He's a must get for ND I know we have great WR depth but we don't have a superstar WR not that you need one but this kid is a 10+ catch every game and can impact the game on so many levels. My favorite recruit in this class.

I completely agree with you on this. ASB is my #1 get for this class.

I think if ESB has a big year this will help.

I also think having Brian Polian on the staff and recruiting in CA will help ND.

While Polian won't hurt, Alexander is going to be the main contact and he should know how to sell against SC as well as anyone in the business. The Brown's already know what ND is about so it's more about the relationship Coach Alexander strikes up with ASB and his P's.

What's really going to help is if Wimbush and ESB have a monster year that eclipses whatever ASB sees as the future at SC and Stanford. Next will be if he sees Phil as someone he trusts with the second half of his ND career. Lastly ESB and especially Wimbush need to actively recruit lil bro.

Unfortunately I think he stays out west so the P's don't have to travel all over the country to see games but it'd sure be a lot cooler if I didn't.

According to II podcast Brown is definitely taking two visits during the season and they are rather obvious. ND and Stanford. Doesn't know if he'll take any others. USC and UCLA being local schools won't require him taking official visits.

To me, Wimbush is the key. If he makes it really fun to be a WR at ND, and ASB gets a personal connection through his brother, than things could happen.

Alexander isn't his main recruiter

You've got something but you don't want to tell?

247 lists Alexander.

I'm going to guess Polian and Alexander. And I'm sure Kelly is heavily involved in this one. I recall Amon commenting how much he liked Coach Kelly.

Generally each coach recruits a geographical area. Polian covers the west coast basically the area that Mike Denbrock had been covering the past few years.

Then what areas are covered by Long and Alexander? I have heard their names mentioned less in recruiting updates then even BVG the last few years (may be hyperbole); was really hoping ALL of the new staff would pound the pavement on recruiting.

Listening to the different podcasts from different sites, they aren't hearing much of their names being mentioned by recruits

So we traded a DC who didn't recruit for an OC who doesn't?

i think it was on the MF podcast they made mention that Elko loves to recruit but they haven't heard/seen much out of Chip Long on this front.

Long has a great history of recruiting. Who knows what's actually happening ...

I've heard Long mentioned quite a bit by the TE's we've had on campus recently.

Also heard Del's name mentioned a few times by WR's and some west coast kids.

Neither one as much as Elko and Lea but those two just seem to be killing it.

I think Long's area is down south. From Alabama I think, right? And coached at Memphis and Arkansas to name a few. Would make sense at least.

Not sure about Alexander but I would imagine he would be out west with Polian. Polian covers a TON of ground if he doesn't have help out there.

Off the top of my head, Alexander's been to Denver, New Orleans, Texas, AZ, Cali, Oregon, Washington.

ND's "problem" is they now have 3 guys who have made a name for themselves on the westcoast which isn't as important to ND as it once was with it's shift to an ACC footprint. The optimal staff would have been two guys who are to NJ/MD/DC/VA/NC to what Polian is to the westcoast.

Elko and Elston work most of those areas. Denson and Long work the southern states.

the problem is that when you hear recruits have a hard time remembering their names or not even mention them....think about ucla...coach meat is named by almost ALL the big time recruits they get...yes a couple of kids have mentioned long in terms of utilizing the te position but they arent talking about him or alexander as someone they have frequent contact with or regularly mention

So I'm not sure if this helps but here's the idea behind the ND coaching staff and their recruiting regions. This is NOT factoring in the non-regional recruiting that happens with different position coaches around the country. For example, Del Alexander is flying all over the country to see WR, Tommy Rees will probably be jetting around the country like Mike Sanford to see all of the QBs, etc.

QB - Tommy Rees - IL - Growing up outside of Chicago and spending time at Northwestern and Notre Dame this makes him a good candidate to have relationships with coaches in IL.

RB - Autry Denson - FL - He was a head high school coach in my home state, grew up in FL, played for the Dolphins and Bucs, and coached at Bethune Cookman. He's very much the primary recruiter to most recruits in Florida. Also, FL is a top 2 state in talent so he doesn't need to go many other places.

WR - Del Alexander - CA,AZ - Grew up in LA, played HS and College ball in LA, spent five seasons in AZ with ASU. Looks like He'll recruit the offensive talents from those states.

OC/TE - Chip Long - AL,AZ,TN,AR,GA,LA,MS - Basically this is signifying that Chip Long is taking the non-Florida SEC states because he grew up in AL, was a coach at Memphis, Louisville, and Arkansas, and has the best connections in SEC country. I also included AZ there from his time at ASU because he had some really good success in AZ and Southern California recruiting.

OL - Harry Hiestand - PA - Hiestand seems to be pretty focused on recruiting OL from all around the country which I am very content with because he's killing it on the trail. The only non-OL recruits I've seen him involved with were Will Fuller and Josh Adams where he was listed as the primary recruiter. He is from PA, went to school in PA, and coached in PA which gives him some relationships, but he's also coached at like 50 schools around the country so I think he can do his job anywhere.

DL - Mike Elston - MI,OH,IN - Elston is from Ohio, spent 14 years in Michigan after high school as a student athlete and coach before coming to Ohio again and then Indiana. He's also one of the better recruiters on this staff and the recruiting coordinator so he's all over the place and ND is better off because of it.

LB - Clark Lea - TN,MD,VA,NC,SC,GA - Coach Lea is a Nashville guy and he's spent time and has connections in Tennessee. Outside of that he's been much harder to peg as he has recruitments in VA,NC,SC,GA which probably stem from his Wake Forest days. Seems like he's shaping up to be a mid-Atlantic recruiter for ND.

DB - Todd Lyght - MI,NV - Lyght grew up in Michigan, played for Notre Dame, and then spent 6 seasons in St. Louis after the Rams moved there. I didn't include MO because I haven't seen or heard of him recruiting in MO. He does seem to be recruiting purely secondary players, but his only targets outside of secondary athletes are from Nevada which come from his coaching days at Bishop Gorman.

DC/DB - Mike Elko - NJ,NY,VA,NC - Our new DC is from the NJ area and has coached and played football around that area for years. So he's probably the go-to guy for Shayne Simon, the twins, and other recruits from NY, NJ, and the Northeast. VA and NC are included because of his talent in recruiting that area from his time at Wake Forest.

ST - Brian Polian - CA,OR,NV,UT,WA,HI - Polian is our west coast recruiter and the game changer if we're going to scoop up talent west of the Rockies. He was a head coach in Nevada, has tremendous relationships all along the west coast, and has a history of recruiting Hawaii quite well...

The obvious miss is no one is recruiting TX personally. Looks like it's a team effort with Chip Long, Autry Denson, Del Alexander, Mike Elko, and Todd Lyght picking up different guys. Hope this clears some things up

We shouldn't be too critical of the recruiting of any of the new coaches at this time. Most of the highest rated recruits have been recruited since their freshman or sophomore year of high school. The new coaches have only been on the staff for six months.

Only time will tell if they can establish those early relationships with future four and five star players. More important for the 2018 recruits is to keep them committed to Notre Dame when other schools come calling. We have too many "Notre Dame is good enough for now." verbal commitments. We need more "If Notre Dame offers, they are my only commitment." recruits. Notre Dame needs to be the 1st choice, not a fall-back option.

I'd like to see Harry get involved with more recruits. Seems he gets the ones he wants.

Having Polian back on this staff and recruiting out west for ND will be big for ND.

Look at the names that he brought in under Weis. In the time that he's been here under Kelly he's made his presence with the Hawaiian kids.

The deeper ASB's recruitment goes I think you'll see Chip Long and Alexander get involved, but I think Polian will get ASB to ND.

I also think if Wimbush and ESB have a good connection, that will help.

I trust Polian a hell of a lot more with this recruitment then I would Del Alexander.

Imagine if Todd Lyght was recruiting ASB, fck Mr. All World Super Dad would break his back like Bane did to Batman
