Turban is the better coach (God I hate TOSU)
Harbaugh has a devoted fan base at scUM but..... they will learn to hate him.
Don't think that will happen to Turban

Urban, with arguably his youngest team ever, beat Harbaugh with arguably the most experienced team in college football. I don't think there's really much debate in who is the better coach.

You really think the talent levels are the same?

Is Turban a new derogatory name for Urban Meyer? Yikes, maybe we could stick with Urban Liar haha

Mods. Please move the Harbaugh and Urban comparison to its own thread. I keep looking for an update on Antjuan Simmons, and this thread is full of Jim Harbaugh and Urban Meyer discussion.

Isn't it tricky to debate this considering Harbaugh has been in the NFL and Urban hasn't? If the top 10 college programs had an opening, more would prefer Urban over Harbaugh. Top 10 NFL jobs in same situation...Harbaugh.

Apples and oranges........and I only say that because I'll give you this. 1980's coaching search for ND. You have to choose between Lou Holtz and Mike Ditka. Are you gonna take the professional coach, or the proven college coach????

You're right. He's a better coach than Urban Meyer.

Both of them hit the open market and NFL teams were hiring. You know who'd be the one getting all the calls?

Hint: Not Urban.

That's twice you've equated success in the NFL to NCAA. I got news for you, Urban Meyer IS a better HC than Bill Walsh in college. If we are talking NFL, then the reverse is true. Nick Saban & Jim Harbaugh are better college coaches than Walsh was, too....based on what history has shown. Could Walsh have been a HoF college HC at the right place at the right time? Sure, but he wasn't.

Urban Meyer hast even hinted at an NFL gig yet you point out the obvious that Harbaugh would be in higher demand. In other news, water is wet. So that'd be like saying if both Bo Schembechler & Jim Harbaugh hit the market in their prime, that Harbaugh would be the one getting all the calls.

You do realize there's a huge difference between coaching in the NFL and the NCAA? Nick Saban is a legend and has surpassed what Bear Bryant did IMO when you consider Saban played a tougher slate en route to his NCs (Bryant rarely played de-segregated schools in his prime & when he did, he lost).

As much as we hate to admit it, Urban Meyer could surpass Saban. He's accomplished more at an earlier stage in his career than Saban. I know it pains Meatchicken fans to admit it, but Meyer is a Hall-of-Fame coach and he's still young. Can Harbaugh get there? Sure he can. What he did at Stanford was remarkable. Now let's see what he does at a football factory. I think he can put together a Hall of Fame career....but I know Meyer & Saban have.

This is ridiculous. You don't get put in the same class with the smart kids because "one day you'll be smart". They don't hand out MVP trophies to players that "may be really good one day". Harbaugh is a very good, albeit not GREAT coach. He isn't on their level yet because HE HASNT DONE IT YET. It blows my mind that some of you will put him on the same level of a guy that has three titles, multiple conference championships, more wins and is undefeated against him. Not to mention, Harbaughs one crowning achievement is that he won a BCS game. Big whoop. Urban did that with a fucking Utah team.

I see why so many kids get out of college nowadays and go live in their Momma's basement waiting for a management position. The mindset that one can be automatically given the same stature as someone that has earned it already is the same mindset plaguing society. It's pathetic. Coaching legends like Urban deserve more respect than to be considered equal to a guy that can't beat him and has achieved roughly what he achieved at freaking Utah.

Pftt...

Exactly. Dwight Gooden was the next Bob Gibson and a sure fire HOfer....and then he was a drug addict. Daryl Strawberry was the next Willie Mays and a sure fire HOFer...and then he was a drug addict. Their stats had them HoF bound...until they weren't.

Jim Harbaugh is a damn good HC who has tasted success in both the NFL & college...but lets tap the breaks before we put him on the same pedestal as Saban and Meyer. We can project all day long...but stuff happens.

Y'all know this is a player profile and not a thread debating coaches, right?

He's still a talented body to take and be a part of this class that will probably not max out to our total 85 come NSD. Geez - take him!

So ND has commits leaving, can't get anyone to take their scholarships and is deciding it doesn't want four-star recruits? Cool.

Hope so.

Hopefully the thinking is Brooks and that's it.

3 was the original take for the class and with the new Elko/Lea's system, DJ Morgan and Spencer Perry are all they need in the tweener category.

And btw... someone tell Loy to switch his CB to MSU then or is he not allowed in the edit section without Fonger's ok?

See, I have absolutely no problem with this, if the idea is that Elko is trying to identify players that he wants for his system. At this point, I realize we'd like to add 4 star players to this class. However, I'd much rather have a 3 star LB that Elko thinks will be more productive in his system. Maybe the next Marquel Lee......

Lucky, I'd normally agree, and you have a good point, but at this stage, I'd not be turning anyone away who wants to come.

We haven't exactly seen a bevy of LB offers go out with the addition of Elko and Leas

Not to mention after looking at it we have more than enough depth at this position.

That would be fine if history under Kelly when it came to recruiting need positions wasn't "lol, we whiffed on everyone we wanted" instead of "we got exactly who we wanted and needed."

I'd be much more likely to put my life's savings on "lol, we whiffed on everyone we wanted" on signing day.

But would you rather give another schollie to a walkon or give it to Simmons? I mean let's be honest, we're not getting to 85 come fall either way.
