Correct, you finally got something right. This is what I initially said. You initially said he was 60lbs. heavier. Thank you for agreeing with me and I'm glad we spent all this time coming to the conclusion that your first post was an extreme exaggeration.

I admitted it was an exaggeration. he's anywhere from 25-51 lbs smaller depending on which service you look at. Either way, that's a lot of muscle when both are 17 years old.

We'll have to agree to disagree on the size discrepancy. I exaggerated initially but the fact is that Newton was much bigger at this stage - at a minimum 25 lbs of muscle. That's at least 2 years in a college strength program just to get where Newton was as a high school senior.

As far as playing baseball, I played baseball in college. There are baseball players in college that can't get a football past 40 yards. If what you believe is true - why don't we see more failed pitchers coming back to play college football? Apparently they should have the arm strength and accuracy. Why does't the staff have Torii Hunter throw the ball downfield? Just because a kid is a high school baseball player, doesn't really mean a damned thing at the QB position in college football. It just doesn't.
well...you see...they kinda do

All I've really said is physically he doesn't compare to Cam Newton (not many do - although I admittedly exaggerated on the size difference) and that Hooker doesn't have great arm strength. The only argument I've seen to that effect was - well he plays baseball, so he has arm strength.

Don't think we ever need a 5 star, to be honest. Plenty of really good players out there that aren't. None of Kizer, Zaire, and Wimbush were and I don't expect Hooker to be either but he'll be pretty darn good, should we get him.

To you original question, I'm not a huge fan of taking 2 QB's in the same class unless you feel one can excel somewhere else.

A top 5* Q can make up for a lot of defeciences in an offense. A top 5* Q can make a top offense almost unstoppable. I would take one every chance I had.

Can he throw the football as accurately OR (more importantly for this argument) as far as Wimbush, Zaire, or Kizer?

You sure do like to argue. I'll give you that.

I think this kid is better than his 3 star ranking. I don't see 5 star tools, I don't see Cam Newton and I don't see a strong armed QB. I've already admitted I exaggerated on the height/weight difference with Newton although it is substantial. I've not yet been given an explanation on how playing baseball in high school somehow equates to having elite arm strength. It's less arguing at this point and more that I'm still waiting for an answer to an earlier question. All I'm getting now is:

Hooker demonstrates as much arm strength as DeShone Kizer in his tape. I agree neither one have a cannon, but I don't think his arm strength is of any concern.

I could find a guy at our local Wal-Mart that could throw the ball better. Hooker has accuracy and that's something a lot of prospect don't have.

Jimmy Clausen had zero arm strength and he had a fine college career. I just don't see any reason to be so down on the kid. He throws a better ball than McCaffrey and Frohm. Bailey Hockman might throw the best ball in the country and he doesn't have "great" arm strength either.

I think Clausen could rip it 15 yards as fast as anyone but you are right he doesn't have a cannon

great post

You might be hung up on "5 star tools" because of what I said earlier on page 2. I said, "physical package that is 5 star level" I based that off of his current size as a junior in high school and from watching his basketball clips. He is a serious athlete. When he's done playing basketball (which he takes very seriously) he'll get in the weight room and add muscle and he won't be losing weight playing. I lost 15lbs my senior year after a 30 game season. Another thing, I think he's on the plus side of 6-4 so by the time he would be asked to play he'll be 230+ all day, he'll be more if he wants to be. All I know is, he's a rare athlete for his projected football size and position. Hell, could end up stud receiver with this kind of athleticism...

I don't understand the highlighted part, either sentence.

In the first part (about finding a guy at local Walmart [Michigan Fan?]) who are you referring to? Hooker? Kizer? Or both?

What is the relationship between 'throwing the ball' and 'accuracy?' I understand there are a number of measurements for gauging a quarterbacks throwing ability, but I am losing your overall point. Are you comparing Hooker to guys who can throw a faster ball, further, but not as accurately? Or something else?

Clausen certainly doesn't have great arm strength at the pro level. But for CFB it was plenty adequate.

But as you mentioned he was deadly quick and accurate under 20, just darts on the money.

His fade ball was a thing of beauty the way it fell in the bucket.

He just wasn't meant for the pro game.

Exactly right and that was his knock coming out of high school. He could throw darts and drop it in the bucket like nothing I've seen at ND

So does this turn into a race between him and Davis for 1 spot?

I wouldn't be afraid to take both. Davis could be a better WR or DB even with his 11.0 100 self. He doesn't want to hear that now but It's better to be a stud receiver at a Top 10 school that puts guys in the League vs a dual threat guy sitting the bench or ballin out at McNesse St after you transfer.

2018 will bring another 4 or 5 star 6-3+ QB too.

the newest rivals update which indicates as of late tuesday was that (weird)

"I'm not sure when it's going to be," Hooker said. "I'm waiting for my dad to get here so we can work everything out. He's going to be here this weekend so hopefully we get it figured out."

"My contact with Notre Dame has been good," he said. "I talk with [Coach Sanford] every other night. I have been having some problems with my phone, so it has been tough these past few days, but I'm really excited about going to visit Notre Dame whenever that's going to be. I'm really looking forward to it."
"I always kind of planned on making a commitment around this time," Hooker said. "I'm going to take some visits and then see what happens. I think I'm going to Virginia Tech and West Virginia next week, but I'm still working that out. My spring break is the week after that which gives me time [for visits]."

How fast is this guy? In terms of objective 40 or track numbers, or compared to a current ND qb.

I liked davis' speed a ton. Sounds like this guy is the better qb prospect, so wondering how fast he is

Probably similar to Deshone Kizer - maybe a bit better moving laterally.

davis is EG Mk.2 I doubt the staff wants another QB like him. Kid can run around and make plays out of nothing but I think BK would rather a system QB. Another 5'11' signal caller would scare me also

Davis is EG if EG had 4.5 speed, instead he had 4.8 speed.
