Ran a 4.54 40-time last night at AWP. Pretty solid speed for a linebacker! Would have been the 3rd fastest LB time at the combine this year

Anyone know how they time it?

This AWP video, AWP Athletes Competing At The Best Of The Midwest Combine On 2/20/2012, shows hand timing on 40s and 3 cone events. You can see the hand held watch in at two clips. Much of the video is WR v DB drills. There are two 40s, one near the end 1:30 -1:35 shows a stopwatch.

BTW, Ironman put up the post about Jaylon's 4.44 on 2/20/12 the date of the above video so I say he time was most likely handheld.

To answer all of our speed questions, Jaylon just ran a 4.44 at the best of the Midwest combine. Yikes.

Not necessarily "bigger" names but it would be nice to see, guys like Cole Luke, Priest Willis, and even maybe Vonn Bell (I know he is a long almost no shot) take notice. I think studs like Smith, Rochell, Sherit committing will create a buzz especially with a guy like Green (Sherit can work on him)

So should I be concerned by what I see as a lack of pro-ND action in recent weeks, and then all of a sudden, he's talking to a bunch of uncommitted players who we assume (hope?) are leaning our way?

Not sure if its because I'm not looking hard enough or what but it seems to me that recently he's been pretty quiet, occasional for ND or for OSU. Earlier, it seemed like every other minute he was tweeting about us, visiting, etc.

Again, I'm new to this, so I don't have a good sense of what to look for. I just get the sense from the lack of activity that he might be cooling or having trouble making up his mind.

nah, recruits sometimes just do their own thing. In this case. Jaylon Smith is going to camps and competing, not really giving any info of late, it happens quite often, so I wouldnt worry about it. Besides, Jaylon still tweets ND players/recruits on a weekly basis.
