ISD totally nailed this one per the usual and other stuff they didn't report and I won't call the mod out who whiffed

I don't even think he could have came to ND if he wanted too

I hear that. Kids wasn't leaving the West Coast.

So now what? All in on the kid for Maryland and Whittaker?

I want us to land Paschal but I don't know if he has the grades plus he's more of a SDE. Foster is an option as we'll but I'm not huge on him. I'm not too sure about WDE's

So Philips, Foster, possibly Paschal and Whittaker?

Does Echols all of a sudden now want to play in the NFL?? Maybe he'll have a change of heart like Snoop Dogg's son and pursue his career.

Sure wish we could've kept Beal for this class.

I don't think Notre Dame could have done anything differently with Beal to keep him in the class.

Wouldn't be surprised if both ended up at Arizona State.

I'd bet a lot of money Echols does not end up at UCLA, but I sorta doubt he ends up at ND too.

Same theory as why "I really, really care about engineering and education" Da'Shawn Hand ended up at Alabama over Virginia Tech and Michigan.

I basically don't really buy the fit of Echols at ND as much as some others. Just my opinion, could be very wrong. I was recently very wrong about our chances with Ewell.

Even when I'm right, I'm still wrong these days lol... I haven't picked a recruiting race correctly in awhile.

Christian and Matt don't feel he will choose ND in the end

Over at ISD this week, they did say something along the lines of "ND having to check in on some things." I'm not really sure what that entails but it was strange.

"Academics first" Echols didn't have the green light from admissions. His academic profile was subpar. Really don't think he was ever a fit for ND, but I'm bummed he's picking USC of all schools.

ISD definitely nailed this one, but still disappointing. Our DE recruiting is quite vexed.

We just signed 3 top 250 DE's. And it's August of the next cycle. I continue to be amazed at the short term reactions to these commitments.

Enough of your facts already. Stick to your day job.

TP called this 2 weeks ago. Said he wasn't going to nd. Kudos to him.

If we stay healthy the defense will be fine this years. We will be young at defensive back but we will have a ton of athletic bodies. We have recruited well last year at corner safety and DE and LB. and it continues into this years class. This defense in 2-3 years should be nasty!

I'm fairly optimistic about the talent level on defense for the next few years as well. A lot of eligibility from quality talent.

Maybe I should have been more specific. WDE recruiting has been quite vexed.

Yes, more specifically, we signed 2 top 250 WDE's last cycle. And once again, it's only August. Really not the end of the world yet. In fact, some services rated D. Hayes as a 5 star, so coming off a year where we signed a 5 star and 4 star at WDE, can't see why we should be jumping ship in August.

Per BGI, Echols told them that the ND staff won't let him OV while he is committed to USC. So he'd have to take an unofficial if he wanted to come. Or obviously decommit.

So they won't pay for an SC commit's OV but OSU, AZ, A&M or Miami... no problem. Hopefully that's not the full story.

It's a good way to find out if he's serious about ND or just wanting to attend a game for free with his teammate.

Makes total sense to me. If you're ND, you don't want to pay for a kid committed to your top rival to come visit for a game and talk to other recruits to try to get them to give your top rival another look in recruiting.

If he really wants to come on an official, he can show he's serious by decommitting. If he doesn't want to decommit, then he can play for USC. It's not like that's a bad outcome for him.
