I'm convinced that Rees gives us the best chance to win in 2012. However, if he starts this season, 2013 will NOT be special.

Good Lord. How? How does a turnover prone, weak armed immobile QB in a "spread" offense gives us the best chance to win? He no longer has Floyd. Floyd commanded double teams which opened up decent passing lanes for Rees. No Floyd means less space for all the other receivers. Just because Kelly plays Rees does NOT mean he is the only option we have. We don't know the other options because the coach doesn't play them.

Hendrix, Golson, and even Kiel gives us a better shot to win. Why? If they play, Kelly will have to apply a more conservative, more efficient, and a more run based attack on offense. Recall how kelly called plays when an inexperience Rees took the reins. When Rees took over the QB position, we won as a team. We ran the ball. We played field position. In spite of Rees's propensity to turn the ball over, we were winning. The simple minded lot concluded that Rees was the reason why were winning. He was gamer...he didn't have the deer and headlights BS. The truth is that we were winning because we were employing a more conservative, team oriented, tough style of football. We struggle and lose when we deviate from that style.

Rees starting means hello grab bag offense...where there is no rhyme nor reason with the play calls.

Calm your ****. I don't like it either, but the practice reports almost unanimously have him as the current leader for the starting job. BTW, Kiel does not give us a better chance to win than Tommy.

I was reading through various post, and I thought it was interesting what many of you had to say about the QB situation. I came up with a several points of my own.

1. If ND is in the top 10 in rushing, it will not matter who starts, ND will still have a successful season 9-12 wins.

2. If Kelly starts Rees, do not pull him if he has a bad half. I cannot stand to which the same scenario unfold as last year.

3. Rees is capable of running the offense proficiently, with a good run game.

4. When inside the redzone, run....run....and run some more, and take points when available.

5. Kelly said that he wants to become more vertical in the passing game this year. IMO, this eliminates Rees from being the starting QB.

Have seen 3 ND practices and all the vid's.

IMO... Rees will likely start, with Hendrix not far behind.
Golson not gonna start at ND ever, might run a couple sets with him on GL if he can learn to hold on to the ball.
Kiel will RS.

Ya...i'm not a fan of it either.

yeah I know.. realistically, how many wins is everyone predicting next year if Rees is the starter? And Kiel? And Golson? And Hendrix? I just feel like if none of those predictions are above 10 and below 8, then why not start Kiel and begin the future and give him valuable experience? What's the difference between 10 and 8 wins, even in recruiting? Do you think our loaded "pre NSD" class last year stays in tact if we have 10 wins and not 8? I can't really say for sure, no one can, but I have my doubts.. anyone else care to share their opinion on this?

There was a point last year where Rees almost got yanked and you could see Golson putting his helmet on. The staff is high on Golson. However, the QB is the leader of the team. It sounds like Golson was having trouble adjusting and has been having turnover issues. If the staff thinks he's ready to lead and won't fumble he starts.

Can you imagine defending a play where Golson can either hand it off to Wood, pitch it to Riddick, throw to Eifert, or take off running? How do you defend that?

Sampson thinks the staff almost are pushing for Golson to start. He missed a meating that caused him to basically be suspended on Friday but he had his best practice as a ND player SAT. I just think by August he will understand that It's his for the taking and he will overtake Rees

Why did he miss the meeting?

Zbi mentioned about not having to watch the same stuff from last year if Rees were to get pulled. I have been thinking this for awhile.... everything I have read previously sounded like Rees had a slight lead. I have just been picturing the same thing that happened with Crist last year, Rees starts until a bad game and then gets pulled and move on. I think overall we win probably 8 games again, if we play well, get some breaks and don't turn it over or fumble inside the 5yrd line a bunch! then we could get 10wins tops being optimistic.

On another topic - planning on going to the Blue and Gold game this year for the first time. Will I have any problems getting tix day of the game?

Yeah, after next week we're gonna have to start racking up the recruits again so we have more to talk about. I feel spoiled after having all those commits a few weeks ago.

What makes you say this?

Watching/reading practice reports and post practice interviews. His interview just yesterday he takes about how he learns something new and still has room to improve. How can someone say that but be ready for more pages of the playbook?

Damn right you guys read he was 15 minutes late, I reported it. lol And has it not been obvious that the staff is setting the job up for Golson or at least someone other than Rees?

would seem kind of arrogant for him to say "I'm perfect" wouldn't it? lol.. think he's just being the type of guy who knows there's always room for improvement and always able to learn more.. you may be right though, who knows

no matter how you look at it, it's going to be a long a$$ summer worrying about who is going to be starting QB lol

If there is a God, it will be Golson.

Jarett Grace looked like an absolute beast in that practice video of yesterday. Looked like he plays with a killing instinct as well. Werewolf seems appropriate.

I understand what you are saying but watch the practice report from Friday. He makes a nice side step to avoid sack then continues to throw the ball away. After Martin asks him what the hell he is doing he says he thought he got sacked?!?! Doesn't sound like a kid who is being limited by the dumbing down of the offense.

ahh my apologies.. I thought you were talking about Golson because he was in the middle of the discussion.. went back and noticed a page or two back you were talking about Hendrix.. yeah I saw that video too, definitely a WTF moment.. hell, Martin went easy on him lol my high school coach would have me running stairs if I gave an excuse like that.. I'm with you on Hendrix though, no excuse for stuff like that
