he's been a liability in coverage, wasn't even on the field for the packers winning drive.

I've watched most cowboys games this year and he isn't on the field when the cowboys are in nickel or any 3rd and long obvious passing downs.

The reality is that he is balling from a statistical perspective. Tied for 11th in the league in tackles, leading his own team for combined tackles and this is all immediately after returning from a devastating injury. People need to cool their jets, 6 months ago it was questionable of whether he would ever play again. He's doing just fine. Quit it.

One thing I wish they would do is play him as an OLB though. Their pass rush has been hot garbage this season and he could help there. He's doing his job well at Mike, but I don't feel like it's his natural position.

They are currently 6th in the NFL in sacks. Demarcus Lawrence is leading all players with 8.5 sacks. They actually lead the NFL in yards lost on those sacks at 143 yards. I'm not sure I'd consider that hot garbage.

And that is exactly why BVG didn’t blitz him often...oh fack that’s right BVG wasted Jaylon’s talent. We all agreed he was better suited for the outside where he could rush off the edge more often. Good find Mike!

Jaylon is a generational talent, and he was completely wasted by BK’s insistence to stick with BVG, and by BVG’s insistence to stick with Joe Schmidt.

you blitz Jaylon and you are stuck with Joe Schmidt in coverage (not a good idea).

All I know is every time I get to see Jaylon pay on Sundays it makes me so upset at BVG.

Let's just never say his name anymore. Maybe the most talented defensive player I'll ever get to see at ND. He still was so ridiculous and covered up so much of how bad we truly could have been. He is so special and the perfect representative to ND

This makes me so happy. Can't wish enough good things for Jaylon, I hope he reaches his full potential because he's such an athletic specimen. It'd be great to see him storm the league.

It looks like everyone was really impressed with Jaylon Smith last night.

https://www.bloggingtheboys.com/2018/8/10/17673106/10-takeaways-from-the-dallas-cowboys-first-preseason-game-in-san-francisco

Jaylon Smith might be really good

It’s one preseason game and not even a whole contest for him, but Jaylon Smith honestly looked incredible in the limited action we saw him in on Thursday. Jaylon’s movement has been heralded by various Cowboys staffers over the offseason, the brace-less life must really be a good one.

Jaylon flew around the 49ers offense early and often. He wasn’t the only Cowboys defender to play well, and he wasn’t even the only linebacker.

covered a deep post down the field at one point on 9ers first drive and was stride for stride with the TE.

I'm a Cowboys fan so I pay attention to their camp footage. There was a play, I think last week, where he ran stride for stride with Beasley down the middle of the field. Definitely a "he's back" moment. Not to mention he is so much more jacked up than when he was at ND.

Irrelevant to my Cowboys fandom but I've never wanted an ND player to succeed in the NFL more than Jaylon.

Thanks Paul Long-blow.

I mean... You know that's a normal thing for many guys leaving college into the NFL right? He came into ND weighing about 215lbs. So he's gained roughly 30 lbs to an already freakishly athletic and strong body through college and the pros.

Yea, Jaylon's collegiate career did not suffer at all from Longo. This is what happens when you can devote 100% of your time to your body, nutrition, and profession. It happens to a lot of guys.

Lol yeah...Longo didn't have an adverse effect on Jaylon. Jaylon is just a 5 star player in every sense of the meaning.

Just reading about him earlier today. I watched the 2014 Michigan game and it still amazes me how that guy could fly. I doubt we see as talented a defender in the next 20 years at ND, and maybe even in College Football

Now that he's fully recovered, he'll probably light it up this season.
