You are not alone. I know it's a terrible train of thought, but it seems the proof has been in the pudding for the most part.

Can I admit something, maybe I'm not the only one,... when I open a recruiting thread and it's a defender and the stars are all fours and fives, I tend to immediately think, "no shot"...

Thats a total of 15 or an average of 5 (4 star or better players) over the last 3 years on D. Hardly how you guys are portraying it.

If this Caleb wasn't from the capital of Western Oklahoma (Fresno) I'd love ND's chances. He's a solid young man, a Notre Dame level young man.
It'd be a shame for him to follow the others from Fresno to Norman. If the NFL doesn't set him up for life, that degree most likely is not going to get him far unless he has a great career and stays in Oklahoma. No thanks..
This is what I like to call sour grapes. We, as fans of Notre Dame, should be way above this. ND isn't for everyone. If he likes OU then he can go there, play high level college football, and still earn a meaningful degree.

And how many of those guys were consensus 4*+ players out of HS? That was what the post I replied to said. Not an individual service. Not composite. Consensus.

What, so now it's only good enough if they are consensus and the composite doesn't count? Even Acamp chose to elaborate his post instead of go further down this rabbit hole. You win we'll never get a good defensive recruit again.
Fresno (Calif.) Clovis West five-star outside linebacker Caleb Kelly talked about his official visit to Oregon and upcoming trip plans...
Fresno (Calif.) Clovis West five-star linebacker Caleb Kelly took his second official visit this past weekend, taking a trip to Oregon.
"It was fun," said Kelly. "I liked going up there and I liked it up there. I didn't know too much about Oregon before I went but I went up with an open mind and I enjoyed it."
Kelly was hosted by Gary Baker on the visit and also hung out with the other official visitors.
"I hung out with Lamar (Winston) and Dillon Mitchell and we hung out a lot with the Poly guys there," said Kelly. "All the players and coaches really care for each other there."
Kelly got to talk with defensive coordinator Don Pellum and outside linebackers coach Erik Chinander as well as head coach Mark Helfrich.
"I talked to Coach Pellum and Coach Chinander a lot and I talked to Coach Helfrich a little bit," said Kelly. "They showed me both inside and outside but they said they want me as an outside guy. They said they need impact linebackers, that they've always had at least one and how I could come in and play early."
Like most visitors to Oregon, Kelly was impressed by the Ducks' facilities.
"The facilities, of course, they're the best I've seen and top of the line," said Kelly. "Everything is brand new and they're building new stuff. I knew going in it would be like that but then seeing it was really coo. They're building a new equipment room and a new sports science place."
Kelly has two more official visits set, to Oklahoma on November 21st when the Sooners host TCU and to Notre Dame on December 11th.
He had planned to visit Texas in early November, but that visit appears very unlikely.
In its place will likely be a trip to Alabama on November 7th when the Tide hosts LSU.
"It doesn't look like I'll visit Texas and I think I'm going to try and visit Alabama the 7th of November for LSU. It's not officially set yet, but if I do visit that weekend, it will be an official visit. We just have to line it up with Coach Tosh (Lupoi)," said Kelly.
Oklahoma has been all over Kelly for some time- they were his first offer, and he's eager to visit Norman.
"I'm hearing from all the coaches there, Coach (Bob) Stoops, Coach (Tim) Kish, Coach (Mike) Stoops, Courtney Viney," said Kelly. "And then Michiah Quick and Hatari Byrd are all over me. They're definitely recruiting me the hardest."
Notre Dame will get what's expected to be Kelly's last visit in mid-December.
"Coach (Mike) Denbrock is recruiting me and while they don't have a game when I go out, it will still be a fun visit," said Kelly.
But Michigan is also making a big push for Kelly and he still raves about his official visit there.
"Oregon was a different kind of visit than Michigan," said Kelly. The fans were crazy and they have a lot of tradition there. When I was at Michigan, they all knew who I was and everywhere I went, they were like "Go to MIchigan, Go to Michigan".
Kelly scored two touchdowns at tight end in Clovis West's last game and he wouldn't be opposed to some offense in college, even though he rarely brings it up.
"But my mom does," said Kelly. "She loves seeing me score touchdowns. When we were on our visits, she told the coaches about my touchdowns. I would never turn down the opportunity, but I'm not pushing for it. Offense is more for fun, but defense is where my passion is."
Kelly has been selected to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, and though all of his official visits will be done by the Army Bowl, a decision is unlikely until Signing Day.
"I think I'm going to wait until Signing Day and announce then and then use January for in-home visits," said Kelly.
Huh, I didn't even realize he was still interested in rhe Irish
We can pitch to both that they can play together at Notre Dame and probally get playing time right away. Fuller could start at Safety next year, Kelly could easily be a guy who makes an impact.
I seriously doubt Fuller would start at safety. Upperclassmen will always get the nod over underclassmen if they are available. Its BK's MO.
He could pitch possible playing time but considering the other young guns we have at FS and SS, Fuller would have to pick up BVGs scheme and beat out upperclassman who have already grasped it.
We will have Sebastian and Redfield available as true starter potential, probably Drue (hopefully) taking Farley's position, Ashton White and Williams could all see time at Safety.

Very difficult for a true starter at mlb or safety. Takes time to learn angles/keys
By that logic, that would imply that a frosh would never start, assuming there was someone else at that position. Which, is simply not true.I seriously doubt Fuller would start at safety. Upperclassmen will always get the nod over underclassmen if they are available. Its BK's MO.
