Terry Richardson has gone back and forth with his announcement date this week.
First, it was scheduled for Tuesday, but then pushed back to Thursday. On Tuesday night, he said he was postponing it before saying it was back on. The Detroit cornerback from Cass Tech High School said the idea of cancelling Thursday’s press conference has nothing to do with being indecisive and that he just wants to make sure all of his family members will be in attendance.
Irish Sports Daily caught up with the 5-foot-9, 165-pound cornerback for his thoughts on his five finalists - Notre Dame, Michigan, USC, LSU and Alabama.
Richardson took an unofficial visit to Notre Dame just before the Irish’s Junior Day in February with his good friend, James Ross, and came away impressed with the Notre Dame coaches.
“I like the staff,” he said. “I like Coach Chuck Martin, I love Coach Kelly. Those are real good guys, real, real, real good guys. You can’t go wrong with them. I just feel comfortable down there, to be honest.”
Ross eventually committed to Michigan along with one of Richardson’s high school teammates, linebacker Royce Jenkins-Stone. The presence of his friends in Ann Arbor could play a major role in his decision.
“You can’t really go wrong with your in-state school,” he said of Michigan. “I’ve got mad love for them. My family is pretty high on Michigan, they’re Michigan supporters. You just can’t go wrong with Michigan.”
Richardson said he grew up liking USC while his other two finalists, LSU and Alabama, were the first to offer him scholarships.
“LSU was one of the first two schools to offer me,” he said. “They saw a lot of promise in me. They’re just a school that I’m really comfortable with.”
The Crimson Tide were Richardson’s first offer.
“I love the staff,” he said. “They used to coach at Michigan State, so they know that Michigan has players. They offered me my first scholarship as a sophomore in July. Nick Saban is a real good coach, highly respected and I’d love to go play for a coach like that.”
Again, as of now, the press conference is still scheduled for Thursday, provided his family can attend.
