Anyway, does anyone feel really good about how Bevacqua has handled this? If so why? Talk me off the ledge

I'm with you. Bigtime "guys stop it" energy from a kid who gets wedgies every day. There is a lot of space between what we have and the caricature roid raging fan in a wife beater portrayed by the "cooler heads" crowd. Last month should been massive self promotion for the program and J Love. 13 people in the room and not one signaled to Pete that we had a problem?

Also - If he isn't the table pounder then who is? We have all this influence but no mouthpieces or useful idiots to counter the media blitz? Now every sports show is coming up with any way they can get a yank on the wedgie with bullshit Marcus to Giants talk and whatnot. 100% convinced our NBC deal is as toxic as the ACC deal - slobbering lovefest and 7 home games, make it happen.

Not even day late and dollar short - more like a month behind and millions forgone.

I posted similar data in a different thread, but according to FPI

ND played #7 Miami, #10 TAMU, #11 USC, #41 Arkansas, #48 BSU, #70 Navy, #86 Purdue, #87 BC

Miami played #3 ND, #23 USF, #24 SMU #29 UL, #33 FSU, #36 UF, #72 VTech, Unranked Bethune

Both played #37 Pitt, #57 NCSU, #81 Stanford, #100 Syracuse

Not sure how FPI weights directly to SOS/SOR, but I'm positive it's relevant.
Appreciate the response!

Navy at 70 is absolutely insane. They beat USF who comes in at 23 for Miami’s SOS???

So we got no credit for smoking Navy and it actually tanked our SOS?

Yeah they specifically implemented SOR and SOS as metrics to be emphasized. It appears that “game control” and FPI were deemphasized as we saw it significantly less this year when they would have benefited us both greatly.

Also worth noting OSU, IU, Oregon, ND, TT (non SEC teams) were pretty consistently at the top of the advanced metrics this year and they were rarely referenced by the committee.
Bingo, astute observation. Never once did the committee reference advanced statistics when comparing ND to any other team. Its like they want to use the most basic ways to compare teams in order to give the most possible gray area for them to insert their cherry picked narratives.

Correct. USF contributed around 0.5 to Miami's SOS while Navy was about 0.18.

FEI's SOS for ND and Miami is similar -- 4.01 to 3.85. 60% of ND's value came from playing Miami, TAMU, and USC. 70% of Miami's value came from playing USF, SMU, Louisville, Florida, and Pittsburgh.

I think the message has been received by the ACC for sure. He’s out in front taking accountability for opting out of the bowl game and taking all the arrows for the program. His nerdy appearance covers up an assassin. Or at least I hope.
He gave us the quote of the year, "We eat what we kill"

I think at a minimum, Pete is doing his job simply by making media rounds and keeping them off of the staff and the team. He, and ND have become the story, not Freeman and/or the players.

If you play an FCS school, you should get the SOS kiss of death. Period.
I believe there is reasonable flexibility around how to judge FCS games. The cfp/committee should make it very clear that a game against an FCS school will be treated as a bye or a bad loss. I don't know about adding them to the SoS because these games are incredibly beneficial/lucrative for the FCS school. I don't like the idea of fucking those schools out of a relatively huge payday. Having a charity game is great, but teams shouldn't be rewarded for them. My suggestion might kill the games, too. I just think these games can be "okay" and shouldn't be shutdown without taking the FCS school into consideration.

I'm also not sure it even matters because I don't believe Sankey will ever let that happen. The SEC is too accustom to scheduling those extra byes in Nov and no way they dump these games without getting back something massive in return.

The dudes upset about Pete are the same guys who hated Jack most of the time.

Jack wouldn’t have been able to “prevent” this from happening any more than Pete could have. Seriously. The final CFP vote even fooled Vegas. Nobody except the people in that room knew that was coming.

They CC'ed ND on conference wide emails and people were replying all saying dumb shit with regards to their social media campaign.

Fucking amateurs. Bevacqua showed tremendous poise and restraint publicly if that's the case.

You've got to be kidding me. The ACC fucked up "reply all". Brilliant
Wait…for real?

After the second to the last ranking, when Bama got bumped over ND despite playing like shit against Auburn, I think most people saw what could be coming. I have no idea what could have been done - maybe he did do something behind the scenes. Totally possible.

I'd bet my ass that Sankey did something after ND was ranked over Bama in week 12.

Everyone do yourself a favor and research how he voted ND in the the AP poll in '93 before you get pissed at ND for cancelling...
Where did you find that? Ballots from both polls from ‘93 were not published so there’s no authoritative way to confirm it. I did find a quote saying he ranking teams requires “judgement” - meaning H2H are only part of the criteria. But it doesn’t say he voted them 6th.

After processing things for a couple of days, this is my uninformed opinion on where this ends up:
1) Bevacqua realizes that the ACC deal isnt working out for ND
- ND is making more money for the ACC than the ACC is for ND
- 5 games a year against the dregs of the ACC is not doing ND any favors in terms of SOS or selling tickets for home games.

2) The only leverage the ACC has is the contract, so Pete is going to argue that the ACC acted in bad faith with its biggest business partner to try and get out of the contract.
- Clemson, FSU and Miami meanwhile are eagerly watching to see where this all goes
- If ND can get out of the contract (or if they can even make the ACC think that there is a chance of them getting out of the contract), all of a sudden ND has all the leverage.
- Basically at that point, Pete has the ACC over a barrel where if they dont give him exactly what he wants ND walks... and Clemson, FSU and Miami use that as the means to also leave and blow the whole conference to smithereens.
- Its interesting to note that those teams have been very open about their desire to leave the ACC and they are also all very close with ND. Bevacqua mentioned how the Miami AD is a friend and he has been very deliberate not to criticize the teams. He also signed a deal with Clemson.

3) Once the ACC is dust, ND QB's the group of Clemson, FSU and Miami to land an advantageous landing spot for the others while maintaining ND's independence OR this becomes the dawn of the super league era where the biggest teams land the biggest paycheques.
- Why is Kentucky or Purdue getting top tier money from TV revenues when they dont sell tickets or drive eyeballs.
- The era of CFP socialism will end.
- Attendance is down across the board.
- The teams that sell tickets and ads need to be rewarded for doing so.

All sounds good..only question is how do we fill our schedule for the next few years. Finding 5 games a year will be tough

Feels like a replay of the Frozen Five debacle. ND playing by rules no one else is. You can bet your ass none of the SEC or ACC people on the committee recused themselves from shilling for their teams due to the obvious conflict of interest.

It’s so weird. Dude had Freeman write a blurb yet the AD of an SEC school (which will make more money if Bama is in), is the chair of the committee.

Arkansas AD literally stands to make millions of dollars for every SEC team that gets in. Ivan took of a tour of ND's campus. Guess which one recused themselves?
