Not to nitpick, but UNC had consecutive top-5 finishes Mack's last 2 years there-- and had multiple 1st round draft picks (especially on defense, and multiple 2nd, 3rd round guys) those 2 years as well. True, UNC is a b-ball first school, but they've been competitive and have had players there for a while.

OSU is OSU...ND is ND.....UNC is Dean Smith.

Butch won 28 games while at UNC....that is more than what UNC won all together in the previous 6 years. Butch was a big name coach (Miami and NFL). Players around that area liked the fact that they have a coach like that at a school near them.....now that's not the case. The list of potential candidates to take over his job is nothing for recruits to drool over. This will start the downfall of UNC back to where they were before Butch....(I hope you're happy Bernard!!)

Keith would be smart to take them off his list unless he is gunho about bringing his local school a NC....Savon.

Agreed.

Great coaches do make a huge difference. UNC has proven that it can be competitive with a great coach or by cheating.

However, I think the fact that they lost Mack to Texas is at least some proof that they were not--and were probably not fully committed to becoming--a destination school for football. They may have been moving in that direction by hiring Butch, but this hurts that process in a big way. Its like Miami part II. Miami is not a crazy state school- its a very good small private college that, in its heyday, turned a total blind eye to its Program. Now that they are holding themselves to standards that reflect their school better, they are not that great because they can't utilize all the local talent. UNC seems like it is destined to repent and become mediocre in similar fashion.

Like I said in another Carolina-topic thread...the best part is that UNC will have to pay for Davis' time there, and they never finished better than third IN THEIR DIVISION. He also had a losing record in the ACC.

Bummer, dude.

I agree with all of you, but after living in NC for 10 years I realized how beautiful Chapel Hill is, and how people feel about UNC in the area. I think you underestimate how local athletes want to go to UNC for the atmosphere and education.

ESPN Insider has Marshall's top five as (in no particular order):

Auburn, ND, UNC, Clemson and Bama

I think ESPN just lists 5 schools of interest, not necessarily the top 5. In other words, even if his list is only down to 10, they'll still only list 5.

We are sitting prettier than most assume.

But i think Chicago Irish fan is right. Unless there is an article about it.

Four of those programs could be smoldering ruins by NSD; and ND isn't one of 'em.

UNC is his hometown team so I think they will be in it at the end though I don't think he will go there.

Surprised no UGA. Many have thought that would be where he would most likely end up.

This is a great point. We're sitting pretty good considering the fact that where there's smoke there's usually fire, and there's definately smoke at all of the other schools.

Actually, I don't know about Clemson being in trouble. Not saying they aren't, just that I'm not aware of it.

That's an excellent point. I like Notre Dame's chances in this race should the NCAA catch a few breaks.

North Carolina and Auburn are going to get railed big time. Alabama's administration knows what it's doing and it'll be tough for the NCAA to grab concrete evidence (pictures don't get it done in my opinion), so I think they're 50/50.

It's been said before, and I'll say it again: if Notre Dame performs well this fall and gets double-digit W's, it will certainly carry over to commitments from the nation's elite talent.

Agree with this completely...Shocked UGA isn't there either...I'd also watch out for Clemson grabbing him if they have a good year.

It's not only top five they list the schools in the running and then list schools in another section who have offered. Schools in the running can number from 1 to however many. Granted, it's probably speculation, but they have access that others don't so I usually stand by that first list.

True but they have ND listed in that same section for DGB and I have yet to hear us associated with DGB in anyway.

He hasn't narrowed it down to 5 yet. He will do that shortly i believe that is just ESPN's top 5 for Keith Marshall.

Has 1 OV in mind right on and that is to us when we play USC. Still not 100 percent guaranteed but its looking like it at this point.

Usually on OVs the coaches don't spend time with with the recruits because they're preparing for the game. But the recruits hang out together all day. Hopefully they all get along and have a great time.

With so many recruits visiting, I just hope that some don't feel neglected.

Im hoping they get that "we would be the greatest class ever" feeling..

Not necessarily true. Believe me, they make time to see the top recruits, even before the games at times. But on Sunday, BK and all the coaches schedule their days around meeting with recruits (provided they stay that long, which most do). With too many recruits on hand, it's a legit concern that some recruits aren't turned off by the lack of individual attention some may feel they deserve.

BUt this isn't BK's first trip to the rodeo, so I'm sure he and the staff will handle it...

The potential to score some big recruits and to win back-to-back against U$C? Looks like October 22nd is going to be one of the most important days of the year for the Irish.
