Just out of curiousity, does anybdy know which "star" rating is used for commits on the front page? There's usually a lot of talk on the recruit threads about 247 being the site of choice, yet for Montelus' rating on the front page, it is a 4-star rating, while he is rated as a 3-star per the first page of his thread. Just wondering if there is an attempt to distort the facts a little to make us feel better and suit our fancy or if something else is the basis of the front page ratings.
When I was a mod, Jason Pham handled the Front Page. Unless there's been a change he looks at the profile ratings and uses an ball park average. In a mix of grades I believe he leans toward the higher side. It is a team board but there is any intent to distort.
The front page of Profile's don't get updated daily. The list update noted is March 7, six weeks ago.
Looking at today's Recruiting service ratings, Montelus is:
Rivals: 4 Stars as an OT #26
Scout: 4 Stars as an OG #2
ESPN: 4 Stars as an OT #21
247: 3 Stars an OT #53
3.75 average sure looks like 4 Star Consensus whether at OT or OG.
Also keep in mind he's gotten a bunch of interest the past week or so adding UF and MIA offers. I'll take Art Kehoe's evaluation of an OL over any recruiting services's rating particularly one that hasn't been in business long enough for their graded recruit's to finish college. Montelus's cohort includes ND, UF, MIA, NU, UM, OSU, and WVU. All schools that have put more than a few OLs into the NFL. Also keep in mind Montelus is from MA not many non-regional schools cover it.
