From 24/7:

Side note - Michigan is really leaning up in state under Hoke, which I know was something he stressed when hired. If I was a Wolverine fan, I would have to be very encouraged by this fact. Similar to BK, they stated an initial recruiting goal when hired, and went out and accomplished it, with the true returns coming on the defensive side of the ball. Going to continue to be a heck of an annual game going forward.

I don't think we should start blowing their class out of proportion. Godin has a very limited offer list and is only ranked as a 3* by Scout. While it is important for Michigan to own their state, this kid isn't an elite player. Furthermore, their best commit was told by Notre Dame that "he wasn't our guy", and Richardson could very well spurn them for us.

They will have a pretty good class this year, but I think that ours will be much better.

Was not arguing for the totality of their class, but the fact that they are controling their state again, something they did not do under Rich Rod. It was something Hoke stressed, and is something he is doing. Furthermore, I would argue that their best commit was someone ND wanted - he was the only ILB prospect they had offered. James Ross certainly could have been ND's "guy", but Hoke pulled in a big in state pickup.

hoke recruiting tough kids and not the finesse guys rich rod went after...those type of guys can't play in the midwest when November hits, which is why they're going back to the old school pro style. not saying fast guys can't play they're, but michigan needs tough players to compete and they didn't have those guys recently

I'll get back to Richardson after this, but I was referring to Joe Bolden. Ross is a good prospect, but he is undersized as well (6ft/209pds). He isnt a huge miss by the staff. Scout ranks him as the #2 Ilb, but Rivals only has him as the #143rd player (which is good, but not where a #2 ILB lands). We will have 4-5 kids in our class that will be equal or higher rated than Ross. Here are the comments from Bolden:

"Being told I am too small," Bolden admitted, "when I have never heard that before, it was an eye opener. Notre Dame told me they wanted a 6-foot-4 linebacker and that I am 'not their guy.' I'm not upset if I don't fit your profile, I was just surprised it was about height, because I have always believed that it's not the size of the dog, but it's the dogs bite."

I know you meant Bolden. I was stating my belief that Ross is a better prospect. Obviously ND agrees.

It is a very solid class right now for Hoke and UM, but it is to be expected I suppose.

RR did not focus as much in the Midwest and Michigan, and now Hoke is stressing these areas big time. Dangling a chance to play immediately (which is the case for a lot of their recruits) at Michigan shouldn't make it that hard to reel guys in.

With that said, I agree with Wooly in that this isn't an amazing class as of yet. I know some UM fans are tripping balls right now, and in a way they should be happy because there were questions about whether Hoke could recruit and he's answering those doubts to a degree very early, but their recruits right now don't even sniff what we brought in last year.

Not that I'm really comparing our classes, but we should start worrying when Michigan begins bringing in talent from all over the country, including some 5-star guys, and puts it together in the form of victories on the field.

You know...like they used to. It's a great start for Hoke, but he still has a long ways to go to reshape that roster and get back the talent level to pre-2007 levels again which is where every UM fan wants it.

He said there is a surprise team or something. It wouldn't shock me if he chose Michigan this weekend.

It would be a huge surprise if he doesn't end up in Ann Arbor...Cass Tech is to Michigan like Cleveland Glenville is to Ohio St.

Deciding this week. I think he is going to Michigan unless he pulls a fast one.

I'm skeptical. At 5'9", he'll have a hard time covering 6'2" WRs.

Terry Richardson seems a lot like Boubacar Cissoko. They have similar height and even went to the same high school. If he goes to Michigan, here's hoping he's the next Cissoko.

Boubacar Cissoko part 2. I still get images in my head of Michael Floyd abusing Cissoko in Ann Arbor two years ago.

He had to have been good enough for our staff to offer him. I'll take him if our staff wants him.

A lot of ND fans are saying this about him, and to me it sounds like sour grapes b/c he's not picking us. There are a lot of 5'9" CBs that are studs. Hell, Lo Wood is short and we might need him to play big minutes this year. Matter of fact, I went through this thread and this is what Irish fans were saying about him when we offered and we figured we had a shot:

Let's make an exception for him, kids a stud

I agree with you. i've always liked those Pac-Man Jones type corners, without the issues.

i've seen plenty of "little" guys in the sec make big impacts simply because they were fast.
This would be a very nice surprise and a nice addition to our talented DB class so far
Man o man... if we landed Richardson and Noor Davis by week's end.... we would be stacking our defense SEC-style.

Matter of fact, one of the posters who said he'd be a great addition is now comparing him to Cissoko. That's weak guys. Normally, people are in the "if the staff likes him, then he's good enough for ND and we need him" camp, but the minute he looks to be leaning elsewhere, all of a sudden he's not good enough? Personally, I like tall corners (my favorite player as a kid was Bobby Taylor), but I'll take a lockdown corner of any size. Too bad Richardson is looking elsewhere...

I'd take this kid in a heartbeat if he were interested, unfortunately at this point I don't think we really have a chance. The kid is talented and should do very good at the next level.

Well I'm completely embarrassed now. Thanks for the reality check.

On a side note I still think Tracey Howard is the best corner I've seen in this class.
