Anyone else worried this is a potential trap game? Wisconsin has fallen off hard but they’re still a punchy big 10 program with pride.

The badgers were my first college football team when I was a little kid. Hopefully we win 70-0 then fickle turns it around and they go 10-2.

The talent on this roster, how they were disrespected by ESPN on national tv in December, and how they've had to live with that taste in their mouth for 9 months: if this game is close then everything needs to be looked at. including Freeman.

Not really seeing how this can be a trap game. ND has had to deal with the CFB snub for a whole off-season. I suspect we are going to come out focused, angry, and physical. Now, I am sure WI is an improved team from last season; but, we are much more talented, athletic, and deep. I will be surprised if Carr is taking snaps in the 4th.

Wouldn't call it a trap game - it's the opener and I'm sure they're not looking ahead to Rice the following week. ND will be ready to play.

The only way I see Wiscy keeping it close is if Notre Dame’s offense has a lot of drive killing penalties. Wiscy's defense should be good enough to get ND off the field in 3rd and long situations and that could turn it into a lower scoring game.

Absent turnovers that give Wiscy short fields, I don’t think they can score enough points to win - even if Notre Dame’s offense sputters a bit because of penalties and mistakes.

We're a 21pt favorite lol. We've been that over G5 teams in past years.

I expect the offense to start slow against a solid Wisky D, but dont expect them to do much on O. Something like 31-13.

I think we roll them. Independent pod mentioned that the leave no doubt motto could lead to some massacres

Wisconsin is a below average team that may or may not win 6 games this year. ND should be playing for a national championship this year. This game should be 63-7 ND.

Marshall? Stanford? Northern Illinois?

Marcus Freeman has not been immune to head scratching losses...
I'm not going to put much stock in the 2022 season. He had never been a head coach before. Head scratching losses should've been expected, especially with two finance bros at QB.

The quarterback is mobile. If he can keep moving the chains and holding the ball, it might still be a game in the third quarter.

I’m expecting a steamrolling though.

If week 1 is a trap game we were never going to be any good.

I'm more worried about Michigan St being a trap
Sparty is going to be absolute dog piss. 11% blue chip ratio coming into the season. No notable transfers coming in (55th ranked class there). Cabinet is absolutely bare for Fitz.

I do think Wisconsin is not to be overlooked. They will be tough on D and have some speed on O. I think ND scores midway through the 4th to win something like 27-14.

The ghosts of my Notre Dame football past could see this going similarly to the 2019 season opener against Louisville. Mobile QB but overall not that talented with a new coach with glimmers of hope for the future. 14-14 after 1, 35-17 final. However, our roster is more talented on both sides of the ball than that roster (except for maybe Claypool being our clear X). Hold on to the ball, and we roll 45-10.

As long as the offense doesn't come out super slow I think we put this away early. 45-10 final, but 35-3 at half.

Don't get me wrong, I know ND is stacked, but I do think Wisconsin is the 4th toughest opponent on ND's schedule.

Eh, maybe. I am not so sure WI is better than UNC or Navy. Hell, Syracuse, with a healthy Angeli, could probably give WI a run.

Yeah but Sampson is horrible at predictions. I think Wiscy covers. Their QB will give the D some problems until they adjust.

Freeman definitely has zero excuses not to be up & to have his guys up for this game. It’s his former coach as a player & as an employer plus all the 2025 snub stuff.

Why is that? ND is probably the best prepared team for a dual threat QB in the country. Remember they have for years now done Navy prep even in Fall Camp. While Joseph had over 1,000 yards rushing last season, he is a designed runner, not a scrambler. He had 1 FBS game last season with more than 30 scramble yards, And NDs LB/safeties have seen designed QB run for multiple seasons at a depth that probably no one in the country can match.
