Wasn't sure where to put this. Got to love ESPN including the Golson 2 INTs, and omitting that Hill threw an INT.

Scared little people running around at ESPN HQ.

They also excluded Everett's two fumbles lost. I'm ok with it as they only can put so many characters in a graphic.

Everett got too excited and screwed that up. He fumbled. We were fortunate that the whistle blew. This is another example of Everett's mind not yet being "QB gunslinger cool". He flubbed the snap, bobbled the ball, as a fantastic athlete he could reach out in a mini-time-snip and push the ball to the ground, then, like a little kid who has messed something up, stand there [not falling on the ball// admitting that he screwed up] hoping that no one noticed. Had his mind been cooly in the game, he would have fallen on the ball, regrouped his team, and properly spiked it.

Everett still needs some Zen in him.

Once they blew it dead, I'm not sure how they could award it to Syracuse. By all rights, they should have gotten the ball and returned it, possibly for a TD. But the whistle stopped play and all of our guys stopped. I don't know how you can assume the recovery at that point.

Ot win Is shorter than blowout win. I understand

Yes, they didn't need to show that all four won their games. But:

386 4td 1 int still looks better than
363 4 TD 2 int 2 fumbles

Now if they show Golson's 25 straight completions it may be a different story.

Another thing when a defensive player intentionally kicks a ball to advance it, isn't it a deadball therefore gives nd the ball back?

I think they characterized Golson's night pretty well. You can't talk about his night with any accuracy without mentioning turnovers.

"26" but we can't blame the ref's this time.. this is an ESPN arguement

I would like to argue that many Irish fans have very thin ESPN skin. Most every other fan base in the country thinks we get more coverage and more benefits than we deserve just because of the ND brand.

I agree no way in hell Syracuse is playing in the primetime slot against ANY other opponent .

Agreed. While I do think there is SOME merit to the anti-ND bias at ESPN (Fowler for example I think loves to hate on the Irish), I think overall there is an overreaction to it by our fan base. Including Golson's 2 INTs and leaving Hill's 1 out is really not a big deal. I'm sure the intern/low-level production assistant who put the graphic together didn't have a personal agenda in mind. Relax people, Golson is in the Heisman conversation - through 4 games!!! Keep the ship straight and he very well may find himself in NY come end of the year - which, btw, should bode VERY well for QB recruiting. Just look at what Manziel has done for AM's QB recruiting over the past two years...

I would agree. But, having thin skin doesn't mean that you are wrong. ESPN panders to the lowest common denominator, and the lowest common denominator is the ignorant fan who can't formulate much in the way of an original thought and believes that ND has never done anything and has been living off of their reputation for the last 127 years. So ESPN does their best to feed that line of thinking.

I am starting to wonder if ESPN isn't purposely trying to tear ND down, because ND is the last great bastion of student-athletes. I think ESPN sees the money that they could make, if College Football were more like a minor league for the NFL. But a strong Notre Dame encourages people to hold on to the concept that these kids can be great students, and also play great football. And that keeps them from moving forward with their plan to crack the College Football market wide open.

Fowler was exceptionally annoying the entire game. He has a noon game voice and personality. He has no place being on the prime time scene.

That's a perfect way to describe Fowler. I think he does a fantastic job on Gameday but Brad Nessler should be doing the ABC game.

HAHAHA that's hilarious! I never gate this two thoughts, but now that you mention it- that is definitely part of what annoys me about that guy calling games lol

Soooo true and they have a legend calling SEC vs random scrub team on the SEC network. Damn shame.

I miss Musberger. Guy had such a classic voice and I thought he was actually pretty pro-ND there these last couple years.

I always associated his voice with the game of the week. Fowler just doesn't do that.

That entire comment makes no sense whatsoever. Amateurism and the notion of the student-athlete (call it an illusion if you want) are precisely why college football and basketball have such loyal followings and generate the revenue they do for schools, conferences, and networks. Using your logic, the NBA D-League should have better ratings than March Madness. If college football was just "minor league NFL," there would be nothing to differentiate it from the NFL. It would be the same thing, just worse, and the sport would suffer tremendously.

If this whole convo is based on ESPN bias or not, just listen to how ESPN talks about Notre Dame and how they talk about other teams. None of the talking heads sound like they have done 5 minutes of studying the roster, playmakers, freshman, anything. All they know is "but, but the schedule and "Golson is a TOTALLY different player than last year". I just mute the TV cuz I honestly could do a better job.

If by "better" you mean "more thorough," then yeah, probably. And someone from MGOBLOG could probably do a better job reporting on Michigan. And someone from Tiger Droppings would be more knowledgeable about LSU. If Notre Dame got "fair" coverage compared to the rest of the FBS schools, it would amount to 28 seconds per 60-minutes of FBS coverage. I'll bet ten thousand years' salary that Notre Dame gets more coverage than 28 seconds per hour of CFB programming.

The fact is, Notre Dame is 0.8% of the FBS and 4% of the top 25, but they're 100% of what your or I or most people here care about.

I honestly think Herbie does a good job with ND games... I think he is fair and is accurate... We haven't played anyone through four games. This week starts our real season and we better play a whole lot better if we want to continue winning...

20 years ago, I would have agreed with you. But not any longer. If the above is true, then explain to me how schools like Miami, Ohio State, and USC still have HUGE followings? It's because they WIN. WINNING has trumped all else, in determining fan interest. Fans are excited about their team completely mauling another team. Who cares if it is a Div I-AA, or even a High School, team? Just win, and win big. Nothing else really matters to most fans, these days.

He does a good job with ALL games. Herbstreit is logical, fair, and informed. He is, without question, the best analyst ESPN has going for it.
