Some fun facts... Episcopal and Woodberry Forrest (where Prosise and Randolph went) are big time football rivals. They've played 100+ games I think. But they're in different conferences, Episcopal is in the IAC which is a DC Metro area private school league.

The IAC which is one the very top lacrosse conferences in the country with Landon, Georgetown Prep, Bullis, etc. Their football is no slouch either. ND target Dwayne Haskins plays for Bullis. In general, you're talking about extremely exclusive and elite boarding schools with high achieving students... while you'll surely have your Chris Clarks of the world that don't fit the ND mold, these are good schools to be recruiting when looking for fit. Many are Catholic, and I think all are religious (except maybe Bullis, but I think they're nondenominational or something if I'm remembering correctly).

In general, it'd be good to see ND try harder to tap into the IAC, MIAA, and WCAC. There are a LOT of good players to be had and the only "local" competition is Maryland. The only "extended" local competition is Penn State, Virginia Tech, and UVA. If kids are looking for a driveable school with elite football tradition ND and Ohio State and Michigan are basically their only options.

Is the IAC good at football now? I know Landon is a traditional Lacrosse powerhouse--the absolute bet for a while--and the other schools have their occasional studs, but has the league generally picked up its game?

I agree wholeheartedly on the strategy, though. Gilman and McDonough in Baltimore (MIAA) are two schools they should be hitting much harder.

Football is coming along. At one point, Georgetown Prep was kicked out of the IAC for being "too serious" about football... but then there was a paradigm shift in the last couple years and now everyone seems to be taking it more seriously. Bullis is probably by far the best football school in the conference right now. They have a couple 3-stars or better in each recruiting class. But now that it's not basically "prohibited" to try hard at football, you're going to see the talent level go way up.

I agree with you on the Gilman/McDonough. The Washington Catholic Athletic Conference is interesting because we have dabbled a little in recruiting it (Devin Butler and Ashton White come to mind) but we don't really recruit it hard. Last year Gonzaga alone had multiple 4-stars including a ND legacy that went to Alabama and we barely recruited that school.

Just private schools in the DMV here is what the talent distribution looked like in 2015:
4:s:+ - 4
3:s: - 39

That's decent. When you factor in the public schools (or include the private schools that are a bit more south into Virginia) it gets pretty crazy. One of the main reasons people think Penn State can be successful is their proximity to this talent and the talent in New Jersey + their home grown Pennsylvania players.

For early 2016 you get:
4:s:+ - 18
3:s: - 21

So that's a pretty ridiculous concentration of talent in just the private high schools for this cycle. You're talking about basically a top 5 class worth of talent with just the 4-stars + a couple 3s in the PRIVATE high schools of the DC area.

I have to believe nobody (including ND) pushed hard for this guy except Rutgers.

Or his training program in Canada has links to Rutgers, including a current player he will now be teammates with and he was originally committed to Rutgers out of HS. It’s one year, he goes somewhere he’s comfortable and is still playing Big Ten Football which with a good season can lead to getting drafted.
