Mendelson is Quinn's assistant OL coach now that Chris Watt moved onto the Head OL gig at Tulane. He's a Marshall alum and an Ohio guy and just moved over from Richmond University in May... Pretty nice timing/connection there for landing Madden

He did. He said something like "I don't know that ND would have a place for him" which I thought was weird, given all the accolades that have been showered on Madden and the fact that he said that post-Gibbons' transfer.

I didn't understand how or why they couldn't find a place for basically the best available OL transfer in CFB. I could have misinterpreted what he meant, but it seemed like he felt Madden wasn't good enough.

That's because the rest of the deal's terms haven't been revealed. Speculation is the Gibbons/Madden trade

I no longer have any concerns about OL. Patterson/Madden will be a stout left side. With Mayer at TE next to Patterson ND will have one of the best strong sides in the country IMO.

Same reason why McGlinchey didn't go pro a year earlier and came back. Now he gets to improve his draft stock at power 5 level competition, maybe go a round or two earlier than he would have, and also get the opportunity to get a grad degree from a great school

Great pick up by the Irish and nice to add some experience to our offensive line with what they lost to the draft. Seems like a lot of posters see Fisher or Spindler starting, I'd be OK with both sitting this year to be ready for next year unless if they win the job.

I just watched offensive film vs. Rice and he was very assignment sound. He doesn't look very smooth getting to the 2nd level but he gets there on schedule. He has a POWERFUL punch and puts dudes in the dirt. He does looks like he gets winded easily, loses technique, and relys on his strength. I wish he was Irish at the beginning of spring to give Balis more time with him. I think he can be an Aaron Banks level player for us this year if he can clean some things up.

I was just thinking the same thing before I came to this thread. A full Spring with Balis could be a game changer.
