I've never heard this either

One last thing to respond to this. The reason I've heard "when's the last time you made the NCAA tournament?" is because it's a valid insult to Northwestern. It's not original, but it's true. Just something to think about when you have the same response to my comments about why people don't like you guys.

I thought people didn't like me because I eat off their plates in restaurants. Good looking out.

Actually, given the timeline thing you posted I'm somewhat convinced about Alviti, still not totally convinced about Malin, but whatever. You could certainly be right, and you'll notice I quickly stopped arguing about that point. Like I said, the point was that you guys were so quick to jump on what was really a very non-inflammatory, friendly post (actually, mostly just you, Lax. Most of these other guys actually seem alright)

When I first read this thread and posted, I honestly thought you seemed like a nice group who were going to break down the stereotypes I had in my mind about ND fans... instead you reinforced them. See you gents in 2014.

We got Russell and Mahone as well as a transfer in Amir Carlisle, all of them IMo are better then Jones

Italics on this site are used to indicate sarcasm. I was well aware that you've probably heard it a million times and obviously it's not relevant to college football. I'm just giving you crap because you called some well-respected posters (i.e. Irish Lax) ignorant and classless. Otherwise I don't have a problem with Northwestern

No, you had no reason to get bent out of shape and defensive over me posting simple facts about the number of players who have committed to NU with reported ND offers. But you did, because you're a classless tool. If you guys ever wonder why the rest of the country hates you so much, this is it. It's not because you're so good. That era ended in 1995. It's because of crap like this

I'm going to take a stab in the dark and guess that you didn't graduate from Northwestern due to your lack in ability to provide a logical defense regarding IrishLax's response. Also your short-tempered and defensive attitude towards facts against your argument aided in giving it away.

What cracks me up is that my first post was completely non-confrontational. I just attempt to correct your ignorance on a couple points. It's OK to be wrong... you don't follow recruiting to the level we do... that's fine. Here is my post:

"ND stopped recruiting Malin Jones... I dunno if he even ever had a truly actionable offer.

You're right, Alviti likely wasn't coming to ND as soon as we got Gunner Kiel. Or at least it made him stop from committing. And then our staff backed off also... and then we got Zaire... so really I'm surprised it even took this long for him to commit to NW.

I also think it's a fantastic choice by Alviti. He'll likely shine in that offense and get an extremely elite education to boot."

Explain to me what part of that post was either incorrect or inflammatory? Yup, there wasn't anything. Then you post the following gem of total BS and ignorance that starts the ball rolling:

Are you honestly trying to tell me ND stopped recruiting Malin Jones before he committed to NU... in October of his junior year?

And yeah, of course the only reason you would ever lose a recruit to lowly NU is because they're scared of the competition at big bad ND. Yeesh. I come here peacefully answering a question posed by one of your posters and this is the kind of response I get. Get over yourselves.

How is that "friendly" and "non-inflammatory?" Are you kidding me? This is a total douchebag post. And then, after claiming to have read the entire Alviti thread, you cop to being completely wrong when someone posts a timeline of events. Save your sanctimonious "I was just trying to be friendly" load of crap.

You came on here to make a semi-gloating yet mostly non-confrontational post about winning recruiting battles against ND. You were corrected on factual inaccuracies. It could've stopped there.

And then you get upset about being wrong and getting called out. So you start with attacks of our facts and then personal attacks of our "ego"... not a bad tactic if your facts were right... because if I can't contradict you with specifics then you win. But they weren't correct... not even close.

Ultimately you cave when you realize there is no way in hell to win your argument on facts. There was nothing out there to refute what was presented to you for either recruit. So you try to to take the proverbial high ground and a parting shot at the same time by saying, paraphrasing, "wow, this is what I get for being friendly... you all reinforce ND stereotypes... but let me say that I like most of you, just IrishLax is a jerk for pointing out how everything I said was flat wrong." What, you think everyone here is going to say "Oh no! Don't have a bad impression of us! We're sorry IrishLax was such a meanie!! Please forgive us!!" Not going to happen. No one here is buying the line of BS that you are selling.

Get lost.

Incredible how optimistic/arrogant you are even after UConn, Syracuse, Navy, Tulsa, USF...

yes, because upsets never happen in football... Appalachian State is a better team than Michigan... As much as I hate Michigan, i would pick Michigan over A State 100 out of 100 times... ill be right 99 times it seems, oh well, ill take my chances...

Purple Haze, I am not sure what you are getting mad at... Everyone who posted here basically congratulated the young man and hoped he does well for Northwestern. Notre Dame fans have tons of respect for Northwestern because they are a school that takes academics as seriously as anyone in the nation. Since IU has no chance of winning anything in the next 20 years, I wouldnt mind seeing Northwestern win the Big 10, maybe Alviti is a good step toward that.

What a joke...you just proved my point. You were overlooking NU despite the fact that upsets do happen all the time in college football (as you just stated). It doesn't matter who's favored going into a game on paper. Not to mention, NU has beaten a top 15 team in each of the last three years.

No **** Michigan will almost always beat App St. The gap between those two programs is much greater than that between ND and NU.

Don't kid yourself, they are a rival waiting to happen. A bit of a sleeping giant so to speak.

Schools like Northwestern, Stanford, Vanderbilt, Duke, etc need to stay bad so that Notre Dame remains the only school offering an elite education and football glory.

Northwestern winning the Big Ten would be terrible.

I have nothing against Northwestern. In fact, I always root for you guys. I think Alviti made a great choice for himself. Regardless of whether we stopped recruiting him or not, our staff deemed him good enough to be ND QB, which means we all pretty much feel he can play. Congrats on getting him.

HOWEVER, don't come onto our site and sling insults at our members. If you want to talk football, we welcome a reasonable voice from another school. But end it with the personal insults or you won't be posting here anymore. This is not a smack-talk site. Thanks...

alright, if you are worried about the 1 in 100 loss, then go ahead and be worried, your choice, but I am definitely not going to fret over it and its not even worth discussion, especially telling us to stop congratulating a player because we will play him in a couple years...

i thought to myself, "hmm that's a lot of action on some random NU recruits commitment. maybe i'll check and see what's up."

BOOM!

it's a mess in here. purplehaze escalated that quickly. he had an emotional reaction to a shred of disagreement and smack talk equivalent to a hormonal, emotional wreck of a teenager arguing with his parents about staying in for family night instead of going to a kegger. like whoa.

Not surprisingly, you missed the point again. ND would NOT win 99 out of 100 against NU!!

The gap between ND and NU is much, much less than that between Michigan and an FCS school.

I agree. 99 out of 100 times NDHoosier??? Have you NOT seen us lose to Syracuse, Tulsa, Navy, etc??? Right now, I'd say it's much closer to 60/40, or at the most 65/35. Why? Because our players don't bring it consistently enough, and Northwestern is much better than you are giving them credit for.

Now...give me a QB and it would be much, much higher. But that's not the reality.
