Watching them for first time (AZ game). I feel good about this game. Their OL isn’t pass protecting well unless AZ is just loaded on DL.

Also don’t think their DL is scary but their Lbs to move down hill quickly

This is who Denbrook is setting up by repeatedly running the same looks.

I think this is a game we win 8/10 but that’s in no way due to my confidence in Denbrock lol
Funny thing is, i am at the other spectrum. If CJ were to struggle I trust Denbrock to say “I have an elite defense. CJ is off. I can manage this”

This is the game that every ND hater thinks/prays is going to be the game ND loses. I think they are in for a rough day. BYU has had 1 win over the last 10 years over a Top 5 team. That was #5 Arkansas who finished the year unranked. They are 2-5 against Top 10 teams in the last decade. The last win being in 2022 against 10th ranked Baylor. And two of the Top 10 teams they lost to didn't even finish ranked.

Basically, they are sexy pick for an upset because they have good records against bad teams, but then fold when faced with a great opponent.

I lean this way myself.

BYU is very close ND at the tail end of the BK era. They are disciplined, run heavy, and will overpower the teams they are supposed to. But will fall against the actual elite teams. We know exactly what they are and how it feels as a fan. You think you deserve more credit or that you can win in any game. But then you go up against a true #1 and you realize that you aren't going to win or pull off upsets with the style of ball they play.

I expect to win by 17+ still.

Also of note, their starting RT (2 year starter) is out for the rest of the season. Got injured against CSU. I don't think they have officially announced it yet, but it's an 8 week thing, minimum.

I think they are very good, top 10 team and if they win the Holy War they are a clear playoff team. I also think there is a big gap between the top and them. Traore, Young, KVA, Moore, McKinney, and Shuler are too good for their offense to get anything done.

They have a tough home environment but agree with everything you're saying. They do a good job of beating the teams that they should but have recently not been able to get over the hump against elite competition.

Also, their QB is elite against zone coverage, but has been generally ineffective against man coverage... soooo... stop their RB -> make them one dimensional -> everything takes care of itself.

Is their home environment that tough? I've heard them talking smack for the last year about how we're cooked in Provo or some crap. They were 6-0 last year at home, but the only team with a pulse they played there was Utah. Their previous records don't show they're unbeatable there: 5-2, 4-3, 5-2, 5-2. Their stadium is only 62k seating, although it's more vertical than ours so it holds the noise in better I think. More than anything they talk a lot about the elevation and how it's detrimental to opposing players that aren't used to it. From what I've seen research wise the thinner air can be hard in sports where you're running for long periods like soccer, but in football where plays are over in 5-10 seconds it's a nothing burger.

I think they hang close for a quarter or two, they'll be fired up and at home. I just don't see how their offense moves the ball consistently. Could be a rock fight for a while, but I think we have elite team speed and will be able to match their physicality for 60 minutes.

The 2017-21 BK Era ND teams is an apt comparison. I think about that 2018 playoff game against Clemson where even when it was close for most of the first half, it was very clear which team was better and would eventually smother the other one. We were fighting and clawing, but man that Clemson team just looked and felt different.

I expect something similar in this game.

It’s almost as if sports are the taboo energy outlet for BYU. They also desperately want to be a peer to ND in the religious academic school front. IRC they were expecting to have more games scheduled with ND a while back also.

In short, this game is the ultimate fixture of pent-up and repressed energy for them.

The altitude used to be a bigger deal before modern conditioning. Still has some impact but much less these days.

None of it will save them.

If by 'BYU' you mean 'humanity,' then yes.

On the latest II podcast John Brice says BYU officials expect this to be a 3:30 EDT kickoff and College Gameday
Rece Davis on College Gameday Podcast alluded to maybe the show will go to BYU, but...

"The Oct. 17 slate includes a number of notable games, including Florida at Texas, Ohio State at Indiana, Alabama at Tennessee and Mississippi State at LSU. Thus, competition will be fierce for landing 'GameDay.'"

They've already done two Texas games, OSU, Tennessee, LSU lol

It's just lip service because they're hearing the noise from outside the SEC

If by 'BYU' you mean 'humanity,' then yes.

Please, take this from me, a reformed smart-guy, to improve your life's outlook: even if you truly did know more everything than every person you interact with (which, you don't) it adds nothing to your life to correct, modify, one-up, speak down to, and generally 'well acckshually' every comment others make. Yes, I've quoted an example here that is less offensive and could be friendly banter, but within the context of the rest of your posts there isn't much of a generous interpretation to make. (And the only reason I recognize your name & posting pattern is because how distinctive they are in demeaning smart-guy tone.)

Seriously, making it your job to correct everyone else in the world will add nothing to your life. That brief feeling of superiority and importance is gone in a flash but the mark of unlikability lasts much longer.

As to your actual point, BYU has extra dimensions of taboo energy and that isn't exactly uncommon knowledge so I should think you should know that.

The haters had their chances in September. It will be the stage of the season where ND is rolling people. Depth starts to creep in. The world will be hanging their hopes on BYU. By the halftime, those hopes will be fading. By midway through the 3rd, the world will be saying how it's just BYU and they aren't any good.

I'll be at the UCF v BYU game the week after ND beats them. I'm hoping their spirits will be broken and confidence shaken rather than them being angry and ready to dismantle their conference schedule.

Homecoming Weekend! I'll be in the "softball field lot" for tailgating. My fraternity still does a big tailgate even though were not on campus anymore. If you pass by the old man Sig Ep tailgate, come say hello. I'll send DM you my number.
