Dang. That sucks to hear. He’s faded out the last two years but wow was he fun to watch when he first came on the scene in Detroit.

He’ll be picked up shortly by a better team.

He is a receiving RB in a throw happy league... he will find a home. Hated he was with Lions in the first place.

Do the Colts have interest? I think that would be a pretty good fit for him.

The Colts have Hines, who was one of the best receiving backs / APB in the league as a rookie, so doubt they show interest. The guy has jets on his shoes. Mack is the unquestioned every down back, Wilkins likely his go to back up, and they just picked up Spencer Ware likely to be a short yardage and goal line back. Then you have Williams who's likely going to be the odd man out. The signed A.Ware too, but I doubt he sticks over the top 4 guys. Crowded RB room.

Riddick's touches/yards have declined the last couple years, so it's probably best he gets a fresh start with some team in need of a receiving RB. Detroit is messy, and he's better off somewhere else. He'll get picked up.

LOL, that's always my thought. But I don't think it will happen. White is a crazy good receiving / all-purpose back for the Pats. Patterson is gone to the Bears this year IIRC, so who knows.

Detroit has let go of three Irish alumni in the last year: Golden Tate, Theo Riddick, and TJ Jones. May Detroit continue to rot as the dumpster fire it always has been.

Brees only has so many throws left in him, same with Brady. If I were Theo I'd be trying to lock up with Goff or Luck, etc..

I don't see Theo's shelf life laying much longer than Brees and Brady. That's not a knock on Theo just the way of the NFL for RB's. He's probably already lasted longer than the average.

Further adds to my point...IF Theo wants 5 to 6 more years in the league (I think he has that many years of production in him), he'd be better suited lacing them up with a young stud.

How do you figure the QB changes the RB landscape in the NFL?

Let me put it this way....if I were Theo wanting to extend my NFL career, I'd much prefer a QB who has a shelf life. Luck, Goff and the Mahones in the world sound much more appealing than the Brees and Brady's.

I'm looking at it from a dollars and cents standpoint, I guess. It's the beauty of free agency. He's an open asset on the market, has the flexibility to choose where he sees best suits. And leverage in negotiations due to a unique skill set.

He'll land just fine.

As both a Notre Dame fan and a Detroit Lions fan, I'm a little partial to former ND players playing for the Lions.

That being said, both Golden Tate and Theo Riddick are better off playing for someone else. The Lions have had no direction for many, many years now. Every year or two it is:

1. Start Over
2. Change the Offense
3. Release/Fail to Resign Their Best Players
4. Trade Their Top Players
5. Have Players Leave the League Early Rather than Play for the Lions (Barry Sanders, Calvin Johnson)
6. Etc., etc.

Matt Patricia comes in and the Lions take several steps backward. Like so many failed coaches in the past, Patricia will be gone in another two or three years, and the next rebuild will begin. After all the Lions had Matt Millen as their GM for several years. That says it all.

As much as I enjoyed watching Golden Tate and Theo Riddick, they are both better off somewhere else.

If my math is correct there are 7 running backs in the NFL over 30 years old. Odds are whatever contract Theo signs soon at 28 years old will be his last. He has no business worrying about quarterback situations in 2023-2024.

I think this could be really good for Theo, as long as Joe Flacco is their guy and he stays healthy. Looking back at the past 10 seasons that Flacco has been a starter he does well when he has a RB that is a receiving threat. Ray Rice benefited a lot when paired with Flacco. During those years when they were together, Ray either led the league in receptions for a RB, or he was in the Top 3-5. That's Theo's game, so hopefully this ends up being a good matchup.

Riddick will miss the next 6-8 weeks after sustaining a slight fracture in his shoulder in practice. No surgery.

Theo has retired from the NFL.

I really enjoyed watching him in Detroit for those couple of years. Always made the first guy miss.

In my top 3 favorite ND players of all-time. Not for the stat-line. For his work ethic, attitude, talent, and that USC game. Congrats, Theo.
