His dad was a 6-3, 245 LB in the NFL so I would guess this kid has the frame to put on plenty of weight.

Desert Ridge's Jalen Harris follows father's football legacy to Arizona

He was instrumental in Desert Ridge's run to the Division I final with 21.5 sacks and 31 quarterback hurries.

Coach Jeremy Hathcock has said that Harris could play wide receiver in college. Last season, he was the Jaguars' primary target, catching 50 passes for 757 yards and five touchdowns.

Hathcock said that Harris wasn't swayed by his father to pick UA.

Wonder how much influence coach has though:
"He went to all of our summer stuff and visited the schools, did the right homework," Hathcock said. "ASU was right there. He really liked Colorado a lot. Don't get me wrong. He had a good time at Oregon and Oregon State and Washington State. One thing I like is that he is staying close to home."

Also mentions his freshman brother is already bigger than him and will be a big time football and basketball recruit.

Saw Harris play against Mountain Pointe, AZ's 2nd best team this year and he didn't stand out. I was surprised when they started following him last month, that's when I realized I saw him play. He could very well be a good player, though his overall stats aren't very impressive. Looking at them, he had 1200 yds receiving over the last two years so he's been going both ways. He did have 70 tkls his junior year.

I would have gone after Odua Isibor first or at least simultaneously. He's completely undervalued by the services. He's also a smart Catholic kid, playing at a Catholic school. The US Army Bowl got it right by inviting him. I'll have to look it up but I think he had 120 tkls... an absolute ton for a lineman playing real competition. Super motor. I saw him all over the place against Saguaro, the best team in AZ, they're as loaded and well coached as any public school in the country. Also saw him destroy Cactus Shadows.

This is his junior film:

Had no idea Jason Harris was his brother. Kids gonna chose between UK, Duke, Zona, UCLA, wherever. He's that kid. Small world.

Looked through some old bookmarked folders on AZ football and the stats listed there back up Maxpreps almost identically.

Sr year: 10g ... Def. ... 34 Tkl ... 3.0 TFL ... 8.5 Sk ----- Off. ... 36 rec ... 517 yd ... 6 TD

Jr year: 14g ... Def. ... 70 Tkl ... 5.5 TFL ... 17.5 Sk ---- Off. ... 50 rec ... 757 yd ... 5 TD

I watched his junior film and there's no doubt he has serious burst. As a fluid 2 way athlete, he's in the Claypool category.

He was recruited by U of A assistant Charlie Ragle, who was Davonte Neal's HS coach at Scottsdale Chaparral. Not sure if Long or Alexander will have any sway over him... and he's a legacy to boot.

If staff offered him I'm sure he's worth it. The thing I worry about his size is that a lot of his success comes from his speed and I worry that a guy like him will lose a bunch of that speed/quickness once he gains the necessary weight. I'm sure staff is more than aware of this and taken it into consideration.

Why would he lose speed/quickness? He simply will be growing into his body. He'll likely be bigger, stronger, faster.

It really blows me away that so many people assume adding weight equals losing speed and quickness. Yet, we see really fast combine times, where all those players are significantly bigger than they were as 17-18 year old prospects.

Bet you Jake Butt's current 40 time isn't as fast as his Senior in hs time

I wasn't assuming he'd lose speed. I just said it worries me as it does happen sometimes.

I have a feeling this kid is one of the flip candidates per Loy. I'm predicting he flips to ND on the weekend that he visits.

With the struggles of WR recruting this year, Tory Hunter leaving to play baseball and Corey Holmes transfering, sign this could up as a WR.

As a DE he reminds me of the Irvin kid from West Virginia, who was selected in the first round by the Seahawks. Bruce Irvin played at 235 lbs soaking wet in college.

Better to start with speed and quickness than hope to develop it isn't it? Really don't understand this line of thinking.

Some of the gurus can set me straight but it seems to me a quick twitch athlete is different. You either have it or you don't. Can't coach speed and quickness.

Actually there are some speed drills/training things that are out there that you can teach and work on, however, quickness/change of direction is not something that one can easily be taught. You are right there, you either have it, or you don't.
