One last thing to add -- unless I misunderstand the rules and he signed a grant-in-aid with Florida -- it's the dead period until January 14th. Which means he can't visit UF, because it's not allowed. And he's supposed to be at ND on the 15th. Soooo... ?

Is it a violation if he does it on his own as an unofficial? I thought a recruit could contact a school during the dead period, just the school can't initiate the contact.

Classes at ND begin on January 13th which is 2 weeks from tomorrow. If ND wants to keep Coney (which I think they will) Alford needs to keep the communication going.

UAAA Day 1 Team Armour Standouts: LB

Top Performer

• Tevon Coney — Coney, a Notre Dame commit, was much better than expected. He is a strong, aggressive tackler, but the knock on him has always been his ability to show instincts and better-than-average athleticism in space. He put that on display today. On two consecutive plays, Coney showed impressive footwork, jumped both routes and broke up each pass.

Of course Loy put a Notre Dame guy number 1. Shocking

Luke Stampini also had an article that gave Coney credit for his play and said that he and Thomas were on par with each other for the day.

Coney is my favorite LB in this class, hope he sticks, and cannot wait to see him at the Blue & Gold game.

One question about him being an OLB.

In his film he is lined up inside (in what looks like a 10 or 20), and IMO does a good job of reading and flowing from there, with the athleticism to play from sideline to sideline.

With us having less depth in the middle, any chance he moves there?

I'm pretty sure the early consensus was that we were recruiting him as an inside linebacker. I might be wrong on that but I'm pretty sure it was Coney and Hilliard who we were recruiting hardest for the inside spot. Bilal is an outside guy and Barajas is kind of a swing guy...he can play any of the LB positions.

I think he did himself a favor by playing in the UA game. Held his own against much higher rated competition. Wouldn't surprise me if he saw a bump.

Bump him, drop him or leave him where he's at. I don't care. I think he'll be a big time contributor when it's all said and done.

Seemed like in years past any time we were in a situation like Tillery or Coney we ended up getting hosed. Love that we have been able to hold on to these guys.

The Miami recruiter tweeted something about the weather in South Bend vs Miami and appeared to be directed to Coney. Alford called him out and Baez later deleted the tweet.
