And to be clear, I don't think BW starting this game will be an issue for us. But he's not Book in any game or weather condition.
Kelly said in the Observer that Book will be ready to go by next week. Take it for what it's worth...

And when it comes to running the ball Book is no Wimbush. Last time I ch Cyd Wimbush was money in the red zone last year and holds ND record to most rushing TD’s. This should b a ground and pound day which we need to boost Olines confidence. I also don’t see BW sliding into the first down and coming up short. He should play QB likes were running the wildcat.
BTW worst QB = Sharpley.
Sharpley was screwed by Weis trying to install a spread option offense in 2 weeks for Jones that lasted for a quarter. Most people say Sharpley should have just been the QB from the beginning until Clausen took over for him. He really wasn't bad, he was fucked.
Also if you're saying Sharpley is the worst, do you forget Dillingham? Lovecchio? Hendrix? Nate Montana?
Hmm. Just listened to II podcast and all three cited their best source respectively who told them Book will be out for Syracuse.
Yeah, Idk. Teams always outperform their standard vs. us. FSU should be easy, but I think we find a way to make it difficult, and I think that reason is BW. I think his win/loss record is more in spite of him than because of him. I mean, shit, I'd love to be wrong, but he's probably the worst QB we've had since Crist got a few starts. Eh, maybe Malik. Idk. Toss up for me. End of the day, I hope I'm wrong, but I'd be lying if I said I'm entirely confident our playoff bubble won't burst on Saturday. Go Irish.
Remember when Brandon Wimbush beat what is regarded as the best defense in the Country? He is better than Malik, On par with Golson, Total QBR better than Tommy. Your hot take is way off on him being the worst QB since Crist.
Whoa, that's crazy talk. He's nowhere near the train wreck that was Dayne Crist. Every win last season, minus Navy, we scored over 35 points. UNC was 33 with Book starting. Wimbush was responsible for 30 touchdowns and only 6 interceptions. I think he had about 3 fumbles caused by getting sacked. Wimbush was about as solid as they come before November. I was truly baffled on how he went from being very good IMO to sucking almost overnight.

Not buying it...... Im not saying Book will deff play vs Cuse, but i fully believe that NO ONE has made a decision yet. Too much time in between to have already decided.
Think you missed my argument. I was replying to the guy bashing Wimbush
Brian Kelly fed the rumor mill Thursday night during his post-practice meeting with the media, but shared important details earlier in the day on starting quarterback Ian Book's injury with Notre Dame's student newspaper in an exclusive interview.
The most significant of which that he shared with The Observer was that Book’s rib injury didn’t involve an internal injury and that it isn’t expected to linger into next week’s matchup with 13th-ranked Syracuse at Yankee Stadium.
The No. 3 Irish (9-0) host Florida State (4-5) Saturday night at Notre Dame Stadium (7:20 EST; NBC-TV) in the season’s final home game. Demoted senior starter Brandon Wimbush will make his first start since Sept. 15. Book will not play for precautionary reasons, Kelly told The Observer.
“He got kneed,” Kelly said of the Book injury that occurred during the first quarter of last Saturday’s 31-21 win at Northwestern last Saturday night. “This is really much more of a rib injury. But as you know, when we’re talking about a rib injury, there’s a grade that can go from broken ribs to bruised ribs to internal injuries.
“So from this perspective, if he had severe kidney issues, that’s four to six weeks. We’re not dealing with that. … We think he’ll be prepared to play next week.''
ISD freebie below. nothing new if you watched the PC, read the Observer article, or listened to the radio show...., but BK IMO is pretty clear.

Why Is no one pointing out what a dirty play the kneeing of Book was? The guy literally went out of his way to make sure his knee landed in Book's ribs and I've read or heard nothing to the fact.
Sorry, I don't buy it that it's not an internal injury also. The first bolded line is the Observer's interpretation of what BK said. But the actual quote from BK (the 2nd bolded line) doesn't say that it's not an internal injury. Instead he said that it's not a severe kidney issue that would require him to be out 4 to 6 weeks. It doesn't mean that he still has a mild kidney issue that would require additional rest.
BK is an expert at political speak.
We've entered into full koon territory if we're dissecting single pics to predict future performances.
If it's a grade 1 (which is what's out there), it's two weeks. Which means the other reports that Book is out vs Cuse is hogwash. Not saying he doesn't have what is more or less a slightly bruised kidney. Only saying that the doom and gloom in the II podcast is likely not reality.
and, here's a pic from 3 days ago at practice. not sure he'd be in a helmet if a) the injury was bad, or 2) going to keep him out vs Cuse

Hypothetically, if the doctors told BK that there is a 20% chance that he would be ready for Syracuse, I would fully expect BK to say that he is expecting Book to be back for Syracuse, knowing that he could always change it later on saying that the kidney didn't progress as well as they hoped.
Bottom line is that I don't think it's guaranteed that he will be back for Syracuse and I'm also guessing it's not guaranteed that he will be out. The answer is probably someplace in between.
All that picture shows me is that NDs helmets prior to the SC game in 2011 looked like steaming piles of dog poop

He literally says in the quote "That's not what we're dealing with."
It's a rib injury. Maybe he has a minor kidney injury, but it doesn't sound like anything that won't heal up by next Saturday.
Kelly is very good at coach speak, but this isn't the case of "coach speak". If Kelly was simply trying to keep things vague for the sake of it, he wouldn't word his comments the way he did. If he were to use coachspeak he'd say something along the lines of "He's day to day, we'll see what happens." or "We're not eliminating the possibility he could be back next week."
And to be fair, Kelly has been pretty spot-on with his injury reports. He said Tranquill was dealing with an ankle but would play. Tranquill was dealing with an ankle and he played. Mack was in concussion protocol and was out. Mack was out. So far, MTA is staying true to the timetable that Kelly set.
Seems like if everything progresses as it's expected to, he'll be all set to go next week. Maybe needs some additional padding.
I understand that you may be right on the remaining portion of your post, but the bolded I have to disagree with. He literally said "That's not what we're dealing with" was made in reference to a severe kidney injury that would require him to be out 4 to 6 weeks.
