'17 VA DT Darnell Ewell (Notre Dame Signee)

Definitely what this DL needed, an upgrade at DT, and one that should be able to contribute right away. Ewell/Amosa/Hinish provide us some flexibility with this upcoming class. Early optimism says this should be our best back to back DT classes under Kelly.

Well I guess per Sampson he hasn't been impressive so far and is gonna need a year

I've been having a long look at our '17 class lately and re-watching Hudl film. Man....this guy is savage. I'm not kidding when I say I'm pretty certain he's the most physically developed HS player I've ever seen. 6'3, 298 lbs with no gut. His strength is off the charts. In my opinion, he's easily our best verbal right now. He's VERY well spoken and intelligent in his interviews so I'm confident that he will pick up the mental part of the game right away and be ready to help us at DT next year. He seems to have good speed so perhaps in the future he could play some SDE for us in big fronts like Sheldon did or possibly a DE in a 3-4. Regardless, we need help on D and with Ewell, Adams, Adebo coming in amongst others, I'd say we have three solid future starters there. I'd say all three will play in '17.

But on the other hand both Hinish and the Hawaiian kid (need to learn his name) have looked very good and may be in a position to help this year.

Now... easily being the best commit, playing SDE and getting clock as true freshmen with Adams & Adebo are open for discussion.

Not really, just that both are in great shape and look like they can contribute as FR. if necessary. I think Myron is especially the one to keep an eye on.

That seems odd. If he's built like a brick shit-house, then what is Sampson basing this disappointment off of? They're 2-3 weeks away from fall camp.

It's not disappointment and Pete's comments are being taken the wrong away. No one is saying Ewell can't help this year or that he won't be a great player at ND. All he's saying is that based on reports he gets from people around the program is the Hinish and Myron showed up on campus in better shape and look more physically ready at this point. I wouldn't make a mountain out of a mole hill on this one. But Amosa has made a very good early impression on the staff. BTW he also mentioned that Cole Kmet and Robert Hainsey continue to get rave reviews and could play bigger roles as FR. than people think.

So Cage is coming off of knee surgery, and Elijah Taylor is recovering from a major foot injury. We all know and discussed how that means Ewell has to be ready to go day 1, and now rumors of him not being ready.

physically ready but he won't have worked out since the spring and be coming off knee surgery and he's probably one concussion away from hanging it up, he'll be a non factor this season IMO
