This is one where we just have to see where all the teams are at at the end of the season.

Do you think if ND went 10-2 with wins over a 9-3 SC and an 8-4 Stanford that he would be Irish?

95% nope but this is one you don't give up on.

I always thought it was less than 10% chance we land him, but its a kid you keep in contact, keep full court pressing, because if that 10% hit, hes a major difference maker IMO

I think it's a lot more viable. Still far, far from a sure thing IMO.

Dad and the fam has to like where ND and the staff is at the end of the season and any blemishes for the other two's image would help.

Didn't EQ's recruitment go until NSD?

I think ASB will do the same (which shouldn't come as a surprise).

I can't see ND letting this recruitment go. ASB said he's got a good relationship with Kelly and as I've said numerous times in Polian I trust.

ASB is a 5* recruit, we all know the hoopla that comes with that status.

I think some are overreacting that ND is out of this race...have some faith (for once).

Well as a USC fan. Outside of SC boards this is my favorite message board to read. We feel we have a great great shot. He lives down the road an has been to SC multiple times this year. He has stated many times he wants to carve his own pass an to us has always felt like an SC lean. To me having s great year almost assures at this point he comes to SC. But that's just my opinion.

Unfortunately, I have to agree with you.

It's a lot easier for schools like USC, Stanford, UCLA or any other school in California to visit ASB all those schools have to do is take a drive. Unfortunately for ND we have to fly across the country.

ASB is saying the same thing that OSB said that they want to carve their own path. Even if OSB came to ND he could still carve his own path.

Winning for both ND & USC will help (would help any team). When Polian was recruiting for Weis he won some recruiting battles over USC, ND hasn't won many recruiting battles against USC when Denbrock was our recruiter out West.

I think ND fans are giving up too early on this one....

Agree and this season with a new staff is probably going to make or break this recruitment.

I'd personally rather he end up a Trojan than a Tree. Any insight on why so many people think he ends up at Stanford?

They have no questions at QB right now. SC does. Matt Fink is Darnold's back up. Reason #1 to go to Stanford. If I'm a WR, I'd completely trust Jack Sears but on paper it's him vs. Chryst, Costello, Mills & West for 2018. Easily the best depth chart in the country and the best projection for ASB's time in Palo Alto if that's where he chooses. (I would still take a healthy Wimbush-->Jurkovec over the same time frame you just won't have the same quality holding clipboards)

On the other hand if he goes to SC, the P's are at his games in 30 minutes or 4 hours if there's a wreck.

Well, Chryst is total garbage. Costello and Mills have done nothing. Every single QB Stanford has signed since Luck has turned out to be mediocre-to-trash regardless of their over-inflated stars.

Darnold, on the other hand, is actually good at football. Maybe he's leaving in the very near future but Costello/Mills are no more proven than his backups.

Darnold means nothing in regards to ASB. He'll be gone.

In regards to the every single QB since Luck... Kevin Hogan's #'s would be 2nd at ND behind just Quinn. Better %, TD & Int than Clausen and just 7 attempts separate their careers. I know, shocked me too.

If Chryst figures it out, he has 2 years remaining. If he doesn't Costello (most likely) or Mills will. They won't all suck just because Ryan Burns did/does.

You can crack on what they haven't done but they have pedigree. You must be shitting in your boots with a, have done nothing Wimbush as ND's QB, while your future relies on a has done less than nothing Phil Jurkovec who can't even make the Elite 11.

Pull a Barkley and kill his draft stock?

As much as NFL GMs and fans are eager to get Darnold into the pros, however, the USC quarterback is no lock to leave for the NFL after the 2017 season — or even the 2018 season, if Daniel Jeremiah’s sources are to be believed.

The NFL Network analyst dropped that nugget in his coverage of The Opening while calling attention to the strong impression Darnold left at the showcase event.

“Several sources close to Darnold tell me they wouldn’t be surprised if Darnold played two more seasons at USC,” Jeremiah wrote.

Darnold is a redshirt sophomore, giving him two more years of eligibility at USC after 2017. He could remain with the Trojans as far as 2019.

Lies, damn lies, and statistics. There is no comparing Clausen and Hogan. Clausen was a stud once the rest of the team became functional. Hogan was always mediocre. IMO, if Clausen had gone to USC and sat until his third year, he would have been considered an All-American (not a pro great, college)-- but no one knew yet how Charlie's excellence with X's and )'s simply didn't translate into player development.

Clausen was thrown in as a freshman to carry one of the worst teams in college football, behind one of the most disorganized o-lines in ND history, with a bad running game and either mediocre or inexperienced receivers, and with a coach who can't develop players. He was literally running backwards on a regular basis. On top of all that, the defense was atrocious, so he had to throw a lot and try and score. It was awful. By the time he was Sophomore, he was shaking off the bad habits and killing it, but the defense was still bad enough that the offense was always exposed. By his Junior year, he was excellent.

Hogan was asked to hand the ball off. His defense was excellent. He was a system guy that was not asked to do a lot, and made an occasional play.

Did coming back "kill" his draft stock or NFL teams actually diving into his film "kill" his draft stock?

If film was the issue giving them more and more ammo certainly wouldn't have helped.

Here are some stats. Comb through them and maybe rethink your position. Try and keep stupid things like W's & L's out of the equation.

Shoulder injury, right? Some thought he could've been QB2 after Luck

I think it was Cam who he was up against his Jr year had he entered.
