That would be my choice. Can't wait to see if JOK can match his highlight film.

I saw this from Wiltfong earlier and it made me think how crazy the defense could be if Simon or JOK can really take over the Rover spot and let Drue go to Buck. The versatility of having three of those guys on the field at the same time is awesome to think about.

A few things going in favor of JOK over Simon at Rover in '18.

- He has a year in the system.

- He was tutored by both Lea and Elko, Simon won't get that.

- Simon is not an EE

If Simon starts, I'll be amazed.

What about JGH at rover? He looked pretty stout in there against LSU. Or is more a strong safety?

Not trying to "hot take" this thread, but I think this kid has the potential to be more impactful than any linebacker in the BK era. Yes, I realize what I'm saying.

I'm with you. He's not quite the tackle machine Teo was, and not the transcendent talent that Jaylon was, but he's in a system that will allow him to excel while also being a hugely important piece for continuity's sake.

I think the biggest thing in Coney's favor in terms of "impact" is that Jaylon was largely wasted by BVG in '14 and '15. Joe Schmidt was so *crucial* to the success of the defense that Jaylon was constantly covering for him, and BVG wasn't able/refused to get creative with Jaylon's responsibilities.

If Jaylon had a decent MLB next to him in '14 and '15, and/or an actual defensive coordinator, he would have gone down as a top-5 college LB of all time. THAT is a hot take, and I truly believe it.

What about JGH at rover? He looked pretty stout in there against LSU. Or is more a strong safety?

Most of the experts seem to believe that JGH will be a starting safety, along with Gilman, and that Derrik Allen will take over for one of them once he's brought up to speed.

Not sure what position everyone would end up at for this to work, but I'd love to see Jonathan Jones start at LB. He was highly rated and many schools wanted him IIRC, and in the small sample size we have on him, he loves to hit and you can feel his passion for the game.

I think if either of the Jones boys was going to start, it would be Jamir. More reps than Jonathan Jones got, and more evidence on tape that he can lay the wood at a high level.

If either were to start, though, it means Tranquill stays at Rover.

If it were Jamir, Coney plays MIKE and Jamir plays BUCK.

If it were Jonathan, Coney plays BUCK and Jonathan plays MIKE.

I think BUCK and MIKE were obviously pretty easy transitions between one another, though, so not sure it would matter too much in the end. The big piece would just be Tranquill staying at Rover.

The depth is great. With the grueling schedule, rotating players to keep them from breaking down later in the season will be crucial.

Kind of a duh statement, I know.

Can we put Coney and Tillery under the commits on the front page and put them down as 6 stars :)

It probably comes down to who can play at a higher level, the next in line ILB behind Tranquill/Coney or the next in line Rover behind Tranquill. Because, we aren't going to keep Tranquill at Buck if we don't have a Rover that can get the job done, if we have a Mike/Buck combo that is better. The good news is we have two camps to get this figured out.

It would be a perfect situation for finding answers if Simon were an EE.

They'll start to figure it out in the Spring, but then Simon will throw the LB position battles/decisions a curveball if he shows up and grasps the defense quickly.

Yea, Simon might have the most to gain from EE'ing. As Crusader said, I think it's virtually impossible Simon starts from day 1 at Rover, without EE'ing. Though I love him as a prospect.

Impossible for a non-EE rover to start day 1?

We're going to have a QB do it...

Didn't know where to put this, but I figured this would be the best place.

Manipulated video clip

Manipulated video clip

The original clip was shown this AM on the national news, and showed the Philly fan running alongside the train and into a pole. Someone manipulated the image to remove the pole and insert an ND football player.

FREEBIE found in link above:

Notre Dame senior linebacker Te’von Coney will face an Aug. 1 bench trial in Fulton County Superior Court after a plea agreement was withdrawn in a 2016 marijuana possession case against him.

Coney’s lead attorney Rodolfo Sigifredo Monterrosa Jr. said he couldn’t comment on the case, saying only that it’s an “old case” and that Coney has never been sentenced. Fulton County Prosecutor Michael Marrs’ office referred News-Sentinel.com to the court documents.

Coney was a full participant througout the spring practices and participated in the annual Blue-Gold game in late April. As of today, Coney is expected to compete for the Fighting Irish throughout the 2018 season, his final year of eligibility.

The case seems to stem from the misdemeanor charge from an incident in which Coney was in a vehicle with a group of Fighting Irish players when it was stopped by police the evening of Aug. 19, 2016. As a result, former Notre Dame safety Max Redfield spent a year on probation for carrying a handgun without a license, a Class A misdemeanor, and possession of marijuana, a Class B misdemeanor, while Coney and the other players – former cornerback Ashton White, former wide receiver Kevin Stepherson and current senior running back Dexter Williams – were charged with the marijuana possession.

Last October, Coney, a first-time offender, was ordered to probation for a drug screen but in December the court rejected a plea and a sentencing hearing was canceled.

A change of plea hearing was conducted in March, but on April 30, Coney asked to withdraw a plea agreement “based on the results of the testing in April of 2018,” according to the joint motion filed and was scheduled for the Aug. 1 bench trial. The court records do not specify what those results were.

Following a bounce-back season in 2017, all within the Notre Dame football program are excited about the upcoming start of training camp in August. However, because of this, the Fighting Irish could be missing a critical piece of their defense when camp does get underway. Notre Dame improved from four to 10 victories, and Coney had his best season to date.

The Florida native increased his tackles from 62 as a sophomore to a team-leading 116 last fall and is being counted on to lead the Irish defensive unit again.

“He has had a different level of attention to detail,” second-year linebackers coach and now-defensive coordinator Clark Lea said April 18th of Coney’s work this spring. “Maybe playing one position helps with that. We were spread thin in the fall. But he’s really worked to improve himself as a player every day.

“I have not sensed one ounce of holding back or cruising to the finish here. As a coach, it is all that you can ask for, really.”

Coney is scheduled for a pretrial conference in Rochester at 1:15 p.m. May 31 with the bench trial scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Aug. 1 in Fulton County Superior Court No. 1 with Judge Wayne E. Steele presiding.

Is there any chance of him missing the Michigan game? I mean, he was already punished for this, correct?

I have no idea, I'd think not, but I don't like hearing he's going to be busy with Court in August.

Losing Watkins, Hayes, Dexter Williams, and Tevon Coney would be the most ND way ever to get to 85 lol.

I wouldn't think this trial would last even a day. Also, if he withdrew the plea agreement after test results came back, I have to believe the results must be favorable to him. Where are our masters of jurisprudence?

*Gulp*

ND tries to suspend him for 4 games, TC GT's to the U.

*fwiw... I think the court news today is him trying to have the matter wiped from his record for NFL draft reasons.
