Why don't you re-read the post and make sure you fully comprehend it before allowing the verbal diarrhea to spew out. At which point did I condone assaulting a police officer? Didn't think so. My disdain is for the people who are sick enough to put a "QB competition" ahead of the personal well-being of one of our own. Not saying what he did was rigjt. As a matter of fact, we don't KNOW anything at this point in time. All we do know is that there are people on this board celebrating what is potentially the darkest moment of Tommy's young life. That is, without a doubt, a black eye on our community.

Don't think you can attack people on this forum by calling them f-tards and the black eye of the fan base without any retaliation...

If you think myself or anyone else was jubilantly celebrating you are wrong. My post was the worst of it. And all i said was Good riddance. Give Golson a chance, and, wait for it, YOU cannot assault a cop! Thats all i said, and then you come firing away with you post.

Its not like were were posting videos of us popping champagne bottles and eating cake. No one was really posting any massive celebration over this... you were the one spewing the diarrhea.

Per Brian Hamilton, the SB Police Captain Phil Trent stated:
Is it just me, or does that sound like he is already qualifying the charge? Just my initial thought, but seems like a weird remark to make the morning after the arrest.

If it was "terribly violant" he would probably been tazed or worse....so Tommy still could have F'd up bad and have really screwed himself.

"Assault" is a legal term of art that is too broad to base any conclusions upon. It does not mean Rees tried to fight a Police officer.

SBT reported he is charged with battery. Meaning he made physical contact...

All you mouth-breathing f-tards who are actually celebrating this should be ashamed of yourselves. I am among those who NEVER wanted to see Tommy start another game, but never would I want it to be because he wasn't beat out on the field. Let alone it being for personal reasons... You're all a black eye on our fan base.

Thats also true lol, and i dont want to sit here and bash rees either cuz Lord knows I havent been a saint. Hopefully in the end he learns from all of this because even though i didnt want him to start as the quarterback he still seemed like a really good guy.

Since when can you get arrested for arguing with a cop?

Hear me out, but I am sick of NDPD. As a former student at ND, they seem to get their nuts off for arresting students doing anything other than walking and breathing.

Do not read this as condoning what Rees and Carlo did, I am not doing that. However, how many students finish exams and go and have a drink or attend a party? I did it when I was at ND, and see several of my students do it now at my university.

The difference is that here, when the cops show up and there is underage drinking going on, they tell you to call someone to come and get you. The kids know that and don't freak out and run away or attack a cop. I am not blaming this on the cops, but its college, I did it, you probably did it, and the kids next door are doing it.

Didn't the reports say it was an off-campus incident and it was SBPD, not NDPD? By the way, shame on those bad cops for trying to do their job and uphold the law...

Folks,
I have seen several people taking solice in the fact we now will likely not have to deal with Tommy as a QB at ND. I am one of the biggest Tommy critics of his QB abilities or lack there of. However, I NEVER would want a kid to lose his opportunity with something like this. He made a bad decision and I am sure he regrets every bit of it today. So, let's not be celebrating any of what this situation might have done for our QB battle. What we have here is a kid who may have lost his opportunity at a college education and tarnished his record. Sorry for your situation Tommy and we wish you the best in getting this resolved.

As for Carlo, his situation is something that happens on every college campus every week. He was a bit too loud with the officers and got the ride downtown to cool off. He will likely get some internal punishment and be back on the team. Still, you have to use your head as a member of the ND football team.

Lessons learned for both young men. Hope you are given a chance to redeem yourselves.

According to the South Bend news this morning Tommy Rees and Carlo Calabrese were arrested. Tommy was arrested for resisting, public intox, minor consumption, and assaulting an officer. Nothing said of Carlo. Looks like Golson has his chance. Normally I would be mad about this, but it's Tommy so see ya.

I fail to see where the bad news is in this. Tommy's arm cost us games last year and Carlo's stupid personal fouls didn't help either.

Then do your job. Solve crimes, solve murders, investigate rape when it happens, but give me a break if you think college kids on college campuses don't drink. Let's go arrest them all and close down our educational institutions.

I would agree with if this was some stupid little mistake he did but he kicked a cop!! What Tommy did was stupid and he desrves to be punished for this

And you would say the same if this was Manti and EG or GAIII? Come on, you're better than that.

Im just going to wait for the full report. Police these days have a tendency to over react to things. If i was rees i would of booked it too. Then again i confidence in my speed to escape. Rees couldnt out run a 3 toed sloth if his life depended on it.

Over react? You wouldn't make it a day doing their job.

Agreed 100%. I am one of the ones that would prefer to see any of our other QBs start over Rees, but I will never rejoice in the mistakes of young men and particularly the young men that play for and attend Notre Dame.

This is an unfortunate situation for the young men involved, for Notre Dame football, and for the university. It really is shocking that anybody would express joy over such a situation. It's hard for me to imagine the lack of perspective that somebody must have to hold such a view.

when are kids going to learn? A COP CAN'T ENTER A HOUSE WITHOUT PERMISSION OR A WARRANT. IF HE DOES, ASK HIM TO LEAVE IMMEDIATELY. If you're drinking outside, go inside when the cop rolls up. If he knocks on the door and tells you to open it, ask if he has a warrant through the door. When he says no, tell him to go get one. If a cop comes into your house without permission, you have every right to tell him to leave before having to provide any identification. Here's a trick I used once when I saw an officer in my apartment during a party:
Me: Sir leave my apartment, I did not consent to a search.
Officer: I want to see identification.
Me: That's fine sir but I did not consent to search so please step outside and I'll get my ID.
*Officer steps outside*
*I close the door*
*Officer knocks on the door*
Officer: Come out and have a word with me bud.
Me: Do you have a warrant?
Officer: No...
Me: Go get one please.

Thank you for pointing that out, because this is exactly the mindset I was referring to in one of my earlier posts on this thread. It's the "it's somebody else's fault that I'm in this situation, not mine" syndrome. I have no problem with kids having fun (i.e underage drinking etc), but it doesn't mean that if you get caught, you somehow don't deserve to be punished per the law. I went to college and had my fun, ran when the cops came to bust up a party, didn't get caught luckily, but somehow that would be the cops fault if they did catch me??? I don't think so. And now law enforcement needs to also selectively enforce the law to suit your personal interest as well??? It's called PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY and there seems to be a lack of it at times today. Again, I am not saying you can't have fun (as I also admitted I have) as a college sutdent or otherwise, but don't go acting like it's someone else's fault if you are held accountable for the consequences of your actions.

I'm sorry, but the SBPD is not going to pepper spray the starting QB at ND for just "wigglin" away from getting arrested. Tommy is charged with resisting arrest and assault and battery. Like everyone here already knows, battery means he made physical contact with an officer.

Why are you trying to sugar coat this?

I'm sorry but I think the SBPD definitely would pepper spray somebody pretty easily. I don't think I need to go into how they've used excessive force in the past. And like I said in the example above any contact can be considered assault. Not saying it's right, nobody should run from the police but I've seen first hand how an office can claim anything as assault.

Blue and Gold reported that Tommy ran when cops showed up at the house he was at, presumedly because he knew he'd be screwed if caught drinking underage. I could envision a scenario where he was caught and tackled by a cop, and he drunken and instinctively tried to get out of grasp. Stupid and a big mistake, but I have seen it before (I am lucky not to have been caught in my day) and have a really hard time with the idea of crushing a kid and rejoicing at his impending inaction on the football team because of it. Let the justice system play out and let's try and keep perspective.

That's what I was envisioning too. A co-worker said this morning that he must have been at a bar, but I figured it was a house party. Rees is too recognizable to go to a bar underage. Dumb move by Rees he should have just taken the drinking ticket and the minor consequences.
