Correct, it was the "west coast sources", whatever that means, that have been claiming this. Partially why everyone was so confident. Also, Mr. Graham, at one point, was all in on Thomas ending up at ND. Outside of the Barnett family crying in BK's office when he committed to ND, I'm not sure I've seen a more enthusiastic parent, when talking about their son, potentially, ending up at ND. Both from Cali, and neither ended up at ND, lol

Just hearing the stuff I heard about Barnett as a parent it wouldn't shock me if he told Blake "Blake this is where you are going to school, so march your ass into BK's office and commit right now"

I honestly don't think Taggart played that much of a role in it. There were some things that went down on ND's end and it really turned off Graham. Also distance played a factor here down the stretch as pretty much every mod has confirmed. I agree with your first couple sentences. Maybe the depth chart played a role as well? He sees Love and Vaughn pretty much starting for the next three years and I know Crawford has only played in one game and who knows how well dem knees are going to hold up but he's not giving up his job to anyone

What were these things that went down...

Also wasn't Loy the one who said he never believed Graham was a silent during the season? I thought it was him so for him to come out and say Graham has been a silent since his OV is weird to me...... but maybe I am thinking of a different site. Will have to re read the thread

No clue if he was the one. Either way, Lyght shouldn't have botched that recruitment. I think Graham is going to be a good one.

Love Grahams upside, love his length as a corner as well. I will re read the thread but I thought it was him or rivals. But rivals and recruiting info in the same sentence is hilarious

what on Earth is so bad about Lyght? is he just not charismatic enough? why can't he relate and tell the ND story and also share his experiences?

His coaching is questionable but I'm not sure if that has to do with BVG. He's only been coaching for like four years. Also his recruiting is also very questionable.

How does one botch an in-home visit? I don't understand that.

I sometimes understand when a kid visits campus and is unhappy that he didn't get to meet a certain coach. It is a game week and the coaches are working and stuff happens.

An in-home seems like it should be auto-pilot. Play it safe, do no harm, and sell the education and whatnot. Unless he hit on the kid's mom, it is baffling that an in-home could blow up a recruitment

Lyght just to me seems more suited with the pro game. i could see how he could have trouble relating to kids who don't match his personality.

he has such a flat affect...he is NOT charismatic or have enthusiastic....that doesn't work for kids...that's why the used car salesman coaches like tosh, coach meat etc are able to get kids to commit..............he isn't cut out for this aspect of the game...and it is painful watch during interviews

Let's not throw Lyght under the bus just yet - I want to see what he can do with a class of 6 DBs in their second year, and without shitty BVG as his coach.

I will say this though, listening to the ISD podcasts, and they interviewed Denson right before Lyght, and Denson was way more exciting/fun to listen to. But Denson's also one of a kind too, but that transition was noticeable.

not throwing him under the bus...just pointing out he has been a liability personality wise on the recruiting end

i noticed in that interview also he was bashing a recruit from arizona. just the overall tone was negative, as if he believed pandering to recruits is pathetic (which is probably is). you just can't succeed in CFB with that attitude. Denson was indeed night and day in his outlook.

IMO Denson wants to help kids, Lyght only wants to work with "winners"

What interview are you talking about? I watched the interview he did during the ND feed, and he sounded completely fine there, but I didn't see anything on ISD. I must have completely missed it.

I agree with all of this. I thought Lyght did a pretty good job coaching up some of the young DBs this year.

Also, Denson is dynamic -- ND needs to hold on to him for as long as possible. Great hire by Kelly.

Lyght is a no nonsense guy who is pretty focused. That is all.

I think Lyght got totally screwed, last year in particular. BVG obviously hated him, they apparently conflicted often. Sometimes I think these people in the media pick up bad juju from stuff like this and just keep rebroadcasting it.

This year on the other hand, Lyght is specifically working with the corners. Elko is taking the safeties. Now, before anyone calls that proof that Lyght is a deficient coach, Elko's safeties play much different than BVG's would have if they ever had a clue of what he wanted.

My point is that is how you install a new (different) defense, and that is how you bring a young (inexperienced) coach along.

We talk about young players having to drink out of a firehose. I expect that as far as coaching, that is true of inexperienced coaches, too. I think Elko, and Lea are the perfect guys to bring Lyght along. Because Lyght does know football. That much is clear!

Not every coach has to be a good recruiter, but if a coach is not a good recruiter he better be an elite coach. I think the term for being a below average coach and a bad recruiter is "Vangordering."

Elko is a DB coach at heart and a good recruiter. He won't let Lyght hang around if his coaching is subpar.

Elko is a DB coach at heart and a good recruiter. He will guide Lyght into becoming a competent coach and at least an above average recruiter.

FIFY

That's Elko's way man. He has the aura.
