My apologies to the board. I did post what was said so someone with strong inside contacts could check. Talked with everyone this morning to see if I could get a screenshot and there was nothing to find. I am going to assume it was drunk frustration due to the shoulder injury and things were taken out of context. I would never post to start rumors and gossip. I should have waited until I saw the tweet before posting here. Thanks again Lax for following up. Glad to know it isn't true as I believe he has great potential.

Yeah hopefully he stays. He played well as a freshman, plus I think we will need the depth even if he isn't 100%

If dad says Vaughn said he's transferring then I consider it gospel. EVERYTHING dad's ever told me turned out to be 100.

My gut feeling (I have no inside information) is that Donte won't make a decision to stay or transfer until after Spring Practice. He has a legitimate chance to start or to log more minutes. However, if he gets passed up on the depth chart in the Spring by one of the younger guys, the chances of a transfer increase substantially. You can't blame a guy for wanting to play.

Honestly I think ND would be better off having some OL transfers out. Appear to be really deep there. I would rather keep Donte overthe likes of Dillan Gibbons if push comes to shove.

Plenty of other guys to choose from instead of Gibbons. He's your first true OG off the bench right now and depending on a shuffle with Banks or Lugg, could be the next guy in at OG for '19.

Either way, I would much rather keep Vaughn and lose someone else. . . .

Notre Dame cornerback
Who's out: Julian Love
Who's in: Donte Vaughn, TaRiq Bracy
Concern level: High

The Irish got a taste of life without their star corner in the Cotton Bowl, in which Love departed with an injury and Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence utterly shredded Vaughn in Love's absence. For all the talk of a blowout in that game, it isn't hard to envision a much closer affair if Love had been on the field. Luckily for the Irish, they won't be facing Lawrence again anytime soon, but they led Power 5 programs, allowing just 5.35 yards per pass in the regular season last year, and that's going to be a tough number to match without Love on the field. Meanwhile, it's fair to ask how much damage was done to Vaughn's psyche during the Cotton Bowl, which could open the door for Bracy or someone such as Houston Griffith, who played nickel last season, to step up instead.

With the starters today per the 247 podcast. Griffith #2

I could see a rotation of a different starter each day during the first two weeks of camp opposite Pride. Today was Vaughn. Tomorrow Houston. Tuesday Crawford. Etc.

I’d agree. Kelly mentioned that they were going to give Crawford a chance to win one of the CB positions which probably means they haven’t settled on who is opposite Pride.

I definitely don't believe it's settled but I'll take any vbets that Vaughn is the opposite starter.

Likely red shirting the rest of this year.

https://247sports.com/college/notre...ms-On-Hold-New-Nickel-To-Be-Tested-136626613/

And they might do the same for an oft-injured senior on the other side of scrimmage. Asked Sunday if Donte Vaughn might watch the bulk of the season’s final two months rather than participate, Kelly offered, “That is something that we are considering, yes. As it sits right now he’s played in three games so we want to be strategic as we move forward in that fourth game.
“We think he brings a lot of value to our football team and we’re not going to play him unless we absolutely have to put him on the field. So we can have that potential conversation when we get to four games.”

A couple weeks back, while others were worrying about DB spots for next year, Freeman mentioned that the staff has a good grasp of its future roster. Somewhat cryptic but I took it to mean there might be guys coming back that we might not have previously thought about. Sounds like this could be one of them. A healthy Vaughn would be a big addition to next year. He’d also have one year to showcase for the NFL.

I'm kinda surprised they're in the position to redshirt Vaughn.

Somebody posted on the rivals board that he may not, it just depends on injury. They said he will play against USC and the bowl game.

Does he have to?

No, seriously, I hope this all works out. Barring more injuries, he's not going to play enough to be a difference maker for us this season. But we could really use his experience next year.

BK mentioned in his presser today that Donte will definitely play on Saturday against Michigan. That effectively ends the redshirt talk for him.

Possibly. This will be his 4th game that he will see action. The red shirt or not will depend on health of Crawford the rest of the way in my opinion.

Based on ND's game participation chart, he's already played in four this season: New Mexico, Georgia, Virginia, and USC.

Donte would be a welcome addition to the 2020 defensive backfield, but I think his length is important matching up with Michigan's receivers, even if Crawford is a go. I'll make that trade-off.

UND.com 2019 Season Stats list Vaughn as playing in 4 games: NM, UGA, UVA, USC.

Under the Total Tackles Game By Game table, Vaughn is also listed as playing against the above 4 teams. He is listed for the NM and BG games as DNP.

On his radio program, Eric Hansen mentioned something about there being an error and that Vaughn actually didn’t play in the Georgia game at all. Basically he surmised that Michigan will actually be his fourth game. TIFIW.

Correct. There are a few other who also mentioned this error after looking into it. This should be his 4th game. If it wasn't I think BK would have just said he can no longer RS once he plays Sat, but he didn’t. That’s why I feel like it all depends on CB health going forward.

He would? As is more than just a warm body on the depth chart? I dunno about that...

Considering ND is bringing back untested talent and there is not a day 1 starter from the 2020 class, I would say he would be most welcomed back.

I've always leaned that way on Vaughn. However, two plays give me a little hope. One, the first TD in the Clemson game. He was there step for step and made a play on the ball, receiver just made a better play. Two, 2nd and goal against Pittman he had proper technique and made a nice play on the back shoulder fade.

Honestly, those two things make me think if he's in the right spot, he's got better ball skills than Pride. Maybe he can be helpful to us the rest of this season. Time will tell.

Would you rather have one of the 3* true freshman playing next year or a 5th year veteran playing as a depth guy? Seems like a very obvious choice to me.

DB (15 Scholarships)
RS SR Alohi Gilman (likely leaving)
RS SR Shaun Crawford (likely leaving)
RS SR Donte Vaughn
RS JR Isaiah Pryor (guessing he’s coming)
JR Houston Griffith
JR Tariq Bracy
RS SO DJ Brown
SO Kyle Hamilton
RS FR KJ Wallace
RS FR Isaiah Rutherford
RS FR Cam Hart
RS FR Litchfield Ajavon
FR Caleb Offord
FR Landen Bartleson
FR Clarence Lewis

Crawford and Gilman are very likely to leave according to II. Isaiah Pryor is bringing his whole family right back to the next home game and I think he’s almost a shoe-in to come to ND. As far as CB goes you probably have...

RS SR Donte Vaughn
JR Tariq Bracy
RS FR KJ Wallace
RS FR Isaiah Rutherford
RS FR Cam Hart
FR Caleb Offord
FR Landen Bartleson
FR Clarence Lewis

I’d guess one of those freshman ends up at safety but for now I put them at CB. After Bracy it’s gonna be a lot of first and second year players so I’d obviously much rather see Donte Vaughn in there for insurance purposes next season. ND doesn’t have any Kyle Hamilton’s coming in right now so it’s important to have impact depth at CB. I’d prefer to see Donte for next season than a push to a NY6 bowl this season. If someone goes down with a season-ending injury in 2019 then that changes everything but ND needs depth at DB which they’ve been lacking this year big time.

That is encouraging, hope you're right.
