Good point in the comments of an article from ONE FOOT DOWN:
"The 5-star kids that are transferring out are one’s that aren’t really confident in their decisions in the first place.
Kiel – comitted to IU, early enrolled at LSU
Lynch- committed to FSU and was close to early enrolling
Neal – was never committed to another school but supposedly wanted to go to OSU but they didn’t have space after how long he waited
Vanderdoes- former USC commit"
This is NOT a Notre Dame thing, it's a confused kid thing.
“I’m excited about coaching those guys that we signed, and Eddie being one of them. I’m excited about him reporting in June with his classmates, and I can’t wait to develop him into an excellent football player.”

Elston today at a silent auction in Ft. Wayne. Fwiw.

Sounds like something he was instructed to say if anyone brought up the situation..

Known for a month that "he was leaving"? You literally posted this yesterday an changed your "prediction" today. The reality is that you read the same stuff everybody else read on the rivals board and didn't actually think he was leaving until, at best, yesterday.
There are dozens of people on this board that saw the rumors and didn't say anything, but once there was enough smoke someone was bound to mention it. It wasn't "letting the cat out of the bag". It was simply regular Joe info making it onto the main board. At any given time there is always some transfer rumor floating around, most of the time there baseless. Unfortunately for us, this one wasn't. But it is fun reading you grasping at straws in hopes of being the insider on this one.
Back to sitting on my porch watching the storm roll in. Couldn't resist really.

I'm jumping into this thread late, but....
If Kelly is at fault for anything in this situation, it's that he seems to put in a lot of effort into these high profile recruits that either appear to be prima-donnas or indecisive. I'd rather see him focus on the studs that are completely understand what ND has to offer (Jaylon) or spend more time evaluating / recruiting the next tier of recruits after that elite level.
The entire recruiting practice in college football is so backwards. The sports media just spoon feeds the top guys into thinking they are god's gift to the world and it ends up with them being self-centered and indecisive.
Not saying that's what happened here with EV, just my rant for the day. The past few years have really soured me on the fun of recruiting.

So he's probably going to sit out a year while still getting to practice at UCLA and have to pay to go to school for a year? Then he gets a scholly and has 4 years remaining and there's no way for us to prove UCLA maintained contact after he signed his NLOI?

UCLA in-state tuition with room and board is north of $30K a year. Maybe his family can swing that, I've no idea. But it's not nothing.
Recruiting's gone completely insane (and will get worse if LOIs get thrown out the window), but it's by no means just "the media" that is giving these kids an inflated sense of themselves.
They are getting seriously wooed, for years, by grown-*** men who earn six and seven-figure salaries, followed by thousands of strangers on Twitter, and their every utterance is parsed by people like us on hundreds of message boards like this. Certainly the recruiting media plays a role, but it's a lot deeper than that. And, at the risk of sounding overly old-school, too many of these kids lack adults in their lives who are willing/able to help them keep some perspective on all this.
What's funny is that, by the standards of elite recruits, Vanderdoes has generally seemed to have a pretty good head on his shoulders. Hopefully he still does.
