Considering the timing, probably means he got passed by this week in practice. That would seem to be good news for Lenzy or Keys.

Good luck to the young man wherever he ends up (as long as it isn't a rival)!

Lenzy/McKinnley appear to be primed for more reps now.

This is a bummer btw, but we have depth

Brutal. Replacing all three starters at WR next year.

Honestly, I'm ready for some new blood. WR for sure, and to an extent QB.....

Hate to see him go, but never really thought he'd be "the guy". Had an occasional flash but that's about it. Better now than to start next year I suppose.

Bring on Lenzy and Wilkins.

Well, Jordan Johnson is a lock to get significant PT next year, Lenzy looks like a game breaker, Kevin Austin is back...not a lot of hope to play I guess. Guys don't stick it out anymore, transfer portal makes it too easy.

I would assume he got passed up by and underclassmen.

I assumed he must've gotten busted doing something. But per an impeccable source, it's that he hates Chip Long's passing offense so much that he thinks he needs to make a change in order to have any chance of making it to the NFL. Crazy. Never seen a starter just quit a one loss, top ten team mid-season. But I guess we can expect more of this kind of thing with the new redshirt rules.

Also, not sure if I'm a fan of breaking a story like this. This isn't official news and he was scheduled to meet with BK Sunday. So now we have nonsense that can't be walked back on the eve of a night game at Michigan. I know Young is not happy to have this kind of speculative story out there, even if it ultimately proves to be 100% true.

Not Chips fault that the dude couldn’t stay healthy. I dont know what the official reason is, but to blame it on the passing offense is a bit wild. Dude’s barely had a chance to do much due to injury. That’s no ones fault. Will be interesting to see what the deal is.

This would make sense. He's barely targeted and has only 6 catches for 21 yards on the season, with a long of 8. Not the kind of production that's going to catch the eye of NFL scouts.

That sucks. I thought he was going to be a good one, even if he hadn’t quite popped yet.
Short-term Q: Does he play Saturday? With the injury I’m guessing he hasn’t appeared in four games yet?

To be fair I’d probably hate Chip Kong’s offense too if I was a small receiver and Book was the QB. Unless you’re Finke and inexplicably never come off the field.

lol wut?! I'll say this - replacing all three WRs next year is all the more reason to go with a new QB that has more eligibility than Book.

It's a bit odd given he would seem to have an edge to be the #1 guy next year.

Admittedly, I thought he would make more of an impact upon his return.

No chance, IMO. Gotta avoid the risk of injury.

I'll also add, eff him for wasting valuable reps for the other receivers pre-injury. Sorry, that's my #hottake here

Sounds like Lenzy just passed up Young, which is the basis of the transfer. So that's two starters to replace, one of which is Finke. Plus Kevin Austin and Jordan Johnson should be available next year. Not as bad as it seems.

Now if Kmet goes early, that would be a blow.

as mentioned above, this is most likely a sign that some of our more talented underclassmen WRs are passing him on the depth chart. Lenzy has already become a piece of the game plan, something that never really happened with Young. While the transfer out of the program is bad from a depth stand point, I prefer the elements Lenzy brings to the gameplan over that of Young. He failed to impress despite the hype he received every camp and just doesn't have any of the measurable you look for in a dynamic receiver.

Unless finke does a damn near 180 I'm really not too worried about replacing him next year. If Keys can stay healthy id expect his reps to increase in the slot as the year goes on anyways.

I definitely think we’ll miss his leadership next year but at the same time we’ll have the depth to sustain his loss, that’s if Austin does come back. Having your top 4 wr’s being Lenzy Keys Austin and JJ with solid depth with Wilkins, Watts and Brunelle is pretty good still.

Stands to believe that this would’ve happened after the Michigan game where he’d get to the 4 game threshold to maintain his redshirt before graduating. If that’s the case, and he does play, shame on Loy for trying to have the “scoop” and coming out with this before it’s official. It only hurts ND to break this scoop now right before the game.

If the team knows he’s planning to transfer immediately like the articles says he does, I doubt he would even get the choice of playing. I wouldn’t risk playing a guy that is planning to transfer immediately. Not that he would sabotage the game or anything, but maybe he just wouldn’t try as hard or avoid situations that he thinks might hurt him. He just isn’t as invested in the success of the team and might not give it his all if he’s planning to stop playing for the team.

When I saw that posted, the first thing that popped into my mind was the same as everyone else, playing time. Stating he doesn't like Long's offense is probably his polite way of saying he's not getting enough playing time.

A few got on me for my post/comment on the kid that told the coach he wasn't going to play right before kickoff because he wanted to redshirt/transfer. Not much of a difference here if true. If what Lax heard is viable, then you won't see him play tomorrow. My only beef with these situations is not sticking with it until the season is over regardless of the four game RS rule.

If the plan is to meet with BK on Sunday, I think he'll dress as nothing more than insurance if someone gets hurt.

I've been hearing about how good this kid is for the past three years and it never really showed on Saturdays. I wish him the best, but I think it has become clear that there are better options -- McKinley, Lenzy and Keys will benefit from additional reps, and those reps will result in increased production.
