It's just not worth the effort. Could spend the time recruiting someone local twice as hard as the effort spent in California.

Yep and be nowhere as talented or have the upside as the Cali kid. ND always hits Cali hard and that won't be stopping anytime soon.

ND has landed some real talent from that state and sure some haven't turned out the way we all wanted it too but it's top 3 talent rich state which ND has had some major success at some schools.

I know this sucks but according to every single pay site it does sound like their is a family emergency.

I'm sure the staff will push Irvin and his dad to visit again in Jan.

Not to sound like a prick but it''s not like they can't afford it

I get people are frustrated, believe me I am too. But yeah, it sounds like it's legit and very serious. My thoughts are with his family.

I won't say for a fact, but I really think this isn't a bail-out, because more often than not, another school is involved to talk him out of signing, but it's the dead period, so odds are slim that's happened.

Good luck to all.
So long as the Allen and Griffith families are a-okay then I am cool.

Per Biggins, USC has really turned up the heat over the last 48 hrs. Can still have communication just not in-person. So, more likely than not, he ends up taking an OV to USC.

part of the game. It sucks, but it's part of the game. Have to recruit Cali, talent is just too great. Only a handful of kids from Indiana are really capable to play at a high level in the FBS. In California, there are literally probably 100 or more every single year.

Schools with very little in-state talent like ND/MICH have to try and go out and recruit nationally. And California is one of the 4 biggest hot-beds of talent along with Florida, Texas, and Georgia. Have to recruit those states.

Every program/coach loses big-time national recruits they had locked up. Even Urban Meyer- and he might just be the best recruiter there is. He just lost 5* DE Brenton Cox of Georgia, and he's very likely to lose high 4* QB Emory Jones from Georgia to the Florida Gators and 5* Safety Jaiden Woodbey of California to USC. When you recruit 5* and 4* players from other regions, sometimes you lose them. Just part of the game unfortunately.

I feel like the only coach who doesn't lose those type of commitments is that damn Nick Saban in Alabama. I have my $u$picion$ as to why that is. Everybody likes free Chargers.

Yeah I’m sure you wouldn’t be on here complaining the staff doesn’t put forth the effort to recruit the highly rated guys from Cali. Certainly you’d be understanding. If I’ve learned anything from your posts it’s that rankings don’t matter to you. #yeahright.

Family emergency is reportedly legit so people shouldn't be dragging that, at all.

He was effectively committed as of a day ago so yeah this is really unfortunate from a recruiting perspective. Oh well... I can only rant so many times about the perils of recruiting the west coast.

If this family situation forces him to stay close to home, then really f*ck us. Throw ND a freakin' bone Jesus. Enough tripping us up at the finish line. At least give us Boykin or Gordon as a "consolation prize" (I say that, but honestly I'd be cool with any of those 3).

I can hear them now:

Hey kid. We are sorry for your loss but would really like to get you on campus tomorrow morning before the funeral. Any chance you can come back and squeeze in an announcement after the casket gets covered? #fighton

The article was from 12/17. Could've been a mistake. Even if the writer knew something we didn't, doesn't mean that he will end up at ND now that he is waiting to sign.
