5-6 more solid 4⭐️ Types, a few 3⭐️ Who are undervalued/project types and 1-5⭐️ Just my gut feeling. Thought I'd throw it out there

I love your work Kev, but the comment on Polian throws me off a bit.

I think we all would agree that Polian has been a great recruiter and is the best recruiter on the staff. I mean it was widely known he was the Ace recruiter for Weis. He landed big time players like Manti, Cierre Wood, Shaq Evans, etc. The fact that he has head coaching experience now only helps him more in the recruiting game.

Sure sounds like you two are one the same page, Sherm. What throws you off a bit?

Threw me off that "a better recruiter than people think." Maybe I took that the wrong way. But I read it as people think Polian is an OK recruiter. But Kev was saying he is better than people give him credit. While in my mind I've always thought Polian was an elite recruiter and one of the best in the Nation; I couldn't think much higher about Polian. IDK what I'm trying to say. Basically I took it as we don't give enough credit for Polians recruiting ability. But I've always thought he was the best.

I guess I just read that wrong. Just ignore me.

I can see both your points. I think Vancouver is right in that most people feel Polian is a very good recruiter but he thinks he might be even better than that. You already think he is elite and realize most feel he is very good so just balked a bit at the comment.

No foul. Play on. Unless, of course, this is soccer, then you are flailing around on the ground like you just got shot by a sniper.

Given the year we had, and the haul we had on the OL last year, his interest is a real tribute to the staff, especially to HH.

Wouldn't mind one bit if we stuck him on the D line

Where? MTA, Ewell, Jay Ade, Jam Franklin, Yung Musti... this is the beginning of a late 80's / early 90's DT quality run.

Then add J Lacey in '19 who's gonna kick the '19 class off in borderline 5 star style no later than Invasion and it's on like Donkey Kong.

Keep NPF at OT if they can land 'em.

None of those guys are even on campus. Petit is a top 50 player and everyone has pretty much said he's a freak athlete. We need all the help on the Dline we can get. OL isn't the problem

Don't be the smartest guy in the room and move the OT with the most Top 25 offers in his class to the other side of the ball.

DT is gonna be fine.... finally. Yes, I said it and I actually mean it for once

What's the wait for mustipher if he's this lock

Good question. With a class as strong as ND's this cycle he should be on board helping Coach Stepp recruit. Being that he isn't, it's my assumption that he's a 50-50 guy. i only count him in posts like the one above because everyone else thinks he's a lock.

If ND is lucky enough to get him I just can't see him on Defense at all, he's without question a future LT. He reminds me very much of Ronnie Stanley with a mix of Tyron Smith.

Even though they are fighting for RT this season I believe come next season Liam Eichenberg and Tommy Kraemer will be the ones that replace Mike McGlinchey and Quenton Nelson on the left side of the OL.

These studs are going to have to bide there time because there is just so much talent in waiting and NP-F as good as he is will most likely RS his first year and then be Liam's backup for a season or two.

He looks good at breaking up passes so could be handy on special teams.

Let's not forget about the future...Josh Lugg and Aaron Banks are the future also.
