The worst part of all this is that people are gonna act like Sark is some ace recruiter... meanwhile with the exception of Gustin, everyone one of these kids might as well have committed to SC right out of the womb.

Well, Tee Martin is easily one the best recruiters in the nation. And Sark can recruit SoCal because he was born and raised here. Aside from USC being able to recruit itself, they do have some all star recruiters, most notably Tee Martin.

They did pull the two best players out of Utah. They pulled two RB's from TX and an OT from ATL. So it was not only Gustin. Not sure I agree with your sediment that all of their players would have committed aside from Gustin.

I give them credit because them keeping Tee Martin from Alabama last year was huge. He essentially turned down Alabama to stay at USC. Whoever convinced him to stay deserves credit because he puts in work and can coach WRs up too. I would not be surprised if Clay Helton leaves and Tee Martin becomes OC. When Sark was at UW he stole Tosh Lupoi from Cal and while sleezy as he is, he can recruit (and burn bridges). I think now Tosh Lupoi was hired at Alabama as an intern so we shall see what happens there.

In a Reddit AMA(Ask Me Anything) on r/cfb today Mike Farrell answered Gustin when asked who has the most upside in the class. Compared him to Urlacher. So thats fun.

IMO he should have gone to the UofU... would have shined like Paul Kruger...now he'll be another guy on the field at USC.

Guys that are ..."just another guy on the field at USC" still go in the first round. Now he gets to play in the spotlight and for championships on top of that.

Who from USC, being just a contributor on defense, got drafted in the first round?

Sure, there are associative benefits from being on a championship team as a contributor, but none which land you in the first round...at least that I've seen.

This kid is good. His size and performance would guarantee he became a centerpiece to the Utah defense, thus developing and showcasing skills every week likely from the moment he walked in campus. I'd choose that. Virtually the same schedule as SC, similar exposure.

USC does have an advantage in that the level of competition he will face every day may help him become a better all around ball player, but he won't make an impact until year 3 at USC...in year 4 he may be comparatively better...but he'd be playing Sundays in year 4 if he went to the UofU.

Kind of the opposite of how we think it usually goes but after his OV to ND we were basically ruled out. It wasn't for him.

It happens. Notre Dame is not for everyone.

agree...rather this than have him come and have ND be "Lynched". I like kids who are able to stand up and say ... Nope, don't want to "shop on that aisle". I respect him a ton...

Now he has to be dead to me...:)

I'm glad we pushed spirituality, with him finally landing in the Bible Belt buckle of Hedonism, err USC.

Let's see..........Party central without a lot of academic demands and can concentrate on football vs. True student athlete who has to make the grades, study and the beach is 2,000 miles away.

And ultimately end up back on probation in the near future.

It's a free for all out there. No one is scared of the NCAA anymore. Sanctions like the ones placed on USC will be the last of its kind placed on a major NCAA football program for awhile. IMO.

Gustin is a beast, and I am jealous of a ton of USC's talent (especially Iman Marshall), but its hard for me to believe that Gustin is not juicing up. Some kids are just huge, no doubt, but he just has that look.

This has nothing to do with sour grapes. I know we had our share back in the day (if we do now, they need a better supplier!).

Hopefully, I am completely wrong.

Those pics of Clay Matthews when he was at USC was enough to know something was going on.

I think you are completely wrong. If you look at pictures of Porter with his dad (a scholarship athlete back in the day) it still looks like he can curb stomp Porter. Sounds like sour grapes to me. If he has his dad's genetics he may grow even more.

I think Porter is the guy we missed on that the greatest number of members wanted badly. I can't believe this thread hasn't been mothballed yet!

Then what does it have to do with anything? What would you say about a kid like Tristen Hoge, Alize Jones, Quentin Nelson, Andrew Trumbetti, Romeo Okwara, or Greg Bryant. All of them were heavily muscled coming out of high school. Kids these days start lifting earlier and adhere to strict diet and supplement plans. Sure, there are some kids out there that juice, but unless they fail a piss test why even bring it up? If he had signed with ND I doubt anything would have been said.

3 players for 3 positions? Even if there is someone keeping one of them off the field, Gustin or Masina could both grow into DEs. If they're unhappy with playing time it will likely be caused by their own lack of development - not numbers.

I know its not sour grapes, because I know I don't care.

However, I will agree that it was wrong to say. I just think he looks the part, like Clay Matthews and the Boz. That does not mean I should have said it.

I have been wrong before but what are the chances of a mormon kid juicing? Its kind of a big deal what they put in their bodies. I have to think he was serious about taking his mission as well so I find it difficult to claim that.

Everything I'm seeing here, is the kid is ready for a breath of fresh air away from his constraints with religion.

Which is what I think hurt us at ND.

I also heard this from my best source on all matters ND.

Think about it: USC.
