I don't know why we care. He would just take a spot that I'd much rather go to one of some 10-15 other recruits.

I'm in the same boat as you, let's move on to other CB's we are recruiting. I do realize that I am no recruiting expert though, so I could be way off base.

TJ Davis, while under the radar, is an excellent prospect. I don't know what you guys are looking at when you say "not a big deal, move on." The kid has offers from every big school in the southeast. The staff wanted him. This is a loss for us. However, we are in good standing with other prospects, so it's not reason to panic.

I think you guys meant this, but you didn't exactly say it.

You forgot a "1" at the front of that. Or is the going market rate for TJ's services roughly 45% of Cam's, in your estimation?

Come on now.... Babies gotta eat! Momma need new treads and daddy need him some 1 1/2 gold rope chain which come around like this....BING!!!!!

Bingo. If I'm TJ I know I can't get $200k up front (I mean... that's 5:s: QB money!! ;) ) so I take the $80k. By faking interest to home town FSU and national power ND I give Auburn the impression that I'm not coming unless they give me that duffle bag full of cash NOW.

So he gets the cash, makes the commitment and tells everyone "no OVs." If he's smart he'll double dip and flip to FSU for another ~$20k-50k. Because what's Auburn going to do, expose him for taking money from them while Cam Newton is under investigation? :)

Yeah, its disrespectful especially if the kid isn't being paid. It may be a joke but I don't see any of the posts in italics like the board rules state to do.

I don't agree with the implications that the kid is being paid.

This is Auburn we're talking about-- arguably the most corrupt program in CFB. No disrespect toward TJ was intended.

You invite them when telling everyone that FSU leads less than a week ago and then out of the blue signing with Auburn and saying no OVs. So he's either:

A) a liar
B) someone getting paid
C) a HUGE waffler that by changing his mind so completely in under a week for no apparent reason makes people wonder if he has multiple personality disorder

Is it disrespectful to say Cam Newton took money even though there is no evidence but a ton of smoke? Because that's all this is. A ton of smoke. Sorry if it offends you for some odd reason. I think assuming he got paid is actually LESS degrading than assuming he is a liar.

He could have had Auburn as his favorite from the get go and talked up other schools for publicity. Plenty of recurits have done it, Ray Drews drama last year speaks to that. I personally don't think its odd to be offended when we speak negatively of a kid when we have no connection to him and have no basis for the accusations.
The Cam Newton saga is a different ball game because some evidence has come forwad and is now being investigated. Your whole TJ Davis example is completely made up in your own head.

Just a theory, but could Geno Smith choosing Bama over Auburn allow T.J.'s offer to Auburn become actionable?

That would make him a liar. I agree with Lax that it's less offensive to assume he got paid than to assume he's a liar.

Agreed 100 percent. Also Deon Bush looking at Alabama now from what i am hearing. I know Bush was very high on Auburn and still might be.

I never said I was in favor of his lying. I just don't see how its right to make up a detailed scenario about a kid that is more then likely completely inaccurate.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if he got paid, but if Cam was worth $180K, this kid can't be worth 80K. 80K is a lot. Maybe 20-25K. Max.

Precisely. It's pick your poison. I'm assuming he got paid, which is not a sin. Him completely BSing people for weeks (like total and utter 100% lies to every reporter/source/coach he talked to) is something you'd have to say a couple Our Fathers for. So I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt here that he is just a savvy businessman. You're welcome, TJ.

Put me in the somethings not right here crowd.
Where the hell did Auburn come from on this.

Auburn's been around for awhile. He made a visit there this June. Auburn's traditional recruiting base is South Alabama, SW Georgia, and Northern Florida. At the link below he stated Auburn was in his top 3 (at the moment) AND PT was a prime consideration.

"Depth chart is a big thing," he said. "I would like to come in as a freshman and make an immediate impact.

He was never going to play ahead of the two guys ND has so far.

Besides being defending National Champions, a member of the strongest conference in the nation, a traditionally strong program, and having a great coaching staff, your right, absolutely no reason to go there.

To take benefits, would mean you would have to lie about it. So you are still calling him a liar.
This is my last post on the matter, but why do we have to make up scenarios on the kids motives and his character/integrity, when we don't know him and will never know him personally. You may find it odd for me to feel he is being disrespected, but I find it odd to make up these scenarios about a kid that speaks negatively of his character.

All three of the bolded attributes above are directly related to the program's tendency to "enrich" those who are a part of it.

All of this talk that TJ Davis got paid is wrong and irresponsible. You guys shouldn't throw around such an accusation unless you have some real evidence. And, of course, you have none.

Um...Auburn is really all the evidence I need. This isn't a trial. Its opinion. And my opinion is that Auburn is completely and thoroughly dirty.

Are you guys actually serious? Did you not watch the HBO special where they trotted out a half dozen Auburn players who talked about how everyone there is getting paid? Have you not followed this Cam Newton saga?

Please cut it with the "it's irresponsible" to say a kid might be getting paid who commits to Auburn out of nowhere while less than a week ago saying he favors his home town FSU Seminoles. It's not like he committed to Northwestern or Stanford. He committed to a verifiably dirty program completely out of the blue and in the face of all logic/what he has previous told all coaches/reporters. I'm not just talking ND reporters, I'm talking all reporters about both his decision timeline, who he liked, OVs, etc.. As for flying in the face of logic, Florida State also has one of the weakest depth charts at CB around... so if he wants early PT (as he just noted) it's the perfect fit.

I'm sorry, you don't go from gushing about FSU, your relationship with their coaches, etc. to all of a sudden a firm "no OVs, War Eagle" commit to Auburn. It's time to wake up and start living in the real world. Am I saying there is a 100% chance he took money? No. He could also be a pathological liar or have a multiple personality disorder. But this series of actions does not make sense. Not unless he took cash, intentionally lied to everyone repeatedly (while waiting for an Auburn offer to become "actionable" or for other reasons...), or is really so whimsical that he up and changed his mind 180 degrees for no apparent reason.

Listen, it was painfully obvious he wasn't coming here after he back tracked off of "ND is favorite" and started talking about early PT. I wrote TJ off a long time ago and couldn't care less where he committed. It wass pretty obvious he was going to stay south. But get off your high horses about how it is "unreasonable" or "irresponsible" to suggest a kid took a pay day when he completely disregards all of his previous statements/plans that he constantly re-validated mere days ago... and commits to one of the dirtiest programs around.
